LOGINOne of the witches appeared on his right. She raised her hands to say a chant. Maddox blurred to her, jumped in the air, and snatched her fucking head off that evil body. When he landed on the ground, he spat the head out. It rolled over the ground. Those white eyes were now blank and vacant. Her mouth had been open. Black blood spilled out from those wretched lips. Maddox turned to the other side and the body crashed to the ground. But that wouldn’t be enough. If the head and body were left too long on the ground by themselves, they would eventually draw closer and reform. He had to destroy the heart. Fast, he blurred to the witch’s other half, dug her claws into the chest, and wrenched out the heart. It beat in his pawsBlood dripped down and stuck in his hair. Maddox squeezed the organ until it was nothing but a thick, sludgy jam.One of the witches cried with grief. A violent roar raged out of him as he raced toward the sound.Come on! The witch appeared and put her hands ou
These were three horrid creatures, much older than Diana and saturated in wicked darkness. They looked like one of the many dead witches Maddox has seen on a war-riddled battleground. These had white hair and dark red eyes. The entire half of the shortest witch’s face was covered in warts, reminding him of the Japanese yin yang symbol. The other two witches hissed. Graying skin hung away from their bones. He guided Camille behind him. “What do you want?”They peered at Camille. The one with warts spoke, “I see you’re having a quick snack.”He growled. “This is none of your business.”She smiled, and the warts separated on her cheeks. His stomach protested in disgust. The warted witch hissed, “No little wolfie, killing humans is our business.”“I’m not killing anyone.”The warted witch winked at Camille. “Is he telling the truth, child?”Maddox had to give it to Camille. Even faced with something as crazy as these witches, she replied with courage, “He’s not hurting me, so you can go
Shock covered her face. “Did you just say witches?” “Yes.” Maddox nodded. “Stay close. I’ll explain later.”He could smell the earthy fragrance of witches all around them and had no idea how many were near. Earlier, he wanted to go to the lake to make sure the witches weren’t on her property. It was the main reason why Gerald and he came to check on her. They’re hiding, but awfully close. The urge to shift into his beast form hit him, but he knew Camille didn’t believe his explanation. She hadn’t truly processed the information he gave her. It wouldn’t be until the moment she saw him change that it would stick to her brain. And now he might be forced to shift right in front of her.No. Not now. This is too fast for her. Too soon. But in the end, she knew she would risk her fearing him if it meant keeping her safe. Will it come to that?Camille remained quiet. She listened, searching for the witches’ location. Their odors thickened in the air.At least three witches. Old ones. Over a
Camille's breathing quickened.“My ancestors had a natural harmony with wolves. The years passed, and they lived in tribes, right along with the wolves. My grandmother believes that they even worshipped the wolves and treated them like gods.” Maddox held all her attention.“When a predator came after my ancestors, the wolves protected them. This made my people brave enough to go out at night.”“They left the caves?”“Yes. And the moon touched them with magic.”She moved her hand from his. “Magic?”“Magic.” He shrugged. “In those times, the moon was a great supernatural power. In some ways, it still is.”“And this was a long time ago?”“Very long ago.”She stopped them on the path. “The moon touched them, and so they became supernatural?”“Yes, but I should explain more.”“Definitely.” she led them around the corner and in between two huge trees, following the path she used to go long ago with her grandfather as a child. “I know it sounds crazy, but this was a different time in the wo
A dark groan left his lips. “I should leave.”“Maddox, when we touch, do you feel it? And don’t lie to me. What’s going on when I touch you?”No words left him.“Maddox…please.”“I have some guesses, but this is all new to me.”“Why did your eyes glow?”He frowned. “You’re not ready for the truth, Camille. Forget about it. I should leave.”“What truth?”“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”“Try me.”“Fine.” He crossed those muscular arms over his chest. “You caused my eyes to glow. You triggered the reaction in me.”His nose didn’t wiggle. Her mind spun with all types of crazy thoughts. She shook her head. “O-kay. What the hell does that mean? So, your eyes have never glowed like that before?” “No. No other woman has ever triggered them to do it.”His nose didn’t move, but I wasn’t sure if he’d truly answered the question.“W-what are you?” she asked.“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. And in the end, I’m not supposed to tell you.”She backed up. “That doesn’t make any sense
Why was Maddox at her house? And how does he know where she lives?Another man stood next to Maddox. She recognized him from the diner but didn’t know his name. Tall and baldheaded, he had brown skin like hers. Both towered over her. Those muscular frames pulsed with strength and electric energy.Maddox held a bag in his hand. The other guy carried two coffees.Camille kept the mace behind her and stepped back. “What are you doing here?”“Good morning, Camille. I hope I’m not waking you up or bothering you. I just wanted to say sorry about last night.” Maddox directed his gaze down to her sandals and then slipped it up to her sundress. “I went by the diner. The little blonde waitress said you called in sick and that she was taking over your shift.”His sexy gaze and seductive voice set her on fire. Her flesh warmed, her nipples stiffened. His palms throbbed, hoping for another touch. Focus. You have to find out what happened. Stop thinking about sex and his body and his touch. What a
