The Guests

For Novel lovers, especially those who loves romance, every situation in their life would be related to a scene in the book they had read. And that was how Winter's love life is about to turn.

Winter was laying on her bed, giggling as she continued reading an online novel which she had recently taken an interest in. She had originally taken an interest in it because of the title, and now she was loving every moment of it.

"Ouch" She immediately sat up and came face to face with her Mother, Annabel, who was glaring at her. Her Mother had tip toed into her room while she was engrossed in the novel.

"Is this what you are supposed to be doing at this time?" Annabel asked, still maintaining her scowl. Winter shrugged "There's nothing for me to do though"

Annabel let out a deep breath, looking exasperated "I told you one of my childhood friend is bringing her family here to have dinner with us, do you think you have time to waste by reading novels?"

Winter climbed down the bed "Mom, are you sure it's only your childhood friend coming? There's no kid tagging along, right?" She knew her Mom had been trying to set her up with various guys and she was fed up with it. No matter what, her heart was only set for one person, it was him or no one else.

Annabel grinned "There might be her sons tagging"

"Sons? Good, very good! I didn't know you were so desperate for me to have a partner that you want to set me up with two brothers"

"That's crazy and you know it, you just have to be interested in one of them. I can't possibly want you to be with both, can I?"

Winter rolled her eyes "There's nothing you cannot do"

"Anyway, you should help me go to the grocery market to get some things. You have to be fast about it because they'll soon be here and you need to get ready before they are here. I heard her sons are really handsome and they are capable men too, you'll surely like one of them" Winter had never seen her Mother been this excited about someone who wasn't her Dad before and she was genuinely curious about this high school friend of hers.

After putting on her slippers, she grabbed her purse and cellphone "Text what I need to get to me, I'm off to the supermarket" She then went out of the room and headed downstairs.

Her father was there with her younger sister, Summer, setting up the living room. Her mother named them such because she was born during Winter while her sister was born during Summer. The woman could be strangely intelligent sometimes.

"Alas! She left her palace" Summer said sarcastically which made Winter roll her eyes.

"Thank you, Lady Summer, it would soon be your turn"

"Well I'm not the one who is obsessed with a guy who don't know me and keep rejecting suitable candidates for him" Summer shrugged.

Winter's nose flared, she hated it when someone reminded her of the fact that her crush doesn't know who she was and the annoying sister of hers just had to be the one rubbing salt on her wound.

"Like I said, it would be your turn soon. Wait for it, let's see who will have the last laugh"

"The one who has the last laugh is not necessarily the winner, she could be a clown too" Summer retorted.

"Urgh! I suddenly feel like killing someone" She then sprinted towards Summer, who ran away from her.

Their father silently watched them with a smile. The both of them never cease fighting whenever they come face to face.

"Winnie, you haven't left yet?" Annabel was surprised to see her still in the house.

"Mom, Summer was being annoying. I'll leave now" She sent a glare in Summer's direction which the latter returned by poking her tongue mockingly. Winter ignored her and decided to go get what she needed to before coming back to deal with her annoying sibling.

She jogged down the streets, the supermarket wasn't that far from their house so she needed no car or bus to get there. She was humming a song when her cellphone rang, taking it out, she saw it was her best friend, Tenley.

"Talk about perfect moment, why are you calling?"

"Can't I call my best friend?" Winter scoffed because she knew her friend was only bullshiting, Tenley wasn't that nice to call you anytime.

"Why are you calling?" She asked again, there was impatience in her voice which meant if Tenley didn't say why she called, she'll hang up.

"Okay fine. Summer told me you were having visitors today and reportedly, there would be hot guys in your house tonight"

"Urgh! That gossipmonger had done it again. Please don't tell me you are calling to hook you up with one of them cuz I won't" Her friend wasn't the type to be in a relationship. She was the type who have various flings and she never got tired of it.

"Why not?!" Tenley exclaimed.

"Ley, I told you I won't let you have flings with people around me. They are my Mom friend's sons which means they are related to me. There are various guys in the company who wants you, you can gladly change your target to them"

She and Tenley had been friends ever since they could walk and she knew trouble could arise if Tenley got involved with people she knew, which was why she forbade her from doing it. Tenley was a certified heart breaker and she never feels guilty about it.

"Okay party popper, I hope you'll get along with the guys this time and not compare them to your Xander. You need some improvement in your love life and that's why your sex life is lacking. Imagine being a virgin at Twenty five because of a man who doesn't know you"

Winter frowned. Did Tenley collude with Summer to infuriate her this night?

"Whatever is wrong with being a virgin at Twenty five?" "Everything is wrong Win, everything. Don't you think you are always grumpy? It's the reason you are"

Winter rolled her eyes at her friend's unreasonable explanation "Thank you for your advice, your royal highness. I'll hang up now" And she did.

She entered the supermarket and went to get the things her Mom wanted her to. Then she headed for the counter to pay for it.

"Thank you for shopping with us" The lady at the counter told her when her goods had been packaged.

"It's a pleasure" She then went out of the supermarket, heading back home. She tore off the wrap on the the lollipop she had gotten along with what she had bought and she threw it in her mouth as she hopped home.

"I'm back" She said as she entered the house and saw that everything was almost ready.

"Welcome and please go have your bath and get changed. Juliana is almost here" Her Mother pleaded with her and she silently complied. She had decided to behave and let the night pass like others had. It wasn't the first time she'll be set up with a guy by her parents and it definitely wouldn't be the last.

She headed for her room and saw Summer already dressed up for the night. Both sisters had inherited most of their features from their Mom and that was why they looked very much alike. Though, Winter would say she was prettier than her sister because to her, she was prettier than everyone else. She was a narcissist....take note.

Summer's blonde hair was made into waves and she was putting on a cream colored dress and nude heels.

"Win, how do I look?" She twirled in front of her sister. Winter looked her sister up and down and nodded with satisfaction "At least, one of us has to dress up for the night. You look lovely that I'm afraid you might be confused for the one having the date"

Summer scoffed "At least I look good, that's what matter. And if I find the guy to my liking, I might approach him. I'm an adult too"

"Exactly what I've been thinking. Why aren't they setting to blind dates for you too? Why am I always the victim?" Winter lamented as she headed for her room and Summer could only grin as she hurried down the stairs to go tell on her sister to their Mother.

"Mom, I'm afraid you'll have to go dress Winter up, she's probably planning on putting on something unpresentable"

Annabel was furious on hearing that "That young lady wouldn't learn her lesson easily. You are right, I should go supervise her dressing" She then left the kitchen to her daughter and husband before going upstairs.

"Your sister would be angry if she knew what you just did"

Summer smiled at what her Dad had said "Mr Lawson, don't you want your eldest daughter to get married? With how this is going, Mother wouldn't want me to get married before her, I need to push her so I can have my love life in peace"
