MasukMaeve Cross has but one reason to enter the Blood Hunt... to be brought down by the most feared Alpha alive. For three years, she has been searching for her missing sister, Mara, whose secret letters describe starvation, torture, and imprisonment beneath the pack house of Alpha Ronan Caine. Maeve knows the rules of the Hunt: get to the sanctuary before sunrise and win protection, wealth or a favor from each Alpha who hunted her. If they get caught the one who lays claim to her gets to mate her. Maeve has no intention of fleeing. She means to let Ronan take her, get into his area, save Mara and kill him before he can finish the bonding. But Ronan is waiting for her. Years ago, Mara betrayed his family, opened the gates to enemy wolves, and murdered the Luna chosen to save him from the deadly Sovereign Hunger. Ronan's wolf was starving, violent, and dangerously close to overriding the interrupted ritual. Then Maeve comes into his woods. Her smell soothes the beast inside him. It is her hate that rouses it. And once Ronan has her, he has no intention of letting her go. Maeve is trapped in his estate, looking for her sister and battling a dangerous attraction to the ruthless Alpha she came to destroy. But the more she digs the clearer the truth becomes. Maybe Ronan isn’t the monster who destroyed Mara’s life. Ronan went into the Hunt for revenge. Now he wants Maeve. And whether she hates him or not, his starving wolf has already chosen her.

"There." His lips moved against my skin. "That's not hatred."
"I—"
He kissed higher. The juncture of my thigh and hip. The soft plane of my belly. Each press of his mouth was deliberate, unhurried, as though he had all the time in the world and intended to spend every second of it learning my body.
"I should be trying to kill you," I managed.
"You should." Another kiss, just below my navel. "Why aren't you?"
Because my fingers were tangled in his hair. Because my hips had canted forward without permission. Because the bond was flooding me with his satisfaction, his reverence, his raw and terrible need... and I was drowning in it.
I hated him. I did.
But hatred had never felt like this.
"Tell me what you want," he murmured against my skin. His tongue traced the ridge of my hip bone, and my knees buckled.
"Nothing."
"Liar." His mouth moved lower. "Tell me again."
"Nothing from you."
"Once more." His breath was hot against my curls now, so close I could feel the promise of him in every nerve ending. "And mean it this time."
I opened my mouth. Closed it. My throat worked around words that wouldn't come, denials, insults, demands that he release me. None of them made it past my lips.
Because his hands had tightened on my thighs, spreading me wider.
Because his tongue had found me at last. The sound I made wasn't human. It was animal, broken, dragged from somewhere deeper than my voice. My back arched off the stone, and my hands fisted in his hair, not to push him away, not to pull him closer, but just to hold on.
He didn't rush. That was the terrible thing. He tasted me like I was something to be savored, not consumed. Slow strokes. Lazy circles. Pauses where he simply breathed against me, letting me feel his heat, letting the anticipation build until I thought I might scream.
"You're so wet," he said, the words vibrating against my most sensitive flesh. "Your body knows what you won't admit."
"Shut up."
But my voice cracked on the last word, and he laughed... a dark, pleased sound that I felt all the way to my spine. His tongue returned to its work, more insistent now, tracing patterns I'd never imagined against the pearl of my sex.
My thighs began to shake.
"Tell me to stop." He pulled back just enough to speak, his lips slick with me. "Say the word, and I'll stop."
I couldn't. I wouldn't. The bond was a wildfire now, consuming everything, my anger, my pride, my three years of running. I felt what he felt: the exquisite torture of my taste, the maddening pulse of me against his tongue, the Hunger that had driven him to this moment.
"Nothing to say?" His tongue circled my entrance, teasing, not entering. "Then you'll listen."
His mouth returned to my pearl, and he drew it between his lips and sucked.
My vision went white. The pleasure was a blade, sharp and precise, cutting through every layer of resistance I'd built. My head fell back. My hips rolled. My body moved of its own accord, grinding against his mouth, chasing something I'd never caught before.
"Beg me."
The command rumbled through me. I shook my head, teeth gritted, pride screaming.
"Beg me, Maeve." His tongue flattened, pressed, held. "You've fought me for three years. Fight this too. Or give in. But don't lie to me."
"I hate you."
"I know." His tongue dipped inside me, just barely, and retreated. "Beg."
MaeveI slept for three hours.Apparently becoming an accidental Queen, throwing fifteen wolves through the air, surviving a drive by family reunion, and attending a blood debt feast still wasn't enough to convince my body to sleep longer. Rude.By the time Ronan and I reached the lower cells, Cassian was already waiting outside Mara's interrogation room with coffee. The stone corridor smelled faintly of damp and old iron, the kind of smell that clung to the walls no matter how many torches burned. He held one cup out to me. I stared at it."For me?""You look terrible.""That's incredibly sweet.""You're welcome."Ronan took the cup from my hand, smelled it, then handed it back. I looked at him."Did you just check my coffee for poison?""Yes."Cassian tipped his head back toward the ceiling. "We're doing this now?"Ronan opened the door. "We're doing this forever."Unfortunately, I believed him.Mara was already seated inside a new truth circle that Elowen had put in last night. No
RonanIt took Caine approximately twelve minutes to pretend an invading royal army had not interrupted dinner. I loved my pack. I also suspected every one of them was insane.Tables had been righted. Food reheated. Children reclaimed whatever seats they had abandoned when the horns sounded. Someone had restarted the music. The night air still smelled faintly of smoke and crushed grass where the fighting had been, but the fire pit blazed on as though nothing had ever tried to put it out.Gemma stood behind one of the serving tables threatening bodily harm against a warrior who had apparently taken three servings before everyone else had eaten. Normal. Almost.Maeve sat beside me with a plate she had barely touched. I looked at it. Then at her."Eat."Her eyes narrowed. "Don't start.""You haven't eaten.""I've had a busy evening."I pushed the plate closer. She stabbed a potato with unnecessary aggression. Satisfied, I looked away. The empty chair remained at the end of the central tab
MaeveFor several seconds after the last Silver Crown wolf disappeared beyond the western markers, nobody moved. Not them. Not us. Not me. The clearing had gone so quiet that I could hear my own breathing. Then I turned around. And realized every person behind me was still on their knees.Cassian. Torin. Theron. Tyson. Corina. Lyra. Caine warriors. Trackers. Even Soren had one hand braced against the ground as if she had tried to fight whatever I had done and lost.Only Ronan remained standing. My stomach dropped."Oh."Cassian slowly lifted his head. His expression was flat. "Excellent observation, Luna.""Shut up.""I would love to." He glanced pointedly at his knees. "Unfortunately, I'm apparently awaiting royal permission."Fuck. I immediately reached for whatever part of me had pressed them down. The power was still there. Huge. Cold. Waiting. I pulled it back."Get up."The pressure vanished. Everyone moved at once. Some stood quickly. Others staggered. Theron rolled one shoulde
MaeveI stared at my mother, words gathering inside me that I knew better than to voice. None of them would have been polite. Behind me, Ronan’s anger pressed against our bond, hot and immediate, but I hardly noticed it anymore. Exhaustion had settled into my bones, a deep and bitter fatigue from years of others telling me what I thought, what I felt, and why I made the choices I did.My mother shifted her attention to Ronan, perhaps realizing she would get nowhere with me and hoping for a different outcome with him instead.“Alpha Caine,” she addressed him.Ronan’s expression became unreadable. “I would not,” he replied.“This does not have to end in blood,” she tried.“You crossed my border with an armed force,” he reminded her.“We came for our Queen.”“You found her,” he said, his voice growing cold. “She said no.”I felt something warm flicker inside me at that. He never claimed me. He never said I belonged to him. Just that I had said no.Isolde studied him carefully. “If you tr
