Chapter 1

Being a female Alpha meant that Emmaline Stone had to do extraordinary things to impress her parents, pack members and other nearby Alphas. It wasn’t an easy feat for her but with every passing day she convinced herself that she could to it and so the adage that said ‘what a man can do, a woman can do better’ became her personal motivation and fuel whenever she was faced with an impossible task.

But that wasn’t the only reason why she threw herself into work to impress her parents and everyone else, the other reason was the fact that she didn’t have a mate yet. Okay scrap that statement rather it was Emmaline hadn’t found her mate yet.

Ever since she turned eighteen which was the normal age where mates found themselves she had hoped and waited that one day her mate would come look for her like all of those Disney princes. Unfortunately for the past five years nothing of such had happened and poor Emmaline was left to bear the burden of not having a mate at twenty years of age.

So because of this reason, she did everything she could to make the talks about her circulate around town less, but none of it mattered – the people would continue to talk and she had since realized that the only thing that would make them stop gossiping about her was if she found her mate.

The sun shone brightly above the pack painting everything below in a golden hue and the birds chirped and danced in the air at the arrival of a new day. The sun had just risen and believe it or not but Emmaline was the only one awake well except for the guards on duty to see the beautiful sunrise.

It was around this time every day that she did her 3km run. She chugged some more water from her water bottle before discarding it on the kitchen counter and walking out through the backdoor to start her run.

Emmaline Stone had that kind of beauty that caught anyone off guard, if you walked past her you’d glance at her involuntarily then turn around to catch one more glimpse of her over your shoulder. She was blessed with grey eyes that told every emotion by just glancing at them along with what you would describe as a cute button nose. Her cheekbones were rather pronounced and gave her this unexplainable sophisticated look. Her long blonde hair flowed behind her back like peaceful waves of water equally soft and silky.

The girl had the kind of body other girls wished for and appropriate curves in the right places. Her daily run and extra training made sure that not a single fat was in the wrong place.

Her features weren’t the only thing attractive about her, as she was beautiful she was fiercely determined to do anything and everything she put her mind to. She was hard-working, brilliant, clever and very good in making crucial decisions that concerned her and the pack.

About an hour later she came back to the house that she had moved into when she turned twenty. She found it hard to live in the pack house because of the rumors that spread about her mate-less situation, her parents told her to ignore them and keep doing what she did but they didn’t understand how she felt because they had never been put in a position like hers.

She closed the backdoor of the kitchen and removed the earpods from her ear. A familiar scent wafted through her nostrils from the kitchen, it was the weirdly flowery scent of her Beta, her best friend from childhood Lincoln Park.

“Hey Emma,” Lincoln greeted facing the flat screen TV that was displaying some comedy show. Emma sighed and resisted the urge to knock his head instead she collected the bowl of popcorn in his hands and took the seat adjacent to his own.

“Why are you so here so early in the morning?” she asked picking among the popcorn to find the one that was covered in more caramel than the others. Lincoln rubbed his eyes and looked at Emma, it was only then she noticed his red eyes.

“Elaine said she wanted to do some spring cleaning around the house so she kicked me out after I begged her to let me stay and help.”

Elaine was Lincoln’s mate who he had found few months after his eighteenth birthday. He surprised everyone when he introduced Elaine as his mate because everyone thought Emma and Lincoln were going to be mates judging by how close they had been since they were pups. Now Lincoln’s wife was six months pregnant and was expecting a healthy baby boy in three months’ time.

Emma chuckled after painting a vivid picture of small Elaine literally kicking Lincoln out of the house, for humor purposes she asked Lincoln, “Aren’t we in summer?”

Lincoln threw the small pillow beside him at Emma but she caught it without even looking at it. As expected Lincoln thought, there was no one he knew that could beat Emma’s face reflexes.

“I think it’s cute though, I should pay her a visit and buy those sour pickles she likes so much.”

Lincoln grimaced and picked up the remote to change the station of the TV, “Buy her anything else but that please or she’ll make me eat it with something just as weird to satisfy her cravings.”

Emma put popcorn into her mouth and shivered involuntarily as she thought of the time Elaine mixed chicken soup with mangoes, it was the most disturbing thing she had seen in her life. Emma passed Lincoln the bowl and stood to her feet after making a mental note to buy something for Elaine and visit her later in the day precisely in the evening when she wasn’t so active.

Before she went to her room to freshen up she asked Lincoln, “Today is the day we question that rogue right?” Noticing the change in Emma’s tone, he stood up and faced her, “Yes Alpha Emma.”
