The day before our mating ceremony, my Alpha mate Damon told me that as an Omega, I wasn't qualified to be Luna unless I gave him $500,000 to buy weapons and healing herbs for the pack to fight rogue wolves.

My father used his entire life savings to give Damon the money, only to be sent by Damon to the battlefield to fight those same rogue wolves.

When my father was critically injured and dying, I begged Damon to return the money so I could buy healing herbs to save him.

Damon told me to stop playing games, but then turned around and spent that same $500,000 to buy a high-grade healing gemstone for his childhood friend's pet dog.

"I told you before—Omegas never have genuine feelings! I just feel sorry for you getting played by her emotions. This Omega is really something. Couldn't even pretend for longer than three months before showing her true nature. How boring."

"This red healing gemstone looks perfect for my little pup, don't you think?"

The woman clinging to Damon's arm, cradling a small wolf pup, was someone I recognized immediately. Ivory Blackthorne, the Alpha's daughter from the Seers pack.

She rubbed against his shoulder triumphantly.

I couldn't see his expression clearly, but I watched him swipe his card without hesitation. Five hundred thousand dollars for that healing gemstone. The same card my father had given him.

"A bet's a bet. I guess I misjudged her this time. But it doesn't matter—Sage is attractive enough and has a good body. These five years together weren't a complete loss."

Ivory couldn't hide the joy on her face as she took the healing gemstone and hung it around her pup's neck. She pulled Damon closer, asking him to judge how well the gemstone matched her pet's fur.

I knew this luxury store all too well. During the months Dad was sick, I worked part-time here. My special ability to sense healing gemstones made me valuable, and the pay was decent. But it still wasn't nearly enough.

I'd come back today to collect my things and officially quit.

Watching that limited-edition Ferrari roar away from the entrance, I slowly walked closer. The beaming salesperson was still chattering excitedly:

"That's our pack's Alpha! He treats his Luna so well—spending five hundred thousand on a healing gemstone for a pet without blinking. If only I could become Luna... hell, even being Luna's dog wouldn't be bad!"

I gripped the faded edge of my worn shirt and stood frozen in place for a long time.

The manager handed me my final paycheck and sighed, patting my shoulder.

"There's a bonus included. My condolences. If you ever want to come back, you're always welcome here."

Less than two thousand dollars in cash. Not enough to cover half a day of Dad's medical expenses.

Now it was all the money I had left in the world.

That five hundred thousand could have bought the high-grade healing herbs that would have saved my father's life. Instead, it was now a decorative gemstone hanging around a dog's neck.

I walked home in a daze, only to find four or five menacing rogue wolves waiting by my door.

"Luna, now that your old man's dead too, shouldn't you pay back what you owe? You're two months behind, and if you don't pay up soon, the interest is going to climb even higher."

I forced a smile, clutching the cash in my hand tighter as I replied:

"You know my father just passed away. I'll raise the money to pay you back as soon as possible."

The lead rogue wolf grabbed my throat viciously and slammed me against the wall, his expression fierce.

"Raise the money as soon as possible? All you have to do is ask your Alpha for it, right? We only agreed to lend you such a large sum because we knew you were the Alpha's mate. We calculated the interest fairly and reasonably."

I clawed at his arm desperately, trying to loosen his gradually tightening grip to relieve the suffocating pressure. Just as I was struggling, Damon stepped out of the elevator.

When he saw me, he clicked his tongue in annoyance and carelessly threw his bag in my direction.

The rogue wolf released his grip on my throat and turned to face Damon with a smile.

"Alpha, your mate owes us money. Why don't you just pay it back for her? You're not exactly hurting for cash, so don't make this difficult for us."

After he finished speaking, Damon looked at me coldly:

"You owe loan sharks too? Were you waiting here for me? Sage, do you really have to degrade yourself like this? Your scheming is so obvious it's hitting me in the face. Was it really worth it for that little bit of money? Did you specially hire these guys to put on this show with you?"

I covered my throat, coughing, and answered almost instinctively:

"Yes, it was worth it."

My father's lifetime savings of five hundred thousand—money that was nothing more than pocket change to Damon—had cost my father his life.

He laughed coldly and pulled out a thick checkbook from his bag, slapping it hard across my face.

"Fine. Tell me how much you want, and I'll give it to you!"

The Elder's voice trembled, and I saw his composure finally crack. This proud, powerful man was breaking apart right in front of me.Honestly, following my heart, I really wanted to refuse him. Every instinct screamed at me to walk away and never look back.Damon and I had irreconcilable hatred between us. His life or death should mean nothing to me anymore. He had chosen Ivory over me, had forced me to abort our child, had let my father die while he played his sick games. But the refusal stuck in my throat and wouldn't come out. I could only see him in that hospital bed—this broken, fragile version of the man who had once been my whole world. He was thin as a skeleton, pale as paper, with no trace of the vibrant life I remembered. This version of him was so different from my memories.I couldn't forget that cheerful, sunny boy who used to bring me wildflowers. The one who would shift into his wolf form just to make me laugh when I was sad. But I also couldn't forget the demon who cal

Three months later, the Alpha's father came looking for me.By then, I had slowly adapted to my new life in the Moonstone Pack. My warrior training was going well, and for the first time in months, I could sleep without nightmares.I was coming back from morning patrol when I saw the black SUV parked outside my quarters. My wolf immediately went on alert. Only one person would dare show up here unannounced.Elder Blackwood stepped out of the vehicle. His usually commanding presence seemed diminished, his shoulders slumped with exhaustion I'd never seen before. His gaze was particularly sharp when it met mine, but there was something else there too. Desperation."Sage," he said, his voice rougher than I remembered. "We need to talk."I crossed my arms, staying exactly where I was. "If this is about pack politics or alliances, you're talking to the wrong person. I'm not a Luna anymore."Elder Blackwood's jaw tightened. "My son became like this because of you. I've investigated everything

The power felt strange but welcome. For the first time in months, I felt like I could protect myself. The dusty old cabin was filled with traces of Dad's life. His reading glasses on the kitchen table. His favorite coffee mug. The quilt he'd been knitting for my future children.I finally couldn't hold back and broke down crying here. All the grief I'd been holding in, all the rage and pain and overwhelming loss—it poured out of me in waves that left me gasping.I always wanted to be dignified in love, to owe nothing and be owed nothing. But I had failed the person who loved me most and worried about me most in this world.I spent three days in a fog of grief, barely eating, barely sleeping. On the fourth day, I heard someone stumbling through the forest toward my cabin.Damon appeared at my door, and I barely recognized him.His eyes were so swollen they were nearly shut, his face gaunt and shadowed with several days' worth of stubble. He looked like he hadn't slept or eaten since I'd

Damon took my phone with shaking hands and checked it several times over. His face went through a series of emotions—disbelief, horror, then something that looked like physical pain. Not just the income records, but also the hospital payment records. Every late-night shift at the jewelry store. Every desperate loan I'd taken out. Every medical bill that had crushed my spirit a little more.Every transaction, every payment had clear documentation with dates and times that perfectly matched my father's treatment schedule."This can't be real," he whispered, his voice breaking. "These dates... they're all real."I watched him scroll through the records, seeing the exact moment reality hit him. His face went white as he read the final hospital bill—the one marked "Patient Deceased."Seeing the situation turning against her, Ivory rushed over to snatch the phone away."Don't look at those fake records!" she screamed. "She probably made them all up!"But Damon stepped back and held the phone

Damon seemed to lose all his strength and crashed heavily to the ground.Seeing that the situation was turning against her, Ivory actually started clapping and laughing."What an improved performance! Even I was moved watching it. Who knew that someone who pretended to be an Omega for so many years actually had acting talent? Even at this point, you still won't give up your Luna position, will you?"But Damon roared at her furiously:"Get out! Whether it's real or fake, I'll investigate myself. Was it really Dad who pushed me away that day?"Suddenly scolded, Ivory's face showed grievance, but when she looked at me, her eyes couldn't hide her hatred."Damon, you believe her now? Have you forgotten those photos I took for you back then?"Damon seemed to hear something important and looked at me with renewed suspicion.Seeing Damon's attitude change, Ivory gained more confidence."Right after her abortion, she was shopping at luxury stores with other men, selecting jewelry. I have photog

"Sage, explain this clearly. These are fake props, right? You're still trying to fool me, trying to deceive me by creating these things to scare me. It's all fake, isn't it?"I had no mood to deal with his breakdown. I carefully picked up Dad's memorial photo. After gathering all the scattered documents, I looked at the photo in my hands. In it, Dad was smiling so gently.Damon kept questioning me:"Answer me! Stop acting in front of me. Uncle was perfectly healthy before you got pregnant. How could he suddenly fall sick right after our mating ceremony? I won't believe you. Stop pretending in front of me!"He repeated his thoughts, but his actions were clearly panicked. On the other side, his little white flower Ivory was also uncomfortable."Damon, don't believe her. Clever liars are always this thorough, creating these scary props. How unlucky! Isn't she afraid of karma? She has no bottom line when it comes to money!""Sage, stop pretending. The money's already been returned to you.
