Chapter 0003

Mabel’s POV…

He looked tattered and unkept. His beard was unshaven and I could tell that he’d had trouble sleeping same as I did, but I didn’t care, at least not like I used to. He’s the one that deserves to suffer, not me.

“Is this the promise you made to me, Cillian? Is this how you chose to love and stand by me always? Is this how you intend on keeping the vows you gave on our wedding day?”

“I would never hurt you, Mabel. You know that. You know how much I love you,” he tried to come closer, but I stopped him with my glare.

“Is that all you came here to say?” I asked impatiently, wiping a tear off my face.

“First, I want to apologize for Megan’s behaviour. I heard what happened between you both, and I’m sorry she pushed you to the wall. You don’t have to feel bad for hitting her, she’s the one who put her mouth where she shouldn’t have.”

I rolled my eyes. Was this his way of making me feel better for what he did?

He changed the topic after noticing my reaction.

“Caitlin is the only daughter of the Silver claw Alpha Gabriel.”

“How wonderful. You chose well. A perfect royal replacement for a commoner queen,” I said sarcastically.

“Stop it, Mabel! You know I would never choose anyone over you. It was never my intention to break my promise or hurt you.”

“Then make me understand why you did it anyways.”

“That’s what I came here to do,” he began to explain. “Theo and I, along with the Alphas we toured with were scheduled to visit the Silver claw pack that day. It was the first pack we visited after I left. Following our meeting, Alpha Gabriel celebrated our visit with a small feast and coerced us to spend the night in his pack house despite having prepared for hotels. We agreed, and I got drunk during the feast. Alpha Gabriel sent his daughter to help me to my room because I was tipsy. I never knew she was on heat, and I honestly can’t recall anything else that happened that night, except for waking up with us both naked on my bed. I was ashamed for what I did, and I planned to eventually tell you when I returned. What I didn’t expect was for her to get pregnant and claim me as the father. Caitlin told everyone in her pack, and what more could I have done than openly take up responsibility for my actions?”

“I want to ask you a question and I want you to be very honest with me, Cillian.”

“I will answer anything you ask, Mabel. I swear I won’t lie.”

“Did you mark her?”

“I would never. Marking would have involved my wolf, and I was too drunk to even communicate with my wolf that night.”

It felt like I released a heavy breath I was holding after his answer. Thank the goddess that didn’t happen. Cillian’s eyes were so full of remorse as he continued speaking.

“I know that telling you this will not change what I did. I know you feel hurt and betrayed, but please, Mabel. Don’t hate or cut off from me because of this. You know how much I love you. You know that the five years we’ve been together have been the best for me. You are my only Luna. You are the only woman that carries my mark and that will remain so till the end of time,” he got on his knees. “I pray you will forgive me.”

“So what about the baby? What will you do with it if you don’t intend on marking or making Caitlin your wife?”

“I had a long conversation with Alpha Gabriel regarding that. He was a strong ally, so it only made sense for us to talk it out like brothers. I didn’t want to kill my child, but I also didn’t want to sacrifice my marriage. He made his point clear that he would never let his daughter have an abortion, the same way I expressed that I would never get married to another woman. We both agreed that despite the mistake, the baby was innocent and deserved to live and be cared for, but Alpha Gabriel didn’t want to dishonor his daughter by letting her remain with him while the father of her child returns to his pack. Everyone in his pack had heard about my childlessness, so he convinced me to let me have the baby so I would have an heir. It was a tough decision to bring Caitlin here, but I had no choice. I knew you would hate me so much for this, but I prayed to the goddess that you would at least hear me out.”

When Cillian mentioned his childlessness, I knew he was indirectly referring to mine instead. It was my childlessness, not his. He only said it like that not to upset me, because now he has a child, and I don’t. I smirked at my humor. The truth hurts like a bitch.

I didn’t know when he came so close to me, taking both my hands in his as I looked down, battling the tears. He lifted my chin with his finger and made me look into his eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes I always found so hard to resist. Gosh.

“Please, Mabel. Forgive me. I beg of you. Don’t hate or leave me because of this. And please, let us have this child. I promise it won’t lessen your authority or queenship. You will always be my one and only Luna.”

I was beginning to give in to his advances. This was one thing I didn’t like about Cillian. How he made me so weak, how he made me so powerless at his touch…

I didn’t know that someone else had entered my room until I heard her voice. The voice of that…, that witch that tried to steal my husband!!!

“I’m sorry to interrupt. I didn’t expect to find you both here.”

“Did you miss your way coming here, young lady?” I snapped at her. “In case you don’t know. This is MY bedroom.”

Caitlin nodded. “I know. I came here to see you, Luna Mabel.”

To see me? Was she kidding me?
