Chapter Twenty Seven

ELENA

I laughed out loud at Colton’s joke as we threw stones into the water in front of us.

We had strolled and had found ourselves at another part of the lake, different from the area I had first seen him.

From where I stood, I could see the restaurant, and boy was it still booming with activity.

Didn’t they sleep here?

“You haven’t told me why you travelled all the way down here. Did you come for a vacation? Or an event?” Colton asked from beside me.

I immediately started to feel uneasy. Yikes. Why did he have to bring that up? We were having a great time, and now I had to answers questions about my life.

But what was I expecting?

It was going to come up sooner or later.

I bit my lip for a few moments, deciding on what answer was best. “I guess I could say I came for a vacation.” I finally said, tossing the remaining stone in my hand. The satisfying sound it made as it touched the water was like music to my ears. “I was giving a whole week off at my place of work, and…here I am.” I
