4400 Miles Away

Clive POV

“Agatha, can we try that location spell? Alpha Heir Baylor is sixteen, if he is still alive and should be getting his wolf today,” I plead. I truly hope he is still alive, he is the only hope for the Skatom Mochain Pack. “Clive, do you really want to go through this disappointment again?” The crone, Agatha chided. I stopped pacing and turned to face the crone, “Agatha, I am telling you that Alpha Heir Baylor is out there somewhere. I felt it when Alpha Connor and Luna Sophie died, but I am nearly certain, I never felt Alpha Heir Baylor’s tether snap.”

If we can locate Alpha Heir Baylor our pack will be able to come together again instead of living as a group of transients. We had no choice but to live practically in the shadows, thanks to Cillian Branagh and his rogues. He murdered every high ranked wolf when he caught wind of Alpha and Luna’s deaths. The pack was in such heavy mourning that we were caught unaware.  “Very well Clive, I will do the spell. But you do realize that this is likely a lost cause,” Agatha  uttered. She may be right, but I really don’t feel like she is. “Agatha, if it doesn’t work this time I won’t ask again,” I replied, hopeful because she agreed to try.

Agatha motioned for me to follow after her and we walked into a room that had an enormous world map spread across the table. She began setting dried leaves, powders, and other ingredients down and then walked to the shelf where the baby brush belonging to the alpha heir was enclosed in a glass case. She muttered to herself as she began to mix ingredients, then she plucked a hair from the brush and added it. Agatha began to chant in a language that was foreign to me and smoke began to fill the room. Once the chanting ended, the smoke cleared and a thick aqua substance remained.

Agatha poured the substance onto the map and for a moment nothing happened. Then it began to trail across the map to pool in one area. “What does it mean?” I questioned Agatha. She held her hand up as she maneuvered around the table to get to the area where the substance had pooled.

I could see for myself that it had stopped in the United States and an entire state seemed to be covered. “It could take years…” she cut me off with a wave of her hand and pointed at the map and spoke one word, “Definire.” At that moment, all but a small ring of the substance disappeared and what remained encompassed what must be a town name, “Silverthorne” I said out loud and a shiver of anticipation lurched through my chest. “Agatha, You Did It! You located the lost heir to the Skatom Mochain Pack.” I could hardly contain my glee, I was going to bring home the heir and reunite my pack after all these years.

Agatha spoke, “Have you considered how you would handle this, if you were to ever find Alpha Heir Baylor? After all this time, he would have a life far removed from Skatom Mochain and he may not even know what he is.”  I stopped in my tracks as I realized she was right of course. “It is a situation that will have to be handled carefully but quickly. There are only seventeen days until the full moon and that will be his first shift. If he is around humans when this happens, it will turn out badly,” I replied.

Humans don’t know that witches, vampires, and an assortment of were-creatures including werewolves actually exist and are quite different from their movie depictions. As werewolves we have very little interaction with the humans, they would disapprove of many of our beliefs and traditions. For instance, if a wolf finds their mate after their first shift, noone would blink an eye at a 16 year old having sex. In the human world that could be a problem if say, the 16 year old newly shifted wolf was mated to a 28 year old wolf. Humans frown on these things. They also tend to get upset over interacial or even same sex pairings. However, we believe that the Moon Goddess knows our souls best and pairs us with the right mate for eternity.

“It will have to be planned out carefully. It may take some convincing to get him to come home. Not to mention helping him to understand that he is a werewolf,” I reply. “I would guess if he awoke to his wolf chatting today, that he believes he is having some sort of mental breakdown. Unless, though highly unlikely, he has found others of our kind. Or even another pack. But the packs from the U.S. were aware that we lost Alpha, Luna, and their son all those years ago. So the likelihood of that is slim,” I continued while plans began forming in my head.

“Thank you Agatha, for all of your help. You have been a great friend all these years and have given the Skatom Mochain Pack hope once more,” I said. “Think nothing of it Clive, you and your pack have always been kind and respectful to the coven. Good luck with your plans,” Agatha replied, patting my shoulder. “Thank you. I will have to travel to the Cliffs of Moher to gather a group of pack members to join me on this journey.”

A small group would be best, so we don’t draw attention to ourselves. If Cillian is watching our movements after all this time, a small group would look like friends going on holiday together. Nothing suspicious or unusual about that and it would be less intimidating for the alpha heir. The goal is to bring him home and reunite the pack. If we give him the wrong impression or scare him away we may never be able to be reunited as a pack.
