“Why are you helping me when you hate me? Is this because you want me out of the way?”

I was too curious – too suspicious – not to ask again.

Actually, I hoped she could get Kian’s attention. If she wanted him so badly, I prayed she got him.

“You’re quite easy to hate, you know?” She said with a sort of derisive chuckle that made me want to do something irrational. “And who the hell wants your leftovers?”

“You’ve chased after Kian all your life and now you want to act like you don’t want him? Can you fucking slow down?” I clutched the seat as she sped up her car.

“I’m doing you a favour so shut the fuck up,” she barked at me.

I shut up.

After a short silence, she finally spoke.

“You think you’re better than me, huh?” she blurted. “As arrogant as that bastard. You know nothing about me, yet you’ve given yourself all the liberties to judge me.”

She spoke in a tone that made no sense. Verity Caine was known widely as a vain woman. There were hushed up jokes that the V in her name stood f

As expected, we received a grand welcome at the Luna Moon pack. The Alpha, his successor and even some of his elders welcomed us at the airport. We moved in a luxurious convoy, and once we reached the pack house, we were greeted by even more people. The tension in the air was palpable as they all tried to kiss up to Kian with wide smiles on their faces. Kian, however, was more focused on holding me tight like a thief he was unwilling to give a chance to escape.Did he know? I had had many sleepless nights in the past few days. I felt like his eyes were constantly watching me, like he could read my mind and see into my soul. It was a disconcerting feeling that threatened to drive me mad.Despite my worries, determination prevailed. If he wouldn’t let me go, I had no choice but to run away. Thankfully, this trip he forced on me came with a perfect opportunity. In Dark Howl, I was under surveillance twenty-four hours a day. Here, things would be different. Kian could only carry so much w

“Kian,” I called his name in warning as I tried to get his hands off me.“Natalie,” he responded with a growl. “Why do you have another man’s scent all over you?”“Since when did you care?” Rather than assuaging him, I got upset. “Didn’t you tell me you didn’t care what I did with my life as long as I stayed out of your way?”“I changed my mind,” he growled.“You can’t change your mind. You can’t fucking change your mind, Kian. Not now. Not when I’m done with you.”“What do we do, then?” He asked in a laughing tone. “I want you, Natalie, my mate. I changed my mind. Aren’t you happy? It seems playing hard to get has worked.”“I’m not playing-““It doesn’t matter.” He released me all of a sudden. “Have a bath. Wash off that disgusting scent on you and join me for dinner.”“Hey –““That was not a suggestion, Natalie.” He smiled – no, he barred his teeth in warning.‘What’s wrong with him?’ My wolf whispered to me, on edge.‘That’s his fucking business.’ I snarled, unknowingly transfer

When I explained all of this to Aaron, he had a look of sympathy in his eyes that made me uncomfortable. I knew I’d been acting foolish for a long time and the last thing I needed or wanted was sympathy. I didn’t want to look any more foolish than I already felt so I turned my gaze away from him and stood.I stood abruptly, forgetting the pain in my lower body. A sharp pain diced into me at the abrupt movement, causing me to fall forward. Before I hit the ground, Aaron caught me. His arms wrapped around me from behind and I swallowed the scream I’d been about to unleash.“I’ve got you.” He tightened his grip around me and I exhaled a sigh of relief. “I’ve got you, Nat. You can rely on me.” He helped me up and continued to hug me from behind. “Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you.”“Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of finding myself?” I felt strangely uncomfortable in his embrace so I pried his hands loose from around my waist. “I’m grateful for all the help I’ve received fro

“I am pathetic, aren’t I?” I laughed at myself.“No, you’re not,” Aaron responded almost immediately. He was my friend so he supported me but even I knew I was pathetic. I cringed thinking about all the foolish things I’d done in my lifetime just because I loved one man. It was no wonder no one respected me. I’d never once conducted myself with respect. Somewhere along the line, I’d become thick-skinned and forgot what it meant to be embarrassed just so I could be with Kian.It was truly pathetic.“I am. I can’t even divorce my mate. I can’t even run away without help.” “Kian Zephyr is a powerful man, don’t forget that,” Aaron said. “Anyone would struggle going against such a man.”“He threw you into the dungeons for helping me and I – I don’t even have anyone else to call so even after I’ve put you in danger once, I’m still dragging you into my problems again.”Against my best wishes, my eyes started to water. I hated that I was a crier, hated how strong my emotions could get to th

KIAN’S POVShe must really hate me. I chuckled to myself as I read what Natalie had recently purchased. A post pill, huh? I had mentioned the idea of her getting pregnant on a whim and the first thing she did after was to purchase an emergency contraceptive.Did she hate me so much that she gave up on even the idea of starting a family with me? Where was the woman who would sneak into my room and try to have her way with me? Where was the woman who only knew how to dream about a future with me? She always wanted a daughter that looked like me and now, I was willing to give her one.“Alpha, we have concluded the report.” I raised my head to the man cloaked from head to toe.The Dark Knights had contacted me about a lead on the killers of Natalie’s parents. Even though I didn’t want to leave her side, even though I wanted to hear her moan my name and beg for me until she was out of breath, until she passed out, I left in a hurry to find out what those bastards were up to.I was doing al
