LOGINChapter 4
Conrad Stone ~•~ “Unfortunately, he was killed by my former Luna, Zoey Malik.” Knowing that your mate murdered your best friend was a traumatic event. And the worst part? She was constantly denying it after being caught. Everyone saw her clothes soaked in his blood. I couldn’t even give her the benefit of the doubt if I wanted to. What would the other members of the pack think? That they can commit crimes and go free? The pain of the bond severance stung but it was overshadowed by grief. I had to cut ties with Zoey before sending her into the dungeon. I knew how I felt about Zoey the first time our wolves sensed each other. I felt I was being cursed by the moon goddess. I mean, I always expected Wendy to be my mate. But it turned out to be a mere maid in the pack. A powerless orphan. I didn’t want to accept her at first, but my mother convinced me to do it. As time passed, I gradually warmed up to Zoey. I discovered that she wasn’t that bad. Zoey just needed to clean up. She was an attractive girl but was too poor to keep up with her maintenance. But after I marked her and took her into my home, I noticed that her appearance changed and she started to look the part. I wasn’t embarrassed to be seen with her anymore. With time, I even stopped cheating on her with Wendy. Just when I thought I could fall in love with her, she went ahead to commit an unforgivable crime. A part of me wishes she didn’t do it because I had developed a soft spot for her. But I had to give her the same punishment I would give to every other person. “She will be thrown into the dungeon to pay for her sins.” The crowd was pleased as I announced Zoey’s punishment. “We will all gather some other time to give Ethan a befitting funeral.” I never imagined having to plan a funeral for Ethan. It was heartbreaking to even say it out loud. I already missed Ethan dearly. I just wanted to get the punishment over with, so I would retire back to my room and grieve properly. When I was done addressing the crowd, I walked over to Zoey and asked. “Why did you do it?” I wanted some sort of closure. I wanted to know her motive for killing him. He didn’t deserve to die. “I didn’t do it, Conrad. I’m being framed. There’s a real killer out there and you want me to pay for a crime that I didn’t commit.” As usual, she continued to deny it. I wasn’t surprised. “Take her,” I whispered to the men who would be taking her to the dungeon. But just as they were about to do it, a loud voice echoed from the crowd. “Mate!” The crowd went silent and parted like it was the Red Sea. I was surprised when I saw Sean. He was a Lycan king from a neighboring pack. We met a few times but we weren’t exactly friends. But we weren’t enemies either. He was more powerful than me and I always learned to keep my distance from Lycan kings. I knew that I wouldn’t stand a chance to win a fight against them. It took a second before I realized that he found his mate in my pack. My eyes darted through the crowd as I anticipated to see who the person was. Sean didn’t stop walking until he came to where I stood with Zoey and the men who were about to take her. “Mate.” He repeated, his gaze fixed on Zoey. It must’ve been a mistake. Sean and Zoey couldn’t be mates. I was her true mate. Even if I rejected her, no one else could sense her as their mate. It was all a big misunderstanding. He must’ve gotten the wrong person. Before anybody could say anything, I stepped in between them. “No, you’ve made a mistake. Zoey can’t be your mate.” I said, looking up at Sean. He was a few feet taller than me. It felt like he was hovering over me and I was a little bit intimidated, but I stayed calm. “Zoey is my mate,” I added. Sean looked at me, his eyes raking over me from head to toe. “Are you trying to say that the moon goddess made a mistake?” He asked, his voice hoarse. Then he turned to Zoey. “Is he your mate?” She hesitated for a second, then she stuttered as she tried to respond. “Y…no…not…not anymore.” Sean smiled. “She’s not your mate.” He replied as he reached out for Zoey’s trembling hand and interlaced his fingers through hers. “She’s coming with me.” He declared. The crowd erupted with frustrated roars. “I’m afraid that you can’t take her right now.” I continued my voice firm. “She committed a crime and she has to pay for her sins.” Sean brushed off my concerns with a dismissive wave. “Oh, about the murder? I know that my mate isn’t capable of killing someone.” He vouched for Zoey as if he knew her. “And I’ll prove it to you by exposing the real killer.” The crowd erupted again, this time with louder whispers. I raised a brow at him. “How do you intend on doing that?” Sean smiled. “Just give me a few weeks. If I don’t expose the real killer, then you can throw Zoey into the dungeon.” He replied, his voice calm. “He can’t just walk here and do something like this,” Wendy murmured on my shoulder. “Ask him to leave.” She added, her voice thick with disdain. Normally, I wouldn’t have agreed. But thinking about it, Zoey wasn’t capable of killing someone. I wasn’t completely ruling her out as the murderer. However, if there was a chance that someone else was the killer, I was interested in knowing. I knew that the pack members wouldn’t be happy, but I had to take my chances. “Fine, you have four weeks,” I said aloud. “I’ll only need two.” He answered with a cocky grin. As the crowd reacted, my gaze was focused on Zoey. If Zoey and I were true mates, then how did she form another bond? And if she didn’t kill Ethan, who the hell did?EPILOGUE Zoey Malik ~•~ TWO YEARS LATER A lot can change in two years. Or maybe… everything can. I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the sleeve of my dress, my reflection staring back at me. My hand moved absentmindedly to my stomach, resting there for a second longer than necessary. My lips curled into a small smile. That alone was enough proof that everything had changed. The pain, heartbreak, and betrayal didn’t disappear, but I didn’t let it control me anymore. A soft knock came at the door, dragging me out from my thoughts. “Zoey?” I turned slightly at the familiar voice. “I’ll be out in a minute,” I replied. It was the day of my mating ceremony. Conrad and I were officially renewing our vows and the mate bond that once broke between us. Yes, I also found it so crazy and unreal that I was giving him a second chance. But over the years, he had proven himself to me. He spent the last two years carefully piecing back my trust th
Chapter 111 Zoey Malik ~•~ For a second, he just stared at me, like he’d been caught doing something he could never explain his way out of. “Who told you?” Was that what he was concerned about? My chest felt tight. Too tight. I couldn’t breathe properly. Everything was happening so fast, and I was barely holding myself together. “Just answer the question,” I replied, my voice weak. I was exhausted. I just needed to know why he brought me to his house after what he made my parents go through. I was just a kid. He took them away from me. I wanted to know why he did it, and most importantly, why he brought me into his home. Sean didn’t respond immediately. I could see a flicker of guilt flash across his face. He scratched the back of his head. “Zoey…” his words trailed off. He probably didn’t know what to say to me. I blinked back my tears. “Just tell me the truth, Sean,” I replied weakly. “I’ve already found out the whole truth. Just help me
Chapter 110 Zoey Malik ~•~ “I think you should call Conrad.” “I think I am about to have a panic attack.” Selena and I tried our best to push open the door. But it was locked. I banged on the door several times, but it was impossible to break. I should’ve known better. The moment I told Sean I was leaving and he just… walked away, I should’ve known something was wrong. My chest tightened as the realization settled in. He had a smart home and he had locked the door through his phone. My jaw clenched hard enough to hurt, anger bubbling beneath my skin. But there was nothing I could do about it. I was trapped. “Follow me to my room,” I muttered. Selena trailed behind me while I walked to the room. When we got inside, I locked the door. I pulled out my phone. “Maybe I should call Conrad.” Even though I hated him, he was the only person I knew who could help me. Selena also needed to get back home. “Yeah, you should.” She nodded in agreement.
Chapter 109 Sean Bradford ~•~ A part of me wanted to tell Zoey the truth. But even though I tried, I couldn’t. I couldn’t just throw all my months of hard work down the drain. I wanted to know how she found out about my mom's death. I felt really terrible, but the deed had already been done. Zoey looked at me with so much disappointment, but I just couldn’t be honest with her. I had no idea what came into me, but I grabbed her tighter even when she screamed and struggled to get away from my grip. I didn’t want her to go. I still needed her. That was the only way I could get Elara back. “Let go of me, Sean!” She continued, trying to catch her breath. Her friend was also trying to pull her. But I didn’t let go. I couldn’t. “Tell me how you found out about my mom before I can let you go,” I finally said even though I didn’t mean it. No matter what happened, I wasn’t going to let Zoey go. She signed a contract and she had to live up to it. “I saw
Chapter 108 Zoey Malik ~•~ Selena held my hand. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. “Your mother is dead?” I asked, trying to clarify further. He nodded. “Yes.” There was a hint of guilt in his eyes. “Okay,” I whispered. “So who was that woman? The one we went to visit the other time?” “An actress.” I blinked. “An actress?” I couldn’t believe it. “Yeah, but she’s still part of my family.” I rolled my eyes. Did he think that things would automatically become okay if he said that she was part of his family? “You had someone act as your dead mom?” I continued, still finding it difficult to process what I was hearing. “And you also added that she was sick?” The entire thing actually made me feel sick. Why would he go to such lengths just to lie to me? Then I turned to Eve, who was still quiet. “You also lied to me. You made me believe that his mom was alive even when I caught you in your lie.” She shifted uncomfortably on the cou
Chapter 107 Zoey Malik ~•~ “It just doesn’t make sense… I mean, why would he lie about something so important,” I muttered, mostly to myself. Selena looked at me, her eyes filled with sympathy. “Maybe you should talk to him first. There has to be some sort of explanation.” “If his mom is really dead, why would he make another woman act like his mother? What is he hiding?” I’d thought of all the possible reasons why he would do something like that, but nothing made sense. There was nothing he could say to me that would be able to make me understand why he lied to me. Selena let out a sharp exhale. “Just go back home and talk to him about it. Don’t just assume things.” “Really?” I rolled my eyes at her. “You heard the kid. The woman was never sick, and Sean isn’t her child!” “I know, but you need answers and the only person who can give them to you is Sean.” I was quiet for a while before I continued. “And Eve. She made me trust her, but she knew what was
Chapter 6 Conrad Stone ~•~ “Are you out of your mind?” Wendy exclaimed. “Why did you let him take her? Do you want the other members of the pack to think that you aren’t a man of your word?” Her eyes blazed with anger. I let out a sharp exhale. “Wend…..” She cut me off before I coul
Chapter 94 Zoey Malik ~•~ Wendy’s scream echoed in my head continuously as I tried to sleep. Even as I closed my eyes, I kept seeing her terrified face. I shouldn’t have watched them do that to her. My fingers curled into the sheets as I squeezed my eyes shut tighter, like that alone
Chapter 84 Zoey Malik ~•~ When I saw Conrad’s name flashing across my screen, my face formed into a frown. I’d just spent a few minutes talking to him on the phone and pretending like I didn’t hate him just for the sake of his father. Why was he calling me again? Did he think that
Chapter 74 Zoey Malik ~•~ After a while, Sean stepped into the room. “Why did you come back so soon?” He asked, his eyes fixed on me. I rubbed my neck. “Nothing…” I lied. I still didn’t want to talk to him about it. “What are you doing here?” I demanded, folding my arms around my chest
