Chapter 24

I make my way through the dark museum halls with hanging skeletons and plastic corpses. Only the sound of the wind is noticeable. I walk through the place silently. No sound comes from my feet, and my breath is quieter than the sound of the hands on a watch.

The World Artifact exhibit is two halls over and on the other side of where I started. There shouldn't be any form of security that I can't handle.

But walking through the museum, there's not a great deal of security. No lasers, or tripwires, or any dogs either. Not even cameras. Which is good, but gets me thinking as I sneak around. There seems to have been an exorbitant amount of money put into building it, but not sustaining it. Evidence of faded power.

I quickly get to the hall with where I think the ring is. There's not a lot of security, but I can guess with some certainty that there's going to be some kind of protection here, despite there being none everywhere else. It's a ring. It's valuable. It's protected.
