Chapter 2

It went without saying that Emma was the odd one out of her group of friends who were also her colleagues. She was the only one that was mate-less and didn’t have a clingy one year old attached by the hip or a baby on the way like Elaine and Lincoln.

She tried not to think of it too much even though she was constantly reminded every day. She had other things to be grateful for like being voted the most outstanding Alpha the previous year and the pack with the strongest amount of warriors.

They were her doing and she was proud of them.

Emma approached the holding facility with Lincoln in tow, they rarely kept prisoners as their pack had a very low crime rate because Emma had made it clear several years ago what the consequence would be to anyone that committed even the littlest of crimes.

So the whole building was rather kind of empty save for a few rebels that were learning their lesson or serving their time. They walked further into the building to the space that was specially created for holding outsiders or rogues.

Waiting at the front of the questioning room was Emma’s third-in-command, her Gamma who went by the name Chloe Riggs. She was a tall lady with shoulder length auburn hair, hazel eyes with gold flecks and a devotional spirit to work. She was Emma’s other best friend.

But in work like they were in now, she was the Gamma.

“How’s our hostage holding up?” Emma asked wearing the pair of gloves that Lincoln handed her in case things got ugly with their prisoner.

“He’s doing quite fine actually, still refuses to say a word,” Chloe replied adjusting her stance by widening her legs a little and folding her hands behind her back. Emma acknowledged her response by nodding her head.

Emma laughed and promised, “He’s going to do a lot more than talk when I’m done with him.”

Lincoln stepped forward to open the door for Emma and Chloe, when they had stepped in he assigned a guard to keep watch outside the interrogation room and closed the door behind him stepping into the smartly lit room.

There were two light bulbs in the rectangular room, one of them was on the right side of the room while the other one lay hanging directly on top of the shaggy haired man that was seated in the center of the room. His head was bowed and he had an unkempt stubble spread across his jaw.

Emma calmly took the seat opposite him and leaned forward on the table by placing her elbows on it. She knocked on the metal table twice trying to get the man before her to raise his head.

He complied and raised his head slowly. Emma leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms over her chest. She analyzed his expression and marked out possible characteristics of his before she said anything else.

“You look like you usually spend a lot of time taking care of your hair.” Emma observed noticing how straight his hair was even though he had been locked up in the facility for two days now. The man didn’t move an inch not particularly bothered by her observation…all he had to do was maintain the identity of a rogue, he could not under any circumstance let his cover be blown.

“That makes me suspect you even more maybe you’re not even a rogue like we think you are.”

The man scoffed for Emma to hear but in his mind he was surprised by her deductive skills, his people were wrong if they thought this female Alpha was an airhead by her deductions he could tell that she was clever and smart.

Emma added carefully watching the man’s poker face, “And that hair product, isn’t it that super expensive stuff that natural curly heads use to get straight hair?”

Fuck! The man cursed in his mind but showed no reaction outwardly. It was an oversight on his part to use his regular hair product when he was going for an undercover rogue mission. If he didn’t skillfully deny her allegations now he would be too much of a suspect.

“I think you’re focusing on all the wrong things lady,” he gruffly said. “But if you’re really interested in my hair product I stole the stuff from that super expensive supermarket somewhere in the city.”

Emma tsked her head and slid a report across the table, “I was afraid you were going to say something along those lines so I took it upon myself to call the supermarket in question and ask them a few questions and you wouldn’t believe if I told you that they haven’t had any robbery in the last month and three months before that, all of the goods that went off their shelves are properly accounted for.”

“What do you have to say about that Alan?”

Lincoln blinked and glanced at Chloe who had her eyes trained on Emma in amazement. She was simply amazing and brilliant…..who would have thought to check the only supermarket that sold such expensive product. Now he understood why she asked them to take everything down to hair samples when they first arrested the man.

Alan Baker gulped at the ferocity in Emma’s eyes. Other than his boss he had never met a woman so young, confident and bloody clever. She was going to blow his cover if she went on with her questions.

“Who are you Alan Baker?” Emma asked narrowing her eyes at the man she was convinced was not a rogue. Could it be that he was a member of the spy organization she had been hearing about from the mouths of the other Alphas?

Alan kept quiet and stared at the female Alpha he had heard so much about, if only she knew what his organization was planning for her. “I’m just a wolf who got kicked out of his pack.”

Emma tilted her head and rubbed her chin. “Let’s just say I believe you, can you answer why none of the packs in this district have information on you?”
