Chapter 0001

Seraphina POV

I woke up from my sleep and stirred on the bed. The moment I recalled what day it was and what would take place in a few hours, I jumped off and headed to the wardrobe.

After selecting one of the many towels, I walked to the bedside and took a seat as I let out a yawn.

This was no dream, I smiled.

Lucius and I would become husband and wife, after many years of waiting to be given a chance like this.

A smile appeared on my face this time. I got on my feet, inclined to arrive at the bathroom when a knock landed on the door.

When I opened it, it was Helena: a maid in the Pack, and closest friend.

“Good morning, Luna-to-be,” she teased as she walked into the chamber with a smile that rested on her face. “How is my friend doing today?”

“Well—” I turned around and walked to the bed. “I am well, about to take my bath.”

“The members should not be kept waiting because of you,” she scoffed and jerked me up from the bed where I was seated. “Go already.”

I walked into the bathroom, with the towel I selected moments ago. I took a seat in the hot tub and scrubbed my body before making it out of the bathroom.

I walked out to meet Helena who rested on the bed.

“Who do we have here?” She chuckled as she sat up, scanning my whole body with her eyes. “My lord will not believe his eyes by the time I am done with you, Seraphina.”

“I thought so, too,” it was my turn to chuckle. Without hesitation, I sat at the front of a mirror.

By this time, voices of the wolves in the Pack sounded in my ears, and by now it had become very obvious that I was about to be crowned as the Luna of a great Pack.

I muttered some words when I recalled how it all started, including how I left my parents to be with the Alpha, Lucius. With a smile that still rested on my face, Helena walked to the spot and helped with getting me dressed.

The makeover session was a smooth one and while we went on with the task, there was a woman-to-woman gossip session that took place in the room.

“You will have children as soon as possible,” she said at some point. “The Alpha will cherish you more than now. It has been so for a very long time.”

I nodded.

“Of course, Helena. The same way I will cherish him more than now.”

Why was I anxious? I asked myself when Helena finished with my makeover.

I got on my feet, admiring the new look on me with thoughts of how Lucius would end up loving me the most.

When I arrived at the field, the wolves chimed a song I acknowledged while I strolled to the front of the stage where chairs were set up for just me and the man I would be married to in a few hours, if not minutes.

A man I fucked a few days ago.

I took a seat on the chair and looked around for my man, but he was nowhere close to the seat next to me and meant for him.

Immediately, I snapped a finger.

The guard who was close by saw my signal and this caused him to hurry to my side.

“Where is Lucius?” I asked and looked around before meeting with the guard's gaze. “He is not in the field, yet. What is the matter?”

“My lord will join us as shortly as possible,” the man let out with a tone that made me feel better.

I tossed a sigh and gave a nod.

“Do you want something else?”

“No. You may leave,” I gestured with my hand.

He walked away and Helena, who was seated behind me, patted my shoulder. “Relax, he'll be here shortly.”

“I have waited long for this day, Helena,” I grumbled, not hiding what I felt inside of me. “It is high time he shows up and we get over with all of these.”

Her hands still rested on my shoulder, and now she came to the front so I could see her face. “You will damage the makeover with the worry on your face, my Lady,” she warned. “Now smile and wait for your man.”

Even though I was smiling, there was hurt inside of me. My breathing altered in some kind of way and I censured it on Lucius's lateness to an event that should have begun.

Of all the questions that I asked myself, I wondered if he was alright. The urge to reach out to one of the guards and ask that they check up on him was a strong one but I held back myself from overreacting.

“Wolves of Blackthorn Manor!” A wolf climbed the stage and grabbed the microphone. “I welcome you to the occasion we have waited for all our lives.”

The wolves cheered, rising to their feet for a quick chant.

After a short while, they took a position in their seats and the youthful man continued his speech, while the others—including me, cracked up at a joke he made.

“My lord is on his way,” he assured us. “He is taking enough time to look good for the Luna-to-be, as expected.”

I acknowledged that he was right for a moment.

I have been too anxious. Lucius made a promise to me and I have already taken him as my love.

Everything will be fine.

I will be his Luna, as the whole Pack expected.

Then, I heard him say—

“—oh, he is here.”

“All hail the Alpha!” The man who disseminated with the wolves, commanded.

“Long live the Alpha!” The wolves said in response.

I could finally see Lucius after waiting for this long. A sigh of consolation broke out of my mouth and I grinned, for the first time since my appearance at the field.

This time around, I rose to my feet when he moved toward the stage.

“What took you so long?” I hugged him quickly and glanced at his face for the smile that was not there. “Are you okay?”

There was no response and I was certain something went off with him.

I could discern it in my bones.

“How are you?” He asked when he was seated, and veered around to catch a glimpse of Helena before looking at my face again.

“I was busy, forgive me.”

“Shall we begin?” The young MC asked.

“Yes.” Everyone, except me, replied.

Something was wrong with him.

There was just something I could not lay my hands on, and this was something I understood I would get at before the pinpoint of the occasion.

Why did he not tell me about how stunning I looked in the transformation?

What happened to the kisses we shared, even in public?

I turned to glance at Lucius who seemed to be far away from the field.

He rose to his feet without speaking a word and attained the stage, waving a hand at the wolves who cheered momentarily.

“Wolves of Blackthorn Manor, I hail you all,” he started and veered around to look at me, no expression on his face.

“There is an announcement I would love to put together before we proceed with this ritual.”

Everywhere went tranquil the next instant, our ears fervour for whatever it was he was going to say.

“I, Alpha Lucius, renounce you, Seraphina, as my mate.”
