Things were about to change, and I wasn’t ready for it.
For the past few minutes, someone had been relentlessly knocking on my door. I would have opened it if it weren’t for the fact that I knew the moment I did, the normality I had tried to create would cease to exist. In truth, it would be easier to slip back into sleep, where I could lounge beneath the Bahamian sun, a piña colada in hand, and not a single worry in sight. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that running away from your problems never works. And so, my current predicament. With a sigh of resignation, I got out of bed, put on my robe, and reluctantly headed toward the door to open it. As soon as the door was opened, a pair of ocean-blue eyes met mine. “Do you realize how worried I was about you?” Alec said with a mixture of relief and frustration. “Hello, dear brother, it’s also nice to see you,” I said, my gaze wavering slightly from the intensity of his stare. Alec narrowed his eyes, his brows furrowing as he stared intently at me. He looked upset, which was a strange sight because he didn’t seem like the kind of person who could hurt a fly. The girls in my pack often called him a pretty boy, with his dark raven hair, piercing blue eyes, and long lashes. They were traits clearly inherited from our mother. He could have easily stepped out of a Korean drama, and no one would have questioned it. On the other hand, I was average at best. I had inherited my father’s dark brown eyes and hair, along with my mother’s heart-shaped face and warm, tanned skin. My wish had always been to have beautiful blue eyes like our mother, but of course Alec had hogged all the good genes. Unfortunately, the only thing Alec and I had in common was a birthmark on the back of our wrists, a mark he always insisted I keep hidden. “Do you know the trouble I went through to find you?” Alec asked, his tone sharp. I pressed my lips together, knowing he was right to be angry. Deep down, I knew he didn’t mean to scold me. It was just his way of showing he was concerned. “I’m sorry, Alec, I just couldn’t stand that place anymore,” I said, clenching my fists at my sides as the memory of why I left came to mind. A month ago, I had fled my pack because of how harsh the environment could be. Felix, our Alpha, was a cruel son of a bitch who often painted a target on the weakest werewolves. As an Omega, I knew all too well what that meant. I was at the very bottom of the hierarchy, after all. “Michelle,” Alec started, his voice softer now as he took in my words. “I understand you, believe me, I do, but what you did could get you killed. I can’t protect you from Felix, no matter how much I want to. He’s...” Alec stopped, a bitter expression crossing his features, “our Alpha.” I dug my nails into my palm, attempting to maintain control of my emotions. He was right; what I had done was against pack law. My foolish self had thought I could run away. I thought I could finally break free from the oppression I had constantly lived under. However, if Alec could track me down, Felix could too. “Go and pack your things. We’re returning to the pack before it’s too late and someone tells him you’re gone,” Alec said, entering the apartment, walking past me and scanning the small space. “Alec, I hate that place,” I said, crossing my arms. “Maybe if you help me, I can escape for good.” Alec walked over to my couch and grabbed a small glass bear that decorated the coffee table. “No, it’s too risky,” he said, inspecting the bear. “I’ve been telling everyone you’re sick. It’s the only reason no one has informed Felix. But people are starting to get suspicious.” I sighed. Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy. Even though the pack was large, there were still prying eyes everywhere. “There’s no way out of this, is there?” I said, defeated. Alec shook his head. “I’m sorry, Michelle, there isn’t... but don’t worry, I will protect you from the rest of the pack as I’ve always done.” I smiled weakly at that. Alec had always protected me, even as kids. He shielded me from the Kappas, Iotas, Zetas, and Epsilons who were intent on making my life a living hell. Don’t get me wrong, I could hold my own with words, but once they realized they couldn’t outwit me, they’d resort to physical fights. Unfortunately for me, that was my weakness. And so, Alec would step in, beating the crap out of anyone who dared to lay a hand on me. But again, I was no pushover. I had a sharp tongue that could assassinate someone in their sleep. Many despised me for it, but I couldn’t help it. Speaking my mind has always been my way of fighting back. The only people I spared from my wits were Alec and a few close friends. Everyone else? They could suck it. “I’ll be waiting for you in the car,” Alec said, making his way to my door. I watched him leave, a heavy sigh escaping my lips. “Fine,” I muttered, turning toward my room to pack. It seemed that things were indeed about to change. I just hoped it was for the better. The next morning, my phone buzzed, jolting me out of sleep. I groaned, rolling over to grab it from the charger."Yes, Sofia?" I mumbled, my voice thick with exhaustion. "What's so urgent at this ungodly hour?"The faint sunlight filtering through the curtains suggested it was far too early to be dealing with drama."Mija, did you hear the news?" Sofia's voice sounded tense."What news?" I asked, sitting up and rubbing my eyes."Someone's getting disciplinary action today," she said, her tone bitter. That got my attention. "What happened?""They're saying an Omega tried to attack a Zeta," she replied. "But the rumor is that the Zeta deserved it." She paused, and I could feel the frustration in her voice. "It's so awful how divided this pack is.""It really is," I agreed.I hoped Alec's plan of taking over would be sooner rather than later. We really needed a new Alpha."Anyway, attendance is mandatory. I'll go to your place, and we can go together with Gabriel, okay, mija?""Sure thin
I wanted to win this little game despite the odds being nonexistent. That is why I ran towards the closest shifting site and undressed like an army of fire ants had ambushed me. I bunched up my clothes and hid them behind a tree, marking the tree with my claws so I could find them later. The shift to wolf form was quick.Once on solid ground, I sped into the woods. My paws lightly touched the ground as I zigzagged through trees and dodged large rocks. It was exhilarating. I had forgotten how amazing the wind could feel on my fur.Snap.My ears twitched at the sound of snapping branches in the distance. Nicholas was already on my trail. Damn, he was good. I should have expected no less from an Alpha. I made a sharp turn and headed north.Nicholas let out a howl, letting me know he was close.I pivoted and headed toward the sound of water. The pounding of paws inched closer. He was gaining on me. I could feel it, but I kept running anyway, hoping I could lose him.I skidded to a stop wh
"Michelle, are you okay?" Alec asked, his gaze drifting to mine.My stomach dropped as I stepped out of Nicholas's hold. Surprisingly, he didn't try to stop me, and I was able to fully face Alec."Yes, Alec, I'm okay. Don't worry about me," I said.Alec's eyes drifted to Nicholas. "You. What do you want with my sister?"I felt Nicholas's wolf prowling with a vicious intensity that made the air thick. He wasn't used to being challenged. The thought of Alec questioning him had probably set his wolf on edge."Maybe you should ask her yourself," Nicholas said, his gaze indifferent, as though the entire confrontation was nothing more than a mild amusement to him.Alec's eyes turned to me, and I pursed my lips. What exactly was I supposed to say? Hey, I put a laxative in his drink, so now he bit me as revenge?"I've got this under control, Alec. Don't worry about me."Alec furrowed his brows, his attention snapping to Nicholas, who had grabbed me and pulled me against him."Now, little Omeg
William and I had stopped to buy snacks and were now sitting on a bench near one of the parks in Crescent Moon territory. After talking to him for a while, I now know William’s favorite color, drink, and food. Oh, and apparently, he had a thing for thick women.Interesting what you can learn in a short amount of time.“So, what brings the Shadow Moon pack here?” I asked as we transitioned from lighthearted topics to something more serious.I swung my feet, enjoying my mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was a rare indulgence in this pack since Felix’s reckless spending left us without money more than half the time.William paused, clearly caught off guard by my question. His playful demeanor shifted slightly, and a sharp look crossed his face.“Ah, babe, didn’t anyone ever tell you curiosity killed the cat?” he said, though his tone was still teasing.“Good thing I’m not a cat then,” I replied with a smirk.William chuckled before leaning back on the bench. “Well…” He trailed off, clear
I was sure no amount of perfume could hide the intoxicating scent of musk and earth that Nicholas Mark emitted. The scent was intense, so strong it was almost suffocating. It was an obvious warning to anyone within a five-foot radius that I was off-limits.The idea of being claimed by him pissed me off so much that a rebel in my thoughts urged me to exact my vengeance. There would be no greater pleasure than destroying him, to have him at my mercy. However, as unfortunate as it sounded, taking his warning was probably for the best.I sighed. If I didn’t have to wash dishes in the dining room, I would stay in my room until the mark disappeared. Unfortunately, I had been called back to help in the kitchen, and skipping chores was not an option. If I were reported for disobeying a task given by a higher authority, it was considered an offense that warranted discipline, in other words, a whipping in front of the entire pack. There was nothing I hated more than being whipped in front of wo
As soon as I felt his sharp canines pierce my skin, I screamed, the unexpected pain catching me off guard. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I fought to push him off me, but it was useless. His hold on me was firm as if he’d trapped a prey; he had no intention of letting go.“N–Nicholas!” I shouted, struggling beneath him. But despite my frantic attempts to break free, I couldn’t push him off.“Keep still, little Omega,” he muttered through the bite, coldly.“Nicholas, you son of a–” but my words were cut short as he pulled back from the bite and began lapping the wound with his tongue, nice and slow. The feeling sent a shiver through me, causing my heart to spike. The intimacy and the possessiveness in his touch, I had to admit, felt good as hell. When he finally pulled away, his hazel eyes glowed in the dim light. He was no longer the man I had met outside the dining hall. This was a completely different person. A dangerous beast that could kill me if he wanted to.“And just li
