Chapter 56: Returning Home

“Is this it?” Ryan asks as we reach the gate that encloses the location where I grew up.

I thought that by returning home, I would feel something more than what I do. At the very least, I thought I would be happy to return. Looking at the large gate, I felt disconnected.

Now it felt like a place, rather than a home. Maybe because it was empty and everything it had once been, was now gone. Now, it was just a temporary location we would be staying at until we found a cure.

“This is it.” I answered without a single emotion in my voice.

Standing outside of the gate, I waited for something to connect with me. The last time I was here, I was overfilled with emotions, with being home. Now I don’t know what I felt.

“Oh cool!” Ryan rushed forward to open the gate, but he stopped short when he realized there wasn’t a way in. “How do we get in?”

“Wait here, I will be right back.” I told him as I started down the side of the gate.
