Chapter Eleven: Don't mark her

Blake’s body was taken out of the house quickly after, and burial arrangements were made. Later that night, I trudged up the stairs and entered my room to see Eve with tears in her eyes, and a few leaking onto her cheeks.

She lifted her head up to look at me. “He’s dead, isn’t he?” She whispered. She was sitting on the bed and hugging her knees. “I saw the… the stretcher and they-” Her breathing caught in her throat, and she wheezed, crying.

For a few moments, I simply stood at the door of the darkroom, watching her. Then my feet moved on their own accord, and I put my arms around her and wrapped her in a hug. She wrapped her hands around my neck and cried into my shirt.
