It was the day.
The day I dreaded.
The day I had been waiting for.
I sat before an old and intricate mirror. In it, my reflection was almost unrecognisable. The room buzzed with movement og maids, stylists, and attendants. All fussing over me as if I were the most important person in the world.
How ironic.
They say that when you die, people ultimately pay attention. Even those who never cared find something kind to say. Maybe that was why they were all looking at me now.
But I wasn’t dead. Not yet.
Their attention on me was suffocating. Every touch, every whispered word, felt like I was being shaped into something I wasn’t. Something I would never be. Something I wished to escape at any cost. Even if the cost was death.
"Is she ready?" My mother’s voice cut through the noise.
"Yes, Mrs. Rosetti. Miss Rosetti is ready," the makeup artist said.
I turned to look at my mother, standing tall in a gown of deep champagne, diamonds and pearls glistening against her beautiful skin. Next to her was Alyssa, my sister, my maid of honor. She was stunning in her shimmering dress as if she were the true bride.
I wondered what it felt like to be the most beautiful woman in the room. I supposed I would never know.
Today, I had asked them to make me beautiful. Just for once. Just for today. I deserve this little happiness, right? I deserve to look my best self today.
"Alyssa, bring your sister out in ten minutes," my mother said. "Your father will be here soon."
Alyssa barely looked at me as she was too busy perfecting her lipstick.
A maid whispered something to her, and I saw her face light up.
"Miss Alyssa, Alpha Juno is just outside."
Without hesitation, she smiled and hurried out.
The makeup artist followed, leaving me alone.
Finally.
I turned to the maids who remained. "Will you let me know when my sister returns? And… could you bring me some water? My throat feels dry. I might not be able to say my vows otherwise."
They rushed off to fulfill my simple request.
If only they knew.
If only they had understood that vows were the last thing on my mind.
I had nothing to say. No final words, no goodbyes. There was someone whom I wished to address before leaving. Red. My wolf.
She was asleep inside me, quite unaware of what I was about to do. I whispered, "I’m sorry, Red. This world is too cruel to us. We will never be accepted, never be loved. I know that I am a coward, but I can’t live a life where every day is a battle just to survive. I know that the day where we are treated better will never come. Forgive me for taking this step. I am just too helpless.."
She stirred while sensing my intentions, but she was too weak to resist. Our souls were connected, and she knew that I was trying to end both of us.
I reached into my wrist cuff and pulled out a single tablet. It was enough. A painless and quick death. It was easier than dragging myself through a meaningless and painful life.
Just as I was about to place it on my tongue, the room shook with a deafening explosion. The impact jolted me, and the tablet slipped from my fingers, rolling out of reach. Before I could react, the door burst open.
A group of masked men stormed in, and their presence suffocated the air.
"She’s Hector’s little bride. Get her."
The cold and final order rang out.
Before I could process what was happening, rough hands grabbed my hair and yanked me forward. A sharp pain shot through my scalp as I was dragged across the floor.
"Who are you?" I gasped.
They only laughed mockingly.
Terror seized me as I was pulled outside. The sight before me turned my blood to ice.
Dead bodies.
Our pack warriors lay lifeless, their blood staining the ground.
"Hector ran away," someone spat in disgust.
Coward.
The man leading the attack tensed as he sensed a new presence. And then, he was there.
Alpha Juno.
Without hesitation, the leader turned to his men. "Take the girl and go!"
"Beta, we can’t leave you!" one of them protested.
"I can take this bastard down myself!" the leader snarled. "If we lose her too, this mission is pointless. Now go! That’s an order!"
The soldiers obeyed while dragging me along as the battle raged.
The stench of blood filled my lungs. My dress, once white, was now streaked with red.
And then, I saw them.
My mother and father, fighting for their lives.
Alyssa was near them, frozen in fear. A blade came toward her. And in that split second, she turned. She used my mother as a shield. The sword cut through her like she was nothing. My mother’s body jerked as dark and endless blood spilled from the wound. The droplets splattered across my wedding gown, staining it forever.
"Mom!" Alyssa shrieked.
My father turned at the sound but didn’t move towards her. He was too deep in the fight to care about the woman who had just given her life for his daughter.
Then, a roar shattered through the chaos.
I turned just in time to see that the leader of the invading group was murdered in cold blood. His blood splattered across my skin, my dress, my face.
"Beta Killian!" someone whispered, voice filled with grief.
As he lay dying, his lips parted with his final words.
"Don’t let my death be in vain… Tell Alpha Dante…I will always be grateful for the life he gave me… I died for my brothers… Go."
And just like that, the war swallowed him whole. Not us him but all of us. In one way or another.
The wedding had turned into a battlefield.
And the suicidal bride was now a prisoner of war.
This was not the fate I had imagined.
But this was the fate I was forced to live.
This is my first time taking this new way of writing. If you read my previous works, you will notice that I have changed my writing style a bit here.... anyways, how do you like the chapter?
The gender reveal party was held at Vespara’s house. It was a small, intimate gathering as only close friends were invited. Everyone stood around, chatting and smiling, waiting for the big moment. Finally, the balloons popped, and a cloud of pink confetti flew into the air.“It’s a girl!” someone shouted.Dante and Scarlet looked at each other, their eyes filling with tears. Without saying a word, they wrapped their arms around each other, holding tight. To be honest, they hadn’t been hoping for a boy or a girl. They just wanted a healthy baby. But now, knowing it was a girl, everything felt more real. They could picture their little girl, finally, their dreams had a face.“I’m so excited,” Dante said, grinning from ear to ear. “We can finally start working on the nursery!”Scarlet laughed. “Amy’s old clothes, the cute ones she never wore more than once, I can finally see them on our baby again! Some outfits were just too special to give away. And now,” she added with a playful smile,
Scarlet’s POVAmy sat with her perfectly curled hair bouncing gently as she played, her spa session finished, and her cheeks still rosy from the pampering. Scarlet, meanwhile, was still enjoying the last phase of her treatment, with Ace nearby keeping an eye on her. With the guards casually watching over the children’s play area, Amy’s sharp little eyes caught something or someone. A flash of a familiar figure. That boy again. The same one she had seen before, the one her little heart insisted was Ace.Without a sound, Amy slipped away with the ease of someone who had done it before. The guards didn’t even notice. Her tiny feet padded across the marble floor of the luxury mall and led her into a high-end restaurant, which was less frequented by the elite but more by the rich and reckless youth of the capital. She entered confidently, her small hand reaching up to tug at the sleeve of a boy wearing a varsity jacket. He looked down, surprised. His eyes were deep golden, his hair dark wi
Scarlet’s POVAmy and I strolled through the mall, her tiny hand clutched tightly in mine. We had gone from store to store but hadn’t found the one. Then we stumbled upon a quaint boutique tucked in a quiet corner of the mall. It wasn’t high-end or flashy, but something about it called to me.“Shall we try here, baby?” I asked Amy, who nodded eagerly, her eyes catching on the grand piano in the corner. Her excitement lit up the room.We stepped in and were immediately greeted with wide eyes.“L… Luna Scarlet?” the boutique owner gasped, then quickly composed herself. “Welcome! Please, come in, Luna, Miss Lockwood.”She seated us with practised grace. “What are you looking for, Luna?”“My best friend is hosting a gender reveal party. I need a dress for myself and for Amy, matching ones. Also, a similar of Amy’s dress for her sister, Nora. She is one size up.”The owner’s face lit up. “I know just the thing.”She returned with a long, glowing white dress that shimmered softly under the
Scarlet’s POV“Do you have to go?” Dante asked as he watched me grab my bag. “Can’t you rest today? You weren’t feeling too well earlier.”I gave him a reassuring smile. “Dante, I’m fine. It is just the baby being extra playful lately. Vespara worked so hard to organise this gender reveal party, I want to find the perfect dresses. Something special. For me and for Amy.”“I could have every designer boutique brought to the mansion,” he offered. “You just name it.”Sometimes, he was a little too possessive. Well not sometimes but all the time. Sometimes, its hot. But other times, like right now, it is so annoying! Can a hot pregant woman not go out shopping with her bestfriend who also happened to be her daughter? Again, I am not introvert. I have another bestfriend as well! It did not matter that Vespara and Amy and Ace were her bestfriends. Nora and Auggie were in my friend group as well! SO, I am not completely antisocial right? “How about I go together?” Mr caveman asked. I chuckl
Scarlet’s POV“Did the Sapphires cause trouble for you?” Vespara asked, settling beside me on the oversized couch. The ceremony had ended, the chaos finally behind us. Ace and Dante were still occupied in the council chambers, meeting with elders and state officials which was one of Ace’s new responsibilities as the Alpha’s heir.Meanwhile, the children were tucked in bed, fast asleep after the long day, and here we were, just two exhausted women, finally in our pajamas, nursing a well-earned glass of wine in the quiet warmth of the sitting room.“They didn’t say anything outright,” I replied, leaning my head back on the cushion. “But oh, those looks. I swear I could feel the daggers flying across the room. I get it though… I do. Their daughter was Dante’s mate. They’re probably still mourning her. And then there is me so much younger, taking the place they probably think should have belonged solely to Marielle. I must be a walking insult to them.”Vespara snorted, nearly spilling her
Amy looked around in panic, and her eyes landed on the one person she trusted above all others when her parents weren’t close by.“Brother!” she called out, her voice rising above the crowd.Ace was already moving before she finished the word.Ace reached his little sister in a matter of seconds, quickly assessing the situation. Amy was staring up at the furious woman, her lips pressed into a defiant pout, fists clenched at her sides but there was fear in her eyes too.He crouched down, gently wiping the smeared ice cream off her cheeks with his handkerchief. Then he leaned in and kissed her forehead.“Little tornado,” he said softly, “your mom’s looking for you. Let’s not worry her, okay? And hey, let’s say sorry to the old lady, alright?”Amy clung to him silently, her lower lip wobbling. Before he could guide her away, the woman’s sharp voice cut in.“Who are you calling old lady?”Ace stood to his full height, holding Amy protectively in one arm. His expression didn’t change as he
