Chapter 13

Amelia looks at Damian who is busy working while eating her fries dipped in ice cream.

'Handsome' she thought but blushed when she realizes what she just said in her mind.

Damian suddenly remembers something and opens the drawer in his table. He pulls something from it and places it on top of his table.

Just when he was about to call Amelia, she calls his name. "Mr. Damian," she said while fidgeting.

"Just call me Damian," He says before adding, "What is it?"

"W-what do you plan on doing once I give birth?" Amelia asks. Although nervous, she mustered up the courage to ask him.

"I was about to say it to you," Damian says and picks up the small box. He stood up and sat in front of her.

"Here," he said as he handed the box to her. Amelia took it and as she opens it, what was inside the box was a ring.

"What is this for?" She asks, getting straight to the point.

"It's an engagement ring. From now on, I'll be introducing you as my fiancée" Damian said with his legs crossed and his back leaning on the couch.

"What?" Amelia said with confusion in her eyes.

"We're going to get married after you give birth" Damian added.

Amelia looks at the ring with uncertainty hidden in her orange eyes.

"Even though you don't love me?" She asks, her eyes glued on to the ring.

"Love?" Damian's brows creased at the unusual question. "I don't do that sort of thing. I'm just taking responsibility for the mistake that I made. Isn't that enough?" Damian said with confidence and indifference in his voice.

"I see," Amelia said. Growing up, Amelia had always thought marriage is between people who love each other. She had always dreamt of a marriage life like her parents. She grew up watching her parent's endless love for each other and she hoped her future husband would love her just as she would love him. 'Who knew it would be like this' she thought as her dreams were shattered by what Damian said. Without realizing it, Amelia was already clenching her fist.

Damian notices Amelia had become quiet. "Amelia?" He called.

"H-huh?" She said and looks up after hearing Damian call for her.

"What's wrong? You suddenly became quiet" Damian asks.

"Nothing...." Amelia said and waves her hands while trying to smile. "I-I'm going back to my room. I'm feeling sleepy" Amelia said, trying her best to show a smile.

"Ok. Go to sleep," Damian says as he stands up.

Amelia stands up, walks to the door with the box in her hand, and was about to open the door when Damian stopped her. "Amelia"

She turns around and looks at him.

"Goodnight. Sweet dreams" he said with such gentle and care in his eyes that she almost wavered, again.

"You too" that was all Amelia could manage to say. She wanted to leave the room as fast as she could. She opened the door and quickly shut it.

She walked quickly to her room, as fast as her legs could take, trying hard not to run as she was considering the baby's health.

After she entered her room and shut the door, Amelia completely lost all energy and slumps down by the door. She sighed heavily, trying to lessen the weight on her chest. Amelia felt her tears coming so she hugs her legs and hid her face.

'I feel pathetic' she said in her mind, recalling the words Damian had said.

While silently crying and trying her best not to make a sound, she remembers Damian's gentle and caring eyes that seemed as if she was a vase that could easily break. Those eyes made her heart waver. 'How is he so kind and hurtful at the same time?' she asked in her mind as she sniffled.

Amelia felt weak and helpless. There was no use regretting her decisions since it won't change the present but she couldn't help it. Her fiance's hurtful attitude towards her made her upset so she couldn't help but cry. She continued to cry and wiped her persistent tears. 'I miss my parents' she suddenly thought which made her cry even more.

She slowly stood up after minutes of crying and laid down on her bed. "My eyes will be swollen tomorrow," she said to herself.
