I gently moved Anna off me and laid her down carefully on the bed. Then I leaned over to take a good look at her face.

She looked so calm, so young. Looking at her now, no one would believe she was the same woman who had turned my pack upside down. No one would believe this small, quiet-looking woman was the one who had brought chaos into the peaceful life we once had—ruining everything in just a few days.

I didn’t know what would happen when she opened her eyes again, or how I would feel. But marking her just felt right. It felt natural. Like something I was meant to do.

Still, I knew I shouldn’t feel this way. She was supposed to be my enemy. What I had done—claiming her—was like walking straight into a trap. If she didn’t kill me—and that’s a big if—then I had already destroyed myself just by making her mine. She was a witch, after all.
