***Logan’s POV***
I bolted awake only to be met with a splitting headache. Looking around, I was lying on the living room couch. Bryan was sitting across from me in the recliner, his tablet in his lap.
“Morning cupcake. How you feeling?”
“Like a herd of elephants just ran over my head.”
“Damn, Luna has a hell of a right hook.” A smiled played on his face.
“What?”
Bryan closed the case on his tablet and leaned forward. “Let’s play a game. Its call the ‘Lets See what Alpha remembers in the last 24 hours’ game.” He seemed annoyed, almost angry. “What do you remember about yesterday morning?”
I squinted my eyes. “I remember….waking up next to Auri. I had a phone conference in the morning. So I got up, got dressed, made coffee, and had the leftover sandwich Auri made.”
He clapped enthusiastically. “One point! You’re already doing better than last time we played.” Sarcasm was dripping from his words. “What’s ne
***Auri’s POV*** Over the next few months, we dealt with the increasing rogue attacks. None of them were as big as the one the day of Ty’s baby shower, but they were still exhausting. Logan wouldn’t let me out though to help in the field. Instead, I took up my place at his desk in taking care of all the pack and business paperwork. I had become well versed in everything that had to do with his businesses. He trusted me now to just take care of it if I felt comfortable doing so. But as the months went on, I felt increasing anxious about Morgan. The High Council was not fun. They were a collection of overseers, or they liked to think of themselves as protectors of the peace between supernatural beings and even humans. They liked to make decisions, thinking that they were making them on behalf of their entire race. But corruption was deep and you had beings who were over a thousand years old. It just created a lot of headache for everyone. Not to mention
“No Auri. I’m not letting you go without an escort.” Hector was standing in the corner of the room, Bryan in the other. I was leaning against the front of Logan’s desk and he was sitting in his chair behind it. We had already had the discussion about leaving for a week a couple days ago. It was met with some pushback but now I was hitting a roadblock. “Logan, I’m going to be more protected there than I will be here! We don’t even need to worry about rogue attacks there!” “Auri, I’m not changing my answer.” “Logan, you have kept me under surveillance for five fucking months. I gave up complaining about it. I am asking you for one week. With my Papa. Surrounded by vampire and werewolf guards. I’m not pulling Hector or Bryan to sleep on the couch for a week while I’m trying to take care of Morgan!” Logan pinched the bridge of his nose and it ticked me off even more. “Auri, you aren’t under surveillance. We are doing it to protect you as my Luna.
I was pacing in the suite. Papers were strewn about on the dinning table. A few of them were being held down by an ashtray that long since needed to be emptied. Morgan sat on the other side of the dinning table. His head was in his hands, a cigarette still burning between his fingers. “Okay, let me go through all of this bullshit that has been served us.” Morgan just nodded some of the ash falling onto the paper below. “The BloodHunter Coven has been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Keeping the ideals that humans were meant to feed them and they are the next in the evolution. They kill without thought and it wasn’t until they have taken over three major cities across the US that the High Council is requesting help.” I turned on my heel and paced back the way I came. “We have, from an unknown source, that there is compound out in the middle of fucking nowhere. It’s currently housing an Elder as well as his ‘son’ who is currently
I unhooked the first grenade and tossed it into the compound. It exploded and the heat from it made my eyes water and burn. Damn these things were potent. Jumping, I cleared the 10ft wall cleanly and tossed another grenade on the incoming group of vampire. I watched this time as the vampires bodies disintegrated into ash. Those who only were partially hurt were screeching. The entire compound was in chaos now, just as I wanted. Fucking hell it was hot though. 'Auri, toss one on the other side of the compound! So they think there are multiple people!' I nodded and lobbed the grenade over the main building and waited for a moment before the ground shook with the explosion on the other side. Adjusting my angle, I threw another one more west of the last one, still lobbing it over the main building. More screams and the smoke billowed up into the sky, blotting out the sun. There were a few vampires still standing i
I attacked when he was mid shift. He managed to swipe me me away though with his changing hand and I flew back, slamming into the wall. I coughed up blood as I tried to catch my breath. My knives had fallen out of my hands and I just took a deep breath before standing back up. “Shit. You’re an ugly fuck.” Elongating my claws and teeth, I attacked again. Dodging his swipe, I went in for a bite at his arm membrane. It tasted as gross as it looked but he yelled out in pain. “Fucking wolves, you’re a damn abomination.” I jumped back away from him. “Obviously you haven’t looked in the mirror lately.” We locked in battle in the small room. He threw me around a few more times and I got a few bites into him. I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere with him. 'Time for plan B.' 'What's plan B?'Kai asked. 'Use what we got left.' I ducked and dodged my way toward him and grabbed his feet with m
No one really prepares you for a mate. It’s hard to explain the mate connection to someone who doesn’t have it. And to someone who has found their mate, they already know and you don’t have to explain it. But what they don’t talk about is the relationship struggle. Your soulmate, chosen by the Moon Goddess, that you literally just met and laid eyes on. Building that relationship is not as straight forward as it seems. More than that, the connection you two share. The emotional, physical, and mental connection that comes with the bond. It’s far different than the connection with your wolf. So vastly different but at the same time, still a piece of you. Auri was a handful. When I was out on patrols or missions, the guys would talk about their mates. And sure, Auri’s cooking was sublime and even the boys whined if she didn’t pack a lunch for everyone but it was more than that. They talked about the submissiveness of their mates. Auri was always on fire. While she had stopped co
His question threw me off guard but another painful surge ripped through me. I thrashed against the pain and Bryan tried to hold me down against the bed. Justin rubbed his neck as he stepped away from the bed, his brow knit. “I can’t help him.” “What the fuck Doc? He’s in pain! Literally writhing in it!” Hector gestured to me. He shook his head. “It’s not him…it’s the pain trickling through the mate bond.” Everyone grew quiet for a few minutes. I took a couple breaths, the pain subsiding for a moment. “What the fuck do you mean?” He looked at me with an emotion I hated; pity. “The mate bond transfers a lot. Feelings, emotions, and sometimes sensations. Especially when a mate bond is strong. One of the reason why mates go crazy when the other mate has died is because the mate bond will transfer the pain, the feeling of death over to the other mate. Albeit only a tenth or so of what that mate is actually feeling, but it’s enough. Sharing a tenth
It was a while before we managed to pick ourselves up off the the ground. Morgan left and I knew I probably would never see him again. He have given me something more. I looked at the note I was holding. The three of us walked back in silence to the house. Our whole pack was in mourning but no one bothered us. Knowing what we were going through being the ones closest to her. That we felt the pain more than they ever would. I made my way to the bedroom and locked the door behind me. With the letter safely on my bed, I showered and cleaned up. I was afraid to get the letter dirty. I broke the seal and poured out the contents of the envelope. There was a note wrapped in twine and a pressed Starflower tucked into the twine. There was also a secondary package wrapped in brown paper. On the package it read ‘Read note first. Nice try.’ I chuckled. She was bossing me around still. Untying the twine, I gingerly placed the flower to the side and unfolded the pages of the letter. It ex
