Escape from the City
Claire sat and listened to the argument between the president and the governor. She took a quick stare at the men standing behind them and they seemed not to be interested in what was going on. They kept straight faces and did not bulge. It was almost as if nothing was happening.
Then suddenly, there was silence and she turned to gaze at the president who chuckled and asked the governor.
“Why are you so passionate about these animals?”
The governor swallowed hard. He gazed at him in silence.
“If I hadn’t known your kids I would have sworn that perhaps one of them was a changeling.” The president continued.
The governor gazed briefly at Claire who gazed back at him in anticipation. She was anxious to hear what the governor’s excuse would be for supporting the werewolves.
“Or is it a friend? Because I know your wife is not a werewolf.” The president continued.
