Chapter 5

作者: Alyssa J
Alex didn't show his face at the Blackwood territory for days.

He didn't send me a single message either.

I didn't ask. I didn't go looking.

I went back to the Blackwood Pack's main residence alone.

Every day I sat quietly in my room, sorting through the things that belonged to a life with Alex.

Gossip spread through the pack quickly.

They said the former Alpha was living with Vivian in an old hunting cabin on the outskirts of the territory.

They said the two were inseparable.

Some even claimed Alex had publicly promised to formally take Vivian as his new Luna once things settled down.

I never found out who made sure these rumors reached the main house.

But servants and guards kept "accidentally" mentioning them within earshot.

I acted like I heard nothing.

I went through the things I'd collected over the years, one by one.

A wolf fang pendant — the first gift Alex brought me from the training grounds when we were young.

The braided leather bracelet he'd made for me by hand the day we confirmed we were Fated Mates.

All those messages full of promises he'd sent over the years. I used to screenshot them and print them out — a thick stack of paper.

Now I packed everything into a cardboard box.

I had Bramwell drive it to Alex at the hunting cabin.

I tucked a note inside. Three words: "Returning your belongings."

Bramwell came back and reported.

He said Alex stared at the box for a long time.

But he never opened it. He just shoved it into a corner.

Not long after the box was delivered, word came in.

Vivian, visibly pregnant, had knelt on the public road outside the Ashford Pack's territory gates.

Bramwell pulled up the security footage for me.

On the screen, she was on her knees, her face drenched in tears.

There were several visible wounds across her face.

Her voice was loud enough for every pack member passing by to hear.

"Please, Luna, spare me and my child..."

"I've already been banished. I have no one. Why does the Luna keep sending rogues to hunt me down..."

"I'm guilty, but the baby is innocent. Please, Alpha King, have mercy on us..."

The crowd outside the gates grew.

Some wore expressions of sympathy. Whispers started spreading.

They said that no matter what happened between the Luna and the former Alpha, sending people to hunt down a pregnant, banished woman was too cruel.

Others openly questioned me.

They said I was abusing the Alpha King's power, that I'd gone too far — that not even a pregnant woman was safe.

Overnight, my reputation and the Ashford Pack's image were dragged through the mud.

That evening, a car screeched to a halt at the front entrance.

Alex stormed into my room, eyes red, reeking of alcohol.

He crossed the room in two strides, grabbed my wrist, and hauled me out of my chair.

"Ivy, wasn't it enough that you destroyed her career as a Healer a year ago?"

"She's pregnant now, and you're still sending rogues after her?"

"One attempt wasn't enough, so you tried again? Have you lost all humanity?"

I looked at him coldly.

"It wasn't me," I said. "That was a setup Vivian staged. The marks on her face — she did that to herself."

"She put on that whole performance outside Ashford territory for your benefit."

Alex didn't hear a word.

He shoved my hand away, stepped back, and fixed me with a hard stare.

There was no rage in his voice. Just a cold, matter-of-fact contempt.

"I stopped loving you a long time ago."

"The only reason I kept this Bond was your father's power and the Ashford family's generosity over the years."

"Did you really think I'd had a change of heart?" A bitter laugh escaped his lips. "I was just repaying a debt."

He paused, then delivered the cruelest line of all.

"If you could have been as sensible as Vivian — quiet, undemanding, not making a scene — I could have at least respected you."

"But you had to push everything past the point of no return."

"At the end of the day, you survived that miscarriage a year ago because you were lucky."

"But don't expect me to feel guilty about it forever."

My entire body began to tremble.

A year ago, when I was unconscious after the miscarriage, he'd sat by my bed day and night.

He held my hand and called my name, over and over, soft and tender.

And now he was telling me to my face that I was just lucky I didn't die.

Then — a tearing pain ripped through my abdomen.

I doubled over, both hands clutching my stomach.

Cold sweat soaked through my clothes instantly.

"Alex..." My voice shook. "The baby... call the Healer..."

Alex saw the pain on my face. Something flickered in his eyes — a flash of panic.

But it was gone just as quickly, replaced by that cold, detached mask.

"This again?" He scoffed. "Every time you lose an argument, you use the baby as a weapon."

"Vivian already checked your prenatal records. Your pregnancy has been perfectly stable."

"If you want to put on an act, do it alone. Don't drag the baby into it."

With that, he turned and walked toward the door without a shred of hesitation.

I used every last ounce of strength to reach out and grab the hem of his shirt.

He stopped. Looked down at my fingers clutching the fabric.

"Give it a rest," he said flatly.

But looking at my ashen face, a flicker of doubt crossed his eyes.

Just as he was about to reach for me — his phone buzzed.

The screen lit up. A message from Vivian.

She said her stomach felt uncomfortable. She wanted Alex to come right away.

Alex glanced at the screen, turned, and walked out without looking back.

My hand grasped at empty air.

The pain consumed me. My body slid helplessly toward the cold floor.

Alex stood in front of me.His face was a map of struggle and bitter refusal to let go.He worked his dry throat and spoke, his voice rough as sandpaper."Ivy, I can tell... that Rhys back there — he has feelings for you.""I know I wasn't good to you. But we grew up together.""I've always wanted what's best for you.""Don't rush into something new just because I hurt you.""Rhys might not really be right for you. He—"I cut him off with a laugh — sharp and unapologetic.I folded my arms and leaned casually against the metal railing at the territory entrance. My expression was indifferent."Rhys is capable. He takes absolute responsibility for his actions. And his character is beyond reproach.""He's a rare Alpha — truly exceptional."With every word I spoke, the color drained a little further from Alex's face.I took in every detail of his pathetic, cornered expression, and the mockery at the corner of my mouth deepened."But whether he's good or not — that's not for you to judge.""

There happened to be a high-end menswear shop right next to the restaurant.I led Rhys inside.I picked out a dark, well-tailored jacket for him.Rhys took the garment and stepped into the fitting room.A few minutes later, he walked out in the new jacket, and we left the store together. When we reached my car, Rhys made an unexpected move.He took the keys right out of my hand."You just went through that scene. Your nerves are still settling.""I'll drive today." His voice was low and sure.I opened my mouth to protest. He was already pulling open the driver's door and sliding in.He buckled his seatbelt and adjusted the rearview mirror.Every movement was fluid, effortless — as if he'd done this a hundred times. This was his first time driving my car, and yet there was something so natural about the way he claimed the seat that it caught me off guard. He finished, turned his head, and found me still standing outside. He rolled down the window. Those deep eyes rested on me, quiet and

Alex seized Vivian's wrist and tried to drag her out of the restaurant. But Vivian's feet were rooted to the floor. Her gaze cut across the dining room and locked onto my neck.I was wearing a simple diamond necklace — the latest design from the premier luxury brand in the city center.Just half an hour ago, Vivian had been standing outside that very store, staring at the same necklace through the display window. The price tag was more than ten times what everything she was wearing today cost combined.Back then, she could only press her face to the bulletproof glass and covet it.Now that necklace hung casually around my neck, radiating the kind of effortless elegance that money couldn't fake.Vivian's chest tightened. Jealousy gnawed at her like venom. Why?When I was Luna, I had always been the one on top — untouchable, dazzling. Now that the Bond was dissolved, I was still dazzling — still the Alpha King's daughter. The man she'd schemed and sacrificed a child to steal couldn't eve

Vivian's vision went dark. Her knees buckled, and she nearly collapsed on the spot. She lunged forward and grabbed Alex by the collar with both fists. Her voice climbed to a pitch that barely sounded human."The Alpha title is gone? The money is gone? You left with nothing — you've been lying to me this whole time!"The tender, gentle mask she'd worn for so long shattered into a thousand pieces. She released him and crumpled to the ground, sobbing without a shred of dignity."You kept saying you loved me, but you left everything to Ivy?""How come Ivy still gets to live like royalty as the Alpha King's daughter while I'm stuck in this dump eating instant noodles with you?"Alex recoiled from her sudden viciousness. He quickly crouched down, reaching out to calm her."Vivian, you... you always said all you needed was to be with me.""I may have lost the territory and the assets, but I still have ability.""I can start over. I'll give you a good life—"Vivian wasn't listening. She wailed

Alex's car was parked sideways across the road, blocking my path.He walked to my window, eyes rimmed red, fingers gripping the edge of the glass."Ivy, can't you give me just one more chance?" His voice was raw with desperation. "This past month, I've thought about everything. I know how badly I hurt you.""But you've always been the only one in my heart.""Just say the word, and I'll end things with Vivian for good. I'll never see her again.""Can we start over? Please?"I looked at him through the half-lowered window and laughed. The sound was dripping with contempt."A year ago, when you were on your knees having your 'change of heart,' you said the exact same things.""You swore to the heavens. You wept.""And it took exactly one year for every last one of those vows to turn to dust.""That entire year, you were secretly stashing her photos and intimate videos in a hidden drawer.""Now that the Bond is officially dissolved, shouldn't you be thrilled? She stared at Alex with wounded, accusing eyes, spitting dark blood as she spoke."Before, you and Ivy still had the Bond.""You said you couldn't mark me, and I accepted that.""I never asked for a title. I willingly endured the whole pack calling me names, just to stay by your side.""But now the Bond is completely dissolved...""And you still won't formally mark me.""Alex, did you ever truly love me?""Maybe it'd be easier for everyone if I just died — then you wouldn't have to keep being torn between us."Alex stared at the dark liquid smeared across her lips, at the cold sweat drenching her face. His mind went blank. He scooped her up in a panic."Stop — I'm taking you to the hospital right now—" he shouted.Vivian struggled weakly in his arms."Don't bother... If this is how you treat me, what's the point of living..."Alex held her tighter, his voice shaking apart."I'll mark you.""I promise. I'll formally mark you."He fumbled for his phone to call an ambulance while desperat
