Chapter 70

ADRIAN

Whatever it cost me. It didn't matter. As long as the pack was safe.

For over twenty years, that mantra remained at the back of my head, guiding every decision I made for my self and the ones I ruled over.

Even while Logan was Alpha, before his forced exile, it lived and breathed through the walls, whispering and re-echoing whenever they got the chance to.

And that's why, upon his return, I never stood in his way.

Because as hard as it was to admit, the truth was pretty clear

AURORAThere are a total of thirteen master bedrooms in Alpha Steven's IronClaw Mansion. Considering that the new and refurbished pack grounds is almost three times the size of this setting, I can only imagine how big it's gonna be in there. But why, of all bedrooms Aaron could've chosen for the couple to spend their night… did he choose the room directly beside mine. I'm quite literally between a rock and hard place. Not only is the room to my left for the newlyweds, but the room to my right… is Lisa’s. Aaron's planning on doing something tonight as well. I just know it. “That should be all for now. We've gotten rid of the cobwebs and dirt. The windows and doors are decent now as well” Avery speaks up for the first time since we both entered into her room for the night. “Mnn. I'll head down to the storehouse to look for some clean sheets then. Shouldn’t be lo—”“Can we talk?” She mutters, the second I reach for the door knob. Obviously, this was always going to be inevitable.“

AURORAWith the citrusy scents now dead and gone, I can't help but pick up their tracks the moment we make it back into the house. “Alpha Steven! Always a pleasure to see you” Felix beams a smile. As fake as it looks, I divert my attention. But in doing so, my eyes rest on my sister's slender figure standing right beside him. She's looking straight at me, with the same expression she had on when I crashed her wedding. “Travelling bags? Don't tell me you two are moving in or something” Alpha Steven’s ironic comment manages to address the elephant in the room. He walks further into the large living room, standing a reasonable stretch away from the couple. “To what do I owe this wonderful surprise.”“Oh? He hasn't told you yet?” Felix mouths, but our silence is answer enough. “I guess not. Not that I'm surprised though. Aaron has his way of doing things, I guess. He reached out to us earlier in the morning. Said the renovation of the pack grounds was complete, and we'd be able to kick

AURORAHe's been counting his steps since I followed him out the kitchen door, and now I think I understand why. The unforgiving rays of the afternoon sun is exactly what a setting like this would need to bring out it's beauty. “The Iron Oak Estate. Vineyards of the IronClaw pack” he mutters, hands crossed behind him as he walks through the cleared path, right through the middle.Scents from every fruit imaginable burst through, clouding even the scents of the omegas and gammas working on either side of us. The landscape seems to stretch in forever, it's path gently ushered further in by lush vines and wild, rolling hills. “I'd always wished to have a place like this courting our pack grounds. Felt it would be one thing that would distinguish my reign from that of those before me” he mutters as we trudge further in. “But after we lost to the pack grounds to that unfortunate accident three years back, I was kinda glad she was able to convince me to grow something like this a stones

AURORAI've never been a fan of mornings at IronClaw, but if I'm being honest, it's not just the mornings I struggle with. I've found it hard to connect with this place, and I think it's because I've been hesitant to give it a real chance. Instead, I've been isolating myself upstairs, further separating myself from the rest of the pack. Everything's been getting on my nerves lately, and if I'm not holding back my tongue to prevent a hotter spell of anger, I'm ridden by discomfort. Only time I make an intentional effort to leave my room, is when I'm heading to the bar.God, even their alcohol sucks! I was virtually forcing it down my throat last night.“Twelve in the afternoon. I woke up early today” I mumble, staring at the clock in kitchen while battling with a hangover. Now that I give it some thought, I haven't been downstairs since the scuffle with Aaron a couple nights back. Better still, I haven't been downstairs since Mason and I got into it earlier that day as well.Mason's

MASON“You're just a little kid—”/PUNCH/“...who’s lonely, tired and confused—”/PUNCH/“...stumbling into every avenue your fidgeting hands can find—”/PUNCH/“to give you a false sense of freedom.”/TWAT/My final attempt to take my frustration out on the wooden dummy in front of me fails as I misshit and its handle comes flying right back at me, slapping the attention back into my psyche. I wince, stepping back a little and trying to convince myself that screaming my head off won't take away frustration.I don't have many vices, so often times when I get in my head, the only place I can visit is the training room. The State-of-the-art facility would've been nothing but dust and cobwebs if I'd left it the way my father treated it. But seeing I had to use something around this mansion to keep myself busy, I had no choice but to renovate the place. Last thing I expected was for my dumb equipment to come slapping me back in the face. /WHAM/I punch the dummy and flies across the r

MASONOut the corner of my eyes, I see her storm out the kitchen. “Isn't this the part where you run after her and try to explain—”I tighten my grip on his jaw, and he replies by tightening his as well.“Not sure you've learnt this yet, little one. Would you rather get your ass whooped by me now, or chase after after your homewrecking little slut?”“If I ever hear you or see you anywhere near Aurora—”“What? What are you gonna do Mason? Say it. You're gonna kill me?”He shoves me back, forcing me to let go of his face as he lets go of mine.“Seems I need to remind you that the only reason you're even alive and breathing right now, is because of me. For your sake, go chase after your slender little damsel. I want to be able to savour every single flavour when I'm breaking you in two.”My fists clench in anger, but I have to pick my battles right now. A fight with Aaron, especially right now, isn't worth it.“This isn't over” I mumble, turning to leave the kitchen and following Aurora
