Chapter 57: Home at last

Taelin-

Entering my house, I was hit was the lingering scent of my mother. Sadness washed over me with the memory of how I last saw her. If I would have known things were going to end up like this, I would have made our last memory a good one.

“Are you okay?” Ryker asked when I stopped inside the door.

Standing in the living room entrance, I looked around the room and saw my mother’s favorite book sitting on the coffee table. The quilt she made was thrown on the couch as if she just left it laying there. A bottle of water was also sitting on the side table, next to the couch.

It looked like she had just stepped out of the room, and she was going to return. My mom was a clean individual, and she rarely left things out like this. When she was done with a book, she would place a bookmark inside it, then return it to the bookshelf.

After she was done with her blanket, she usually folded it up and placed it on the back of the couch. Now it looked like she just stepped away for a moment. Th
