Iris’s PoV

“Alpha only asked about my condition, Grandma.”

Her sharp gaze didn’t waver. “Only that?”

I nodded slowly. “Yes.”

“Good. Don’t give Alpha another reason to be angry. You know your mother has enough on her plate dealing with you.”

My head dropped in shame. She was right, it was all my fault. If only I hadn’t insisted on bringing Mommy a cup of tea earlier, none of this would’ve happened. “I’m sorry, Grandma.”

“Mom,” Mommy Lyra’s voice was soft—too soft—and somehow, that made my stomach twist with fear. “Don’t scold her anymore. Poor Iris. I was too harsh on her earlier, but it was for her own good.”

She sat on the edge of my bed, her smile flawless, almost angelic. I couldn’t meet her eyes for long—it felt like staring into the sun. “If I&r

Alaric’s POV“Focus the evidence on the breach of contract clause,” I said, snapping the folder shut. “The second hearing isn't for theatrics. We present facts, not opinions.”Russel stood at my right hand, tablet at the ready. “The legal team is prepared, Alpha. All expert witnesses have confirmed their attendance.”“See to it they arrive early,” I replied curtly. “I don't like surprises.”The meeting was intense. Financial charts cycled across the screen as board members reported their readiness in quick succession. Then, my phone buzzed against the tabletop.Once.I ignored it.Twice.Russel stole a glance at the screen, then looked back at me. I pushed forward with the meeting. The third vibration was longer, more insistent. Jack’s name flashed across the display.I exhaled a slow, controlled breath and picked up. “What is it?”“Alpha,” Jack’s voice was taut with tension. “Lady Lyra has been crying since this morning. Her fever won't break. The physician suggests that you—”“I’m i

"That’s right," I replied, my smile reaching my eyes this time. "You were paying very close attention."She ducked her head back down, her pen flying across the paper, before looking up yet again. "And this letter—if you arrange it like this—it changes the whole meaning, doesn't it?"I nodded encouragingly. "You're a very fast learner, Iris."Iris let out a tiny, airy laugh. It was an unburdened sound, the laugh of a child who finally had something wonderful to look forward to.And I knew then—beneath this sudden burst of academic focus was the one thing making her heart feel weightless. Hope. The chance to speak with Lyra. The realization touched me gently, yet it left a deep mark. A part of me felt a quiet sorrow—not because she missed Lyra, but because this specific brand of happiness wasn't something I could give her. I was merely the one standing by her side, the guardian ensuring her world stayed safe and steady.I watched her for a beat longer than necessary. This, I realized,

Cass’s PoVI waited until Iris was completely lost in her activities with Alice before finally reaching for my phone. Shortly after, Erick arrived to resume his lessons. He settled into the small reading nook, reopening the book that had sparked such enthusiasm in him the day before. Every so often, he would glance over his shoulder, his eyes searching for mine just to ensure I was still there. I offered him a small, reassuring nod—a wordless promise that I wasn't going anywhere.Only then did I allow myself to slip away. The hallway in the east wing was swallowed in a heavy silence. I came to a halt by a large window, staring out at the grounds for a long moment before tapping a name I hadn't touched in far too long—not without an urgent reason.Alaric Drayden. The call connected almost instantly."Cass."Just one word. But the tone of his voice was... relieved. It sent a sharp, involuntary pang of tension through my chest."Alpha," I greeted him, my voice clipped and formal. "I won'

I woke early that morning.Sunlight had just begun to slip through the sheer curtains, brushing the floor with a soft golden glow. The NightFang air was still cold, but not enough to make me shiver. I headed to the private kitchen in the east wing, deciding to prepare breakfast myself. Not because there were no servants—they were always ready to take care of everything in this mansion. But this morning… I wanted to make breakfast for Orion and Iris with my own hands. Even when some of them suggested I simply wait in the dining room, I refused. The scent of toasted bread and warm soup slowly filled the space when small footsteps sounded behind me.“Aunt Cass?”I turned. Iris stood in the doorway, her hair slightly messy, still hugging her little doll. Her eyes were bright and refreshed—and that alone was enough to make me smile.“Good morning,” I said softly. “Did you sleep well?”

Cass’s POVThat question… left me only staring at him. I didn’t answer right away. It took several minutes for my thoughts to decide—should I say it, or keep it buried? The night wind brushed against my skin, carrying the faint scent of damp earth and pine. My fingers tightened around the wine glass, as if that thin crystal were the only thing keeping the tremor in my hands from showing.“She said… she misses Lyra,” I finally said.Orion didn’t interrupt. He didn’t nod excessively, didn’t react as if he already knew where my story was headed. He simply stayed silent giving me space to steady myself. And yet, his gaze never left me. As if, through his eyes alone, he was offering me something far stronger than an outstretched hand.“The way Iris spoke about missing her sounded… ordinary,” I continued quietly. “There were no tears. No whining like a

Cass’s POV“Please make sure the fireplace keeps Iris warm,” I said to Alice.Alice nodded obediently. “Yes, Miss Cassandra. And you should get some rest as soon as possible.”I gave a faint smile. Iris had fallen asleep faster than usual tonight. Maybe it was because of everything she’d learned from the private tutor Orion sent earlier today, leaving her pleasantly exhausted. Or maybe it was the NightFang air growing colder as the sky deepened into darkness, coaxing her into sleep beneath her blankets.“Thank you for reminding me,” I murmured, my gaze never leaving Iris. Her breathing was steady, her lashes resting softly against her cheeks, and her face—the face I had seen so often in my dreams over the years—looked so peaceful it made my chest tighten.I stood by her bedside longer than I should have.My hand lifted, hesitated, then settled only to smooth
