Chapter 9

Adeena's P.O.V

"What are you doing here?" Noah asks upon seeing me inside the palace library.

I might have sneeked in using the vines from my garden, I didn't want to risk my parents seeing me come in. I'm not supposed to be back here, especially without consent. But I needed to know what was going on with Kalan, I needed to know what was going in inside his head.

At some times, he can be quiet and just give me eyes and other times he's mean, he keeps threatening to reject me, not that I would necessarily care, there's a lot that I could do without the burden of taking care of him or his pack.

"Looking for something" I answer closing another book and putting it back onto the shelf.

"And you thought it would be here?" she asks while moving close to me.

I look up at her slowly, taking in her appearance. Noah looked as calm and collected as always, you can never get a solid reaction from her and that's why she and Kalan would have been perfect for each other, she would have known how to handle him.

The way she strode over to me was enough to tell I was in for an earful, I'm always ready for an earful from her.

"I need your help", was all I said.

She stared at me for a few seconds before turning to look to the door. Noah held up two fingers and swung the door shut, locking it and dimming the lights just enough.

"I'm guessing things are not well with the mutt?" Noah asks taking a seat next to me at the table.

"Not exactly" I sighed, I explained what happened earlier and she just listens.

Noah's the one who listens to all our problems and plays her roll a little too well, she was a mother figure to both Athena and I. Erika was to all three of us but after she left to tend to her duties as a warrior, Noah took over and she's the best, she had always been the best.

She endures more than she should and that would always break her down, even if she hides her feelings, I could always see how she truly felt.

"So I need to know what his problem is" I sighed stretching across the many books I was trying to read.

I've been inside here for over an hour, I hoped no one would find me, Noah always finds me, I keep forgetting how good she is with her senses.

"I can show you" she replies with a shrug.

"You would do that for me?" I ask kind of shocked.

Noah has never used her abilities in a certain way, I've seen her use it on many occasions. She could see into the past, and show you the future, Mother always advised us to be careful how we used our abilities.

If we've never had a lot of time to learn how to do something, it can really be harmful to us.

"I would, but you're not ready to see it all just yet" she says as if telling me it's better left unseen.

"But how will I know?" I whine sitting up and sighing. "I don't even want to go back there".

"Look, all I can say is, Mother knows why she put you two together and the reason is always a great mystery, you can only figure it out once you've had patience", she closed her eyes and took a deep breath before continuing. "He's got issues and so do you, you know nobody's perfect but this is your destiny, you can only embrace it and support him every step, you'll see how much you both can endure together" she nods.

"But what's the point?" I stressed, "I bet he doesn't even know I'm gone, I'm just going to stay here for a while".

"Fine, but just so you know, you don't have much time until your transformation, you're going to need him" she explains patting my hand.

"I forgot about that", I stare at the dusty books with a weary feeling washing over, "she cursed me" I say causing Noah to laugh.

She did curse me, and didn't even give me any instructions on what to do. You can't spoon feed a child all their life and just put them off into and unknown world like that, that's cruelty.

"She didn't curse you Adeena", she chuckles and shakes her head before taking my hand. "Come on, they'll be gone for a few days, we have the place to ourselves" she smiles.

Yes, I've been missing my sisters. I can  try to comprehend what Noah explained, she didn't give me a straight answer but I will have to stay with Kalan to figure it out myself.

A sharp pain in my abdomen woke me up from a well deserved nap, I sat up clutching my stomach and panting. I got up from my bed and proceeded to walk slowly to the door, only to hunch over, crying out in pain. I fall onto the floor and clutched my belly while crying, it felt as if my organs were twisting into each other.

I hear a few bones crack making me cry even more, I try to use my magic to open the door but to no avail, my body was starting to spasm into shock due to the intense pain.

My door flew open, almost hitting me because I was right behind it, luckily Athena grabbed onto the handle and looked down at me in horror.

Noah kneeled beside me and tried to help me up but the more she tried, the more I was in pain, it's as if my body didn't want to be moved.

"I told you that you needed to go back" Noah sadly says, combing her fingers through my hair.

"Noah, what's happening to her?" Athena tears up.

I could see her body trembling in fear as she kneeled next to Noah, who was trying to soothe the pain.

Noah could actually take pain away, we all could, she does it more often than any of us though. Erika has to do it most times when saving someone while she's on the road.

"I'll explain later, help me get her to the bed" Noah answers, still trying to help me up.

I cry out in pain as my senses started to get weird, I could hear the sound of water flowing somewhere and the smell of lilies from my garden. Everything was starting to feel overwhelming, causing a wave of anxiety to wash over me.

"It's okay, you're okay" Noah caresses placing me onto my pillow, "you're going to be okay" she whispers.

Hot tears rolled down the sides of my face, my body still shaking from whatever it was that was happening to me. I read about this earlier, if I'm not close to Kalan when it's my first time shifting into a wolf, it can cause immense pain, the process might take longer than it should and as much as I don't want to be near him, I really wished he was here, if only for this moment alone.

Noah kept her palm on my forehead, she groaned in pain but didn't stop, I didn't want her to feel what I was feeling, she has already been through enough.

"I-It's okay" I manage to cough out, touching her hand. "Just put me to sleep, please" I plead, watching as she nodded with tears in her eyes.

As my eyelids became heavy, I tried to remember how I got here. I used a spell to take me from the Nexus Pack to the Moon Palace, that was the longest distance I've done, but it was worth it, my sisters are here with me rather than people I've only known for almost a week.

Kalan is the main reason I'm here in the first place, he should be with me but he's not, because he had to be a jerk.
