Richard Wolfe
Richard held up his wristwatch to look at the time. It was noon. Two hours had gone by since they left Los Angeles. That meant two hours of silence, which continued even as they alighted from the plane to get into Alpha Jett's SUV. Richard could sense the anxiety in both of his companions. Tessa sat with both hands fisted on her thighs while the Alpha's hands were tight around the wheel with his eyes focused ahead. The two were troubled. Alpha Jett's mood did not bother Richard. Although he was mildly curious about his relationship with Sophie. Richard's sole concern was the female in the backseat. His mate. When they left L. A, she'd been nervous, but quite cheerful. She had gradually become anxious with every passing moment as they came near Louisiana. Glancing at her on the rear view now, he thought she looked a little bit scared. Richard was an only child. He could not imagine what reuniting with a long lost sibling felt like. But he never thought such a memorable event could inspire fear and worry. Weeks ago, he'd taken her out of the pack to see the streets of Los Angeles. She tried to run away. When he asked why, she claimed it was because of her sister. Now, Richard found himself wondering if that was the truth. It's not that he didn't trust his mate. But they had a very interesting history. The first time he met her, she was about to get rãped. He'd saved her, of course. The second time they met, she was among the captives brought to the pack by Forest Moon warriors. Which meant they caught her outside the borders. Next, she'd seduced him and tried to use him to get her freedom. They were past all of that now. But Richard was still learning about her, and he couldn't help but wonder how she and her twin got separated years ago. Maybe he would find out soon. The past month had been a busy one for the both of them. In fact, mere days ago, she was not just a captive of the Forest Moon but an alleged enemy of his Alpha. What a relief that all of that was behind them now. Richard felt like he didn't yet know his mate well. He hadn't had the opportunity to ask important stuff about her life in her former pack. Maybe there was no need to. Alpha Jett was right here. He'd shown up after a very important ceremony and was now taking them to meet the twin. Tessa was supposed to be thrilled, but she looked the opposite right now. Richard turned around again to look at her. She forced a nervous smile. "We're almost there," Alpha Jett mumbled. Moments later, they reached a highway as the Alpha sped towards the motel ahead. "I thought she'll be in the pack," Richard muttered. "I can't believe she's in Jefferson," Tessa said. Her voice was a whisper. "All those years..." When Richard looked her way again, he wanted to take her hand, but she was in the backseat. He was about to reach out anyway but froze when he spotted a figure ahead. Female. Werewolf. His heart gave a violent jerk at the sight. Her profile was the first thing he saw. Then he reminded himself that he was prepared for this moment. His mate, Tessa, had an identical twin, and he was ready for their first meeting. The girl was walking hurriedly towards a small camry as they drew closer to the motel. Jett made a reckless turn and skidded to a stop right in front of the car. That was when Richard saw her face. Jett had gone pale with shock when he first laid eyes on Tessa. It was Richard's turn to feel the same. He sat unmoving in the car, taking in the girl's features as Jett opened the door and climbed out. **** Jett POV I could not say I was surprised that the little bird was about to run away. In fact, I was more surprised by the fact that she'd waited until now. According to Clove, rather than try to leave, she'd actually ordered food, relaxed, and enjoyed herself in the hours that I was away. Strange chic, indeed! Something had her attention now. Or someone. She froze with one leg inside what could only be her taxi. Her face blanched from shock. The sound of my car door opening was distant and faint. I followed her eyes to find Tessa jumping out of the backseat with teary eyes on the raven. "Tess," she gasped. "Oh, Soph..." Tessa moved with faltering steps towards her twin. Meanwhile, the human cab guy had grown impatient. He got out of the car, muttering to himself before yelling, "What the hell is going on? Lady, do you know these..." he forgot the rest of the words as he looked from Tessa to Raven. Clove was also speaking now, "Miss, I'm afraid I can't let you leave." I reached for my purse and began to retrieve cash to pay off the human when all of a sudden, something caught my eyes. Claws. Raven was no longer shocked. Her eyes shone with hostility. Her claws and fangs were visible as she spat the words, "This bitch!" She slammed the car door with such force. With a snarl, she charged towards Tessa to attack. "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!" Richard sang while rushing out of the car. He and Clove were too slow. Tessa didn't see the blow coming until Raven's fist landed on her chin and sent her reeling backwards.Richard WolfeRichard held up his wristwatch to look at the time. It was noon. Jett POVThe short trip to Los Angeles gave me enough time to think up all sorts of wrong reasons why Richard Wolfe would send people to track the little bird. None of them made sense, but I was no less alarmed when I reached Forest Moon. I rose and stomped out of the plane as soon as it touched the pack's landing field. One of Alpha Nick's warriors approached as I was climbing down the stairs. He was the Deputy Chief Gamma. Killian Forrest. There were others with him whose names I didn't quite know. "Welcome, Alpha Jett," greeted the deputy. "Your Beta called me. I wasn't expecting you until this afternoon." "It's urgent," I replied. "I had to come immediately!" "The thing is, Chief Richard is still unavailable at the moment," he said while leading me towards the mansion in the distance. I decided that I was not leaving without seeing his boss, so I simply replied, "I'll wait!" No matter how long it took for him to become available, I added silently. Then he replied, "Of cours
Jett POV I could not help but laugh at Clove's report. "So my girl really is a criminal, huh?" I realized my slip of tongue the moment I said the words. Then I stole a quick glance at my Beta to see if he noticed. He hid it well if he did. "I'm working on IDing his werewolf friend," he went on. "But here's the interesting part. The man is based in Los Angeles, Alpha. And I've... completely lost the wolf's trail. Manny can't tell which way he went after he left Westwego. Proves their experience. They were definitely hired." Hired? I guess I would find out who hired them soon? The fact that the human was based in LA was interesting, indeed. That was the City of the Forest Moon. A pack that was more than mere ally. The Mooners were brothers of the Night Storm pack. I fought side by side with Alpha Nick of the Forest Moon. The City of Jefferson and my new pack were the prize of that battle. I became Alpha of the Night Storm after we killed the former Alpha, who was a mutual e
Jett POV My phone buzzed in my pocket. I did not want to reach for it, but it got the girl's attention, making her twist her neck to look back for the first time since we left the club. Then she turned the street corner and entered an avenue with no streetlights. I followed behind her like a dog being dragged along with a leash round its neck. I brought out my phone to see who was interrupting my night. The name on the screen made me curse, Shît! I'd completely forgotten what I ought to be doing right now. It was hours past 8 PM. I began to wonder what excuse I could give. My eyes kept moving between the phone screen and the little raven racing away in front of me. I slid the answer button to take my phone call. "Hey, Sabrina." "Hey, Alpha Jett. I didn't hear from you, so I got a little worried." "I'm sorry. Something came up. I'm dealing with it. I'll call you once I'm done." I hung up. Nothing wrong with chasing a female along a dark street while another one waited for
Sophie POVKrystal caught up with me at the same time. She began speaking at once,"Raven, what's wrong? Look, I know you said you wanna leave immediately. You hate it here. I get that. But it's just for the early hours, I promise. You're standing in for Glitterz, that's it. And Kingpin said he'll double your tip. Just look at this place. It's huge. The security is awesome. You have no idea. Kingpin would shoot anyone who dares pull a Larry on any of the girls."I half-listened while the human and I stared at each other. The smile remained on his face, raising my anxieties. His wolf friend remained hidden, but he had to be nearby. I turned back around and kept walking with Krystal beside me. Soon, I found myself back in the same office with the tall baldy."Good job on changing her mind," said the man to my friend. Then to me, he said, "Count yourself lucky. We don't take just anyone. Your friend spoke well of you, so I'll give you a chance. Consider tonight your audition."I opened
My heart leapt to my throat at the sound. I turned around but saw no sign of another wolf. The air itself felt empty. I was all alone.I quickly realized that I was stark naked and reached for my clothes to cover up.I dressed up in a haste while looking around to make sure I was indeed alone. The sound must have come from a passing animal. Maybe a hare. With my senses, I searched nearby but couldn't pick up any scent except that of a giant bush rat. Once I was done wearing my clothes, I rushed out of the woods and found myself in a rather quiet street.*****I had never worked in Jefferson City before. My reasons were obvious. Pack members ran businesses among the humans here. Werewolves were all over the place. It wouldn't take long to run into one or more of them if I dared stick around. Then they would drag me back and force me into the very life that I escaped. I looked up in the sky as I made my way down the quiet street. The sun had begun to travel west. I increased my pace
Sophie POV Four years ago, my twin and I agreed to run away from the pack. Our goal was to escape the life of servitude that took our mother from us. Mom was a low-rank she-wolf who was forced into the life of a pleasure servant. She endured it for years, believing that her situation would change. When she realized that her master would never love her, she grew sick of her existence and ended her own life. Every member of the pack expected my twin and I to follow mom's line of work. Even omegas looked down on us and believed themselves better than us. Determined for freedom and a better life, Tessa and I decided to run away. The day came for us to leave. I waited for hours by the valley near the aspen tree for my twin as agreed. She never showed up. That day was our only chance. I planned everything so carefully. We wouldn't get another opportunity like that in a long time, so I could not let it slip away. But I waited until twilight, when the bigger werewolves began to enter t
