CHAPTER 5

THE ACCIDENT II

“Ben was in an accident, was he drinking? Was there another victim? Would he make it ?” the last question made her heart pummel painfully and extremely fast.

She wasn’t thinking as she rushed out from her room and straight to the door . She stopped at the door , she didn’t have a car and it would be too late to see a taxi.

“ What would she do “ she asked fearing for Ben’s life. She didn’t know what she would do if something were to happen to him .

She rushed to Xavier’s room , she knew he would be furious. She had been warned on several occasions to not go there but for Ben’s life she would take the chance .

She rapidly knocked on his door and hoped he would respond to her .

“Who’s there” shockingly he was awake .

“ It’s me Lilian , I know you specifically demanded I not enter here but I need your help “ Lilian’s voice reeked of desperation. She didn’t know what to do as she couldn’t walk to the hospital as this ungodly hour and it was quite far.

“ Come in “ Xavier was going through some files on the floor . She didn’t question why as more pressing things weighed down her mind.

She went straight to the point “ Please I need your help . Could you take me to the hospital. Someone I hold dear to me was just involved in an accident”

“ I wouldn’t have disturbed you but only you can drive me there.. please I beg you “ Lilian was ready to beg on her knees.

“ What is your relationship with this person” He asked not looking at her .

Lilian didn’t know what to tell him “ Should she tell him , that the person was who she loved with her whole heart” She didn’t ow how he would react but she decided to risk it .

“ I was in a relationship before we got married “

He hummed in response .

“ Would you help me or not???!. I knew it was a mistake coming to you for help. I have better chances getting a taxi or even walking there than you helping me “ She snared turning to leave his room .

“ Wait… I never said I wouldn’t take you to the hospital. Patience is a virtue and you lack that virtue “ He said

“ you would help me “ she was shocked and decided to ignore the other part of what he said .

“ I honestly despise repeating my self .. put on a robe and meet me downstairs in the next 5 minutes”

“ Thank you so much “ so he had a heart she thought .

“ Hold on… This is my doing you a favor and when the time comes you would repay it” He said

“ What!?... “ she didn’t want to be in his debt.

“ Close the door on your way out “ He was dismissing her .

Lilian knew she was wasting precious time . Time she didn’t have. Every second she wasted was crucial.

“ Fine whatever you want . Please let’s go” Lilian hoped that when the time came , he didn’t ask much of her.

“ Grab a coat…. The weather is quite chilly” He said standing up from whatever file he was scrutinizing.

The ride to the hospital was awkward and the air was tense but Lilian didn’t bother starting a conversation. All she could think about was Ben as her leg bounced up and down in worry.

“ Can you stop that!!” Xavier demanded.

“ Sorry “ she said pressing both her legs together to stop the shaking.

Lilian didn’t wait for the car to fully stop once they got to the hospital . She immediately jumped out and ran to the front desk

“ I’m here for Ben Gracy “ she told the nurse at the front desk

“ I’m sorry he just got out of surgery , only friends and family are allowed” The nurse replied.

“ I am his emergency contact and sister “ she said partially lying , itching to check on him.

“ Room 11” the nurse said after what felt like forever .

Lilian raced from door to door until she reached room 11 . The sight she saw brought her to her knees in tears.

Ben had a cast on his head , arm and legs . His face was also swollen from the impact.

She saw a doctor and asked if she could see him .

“ Miss Lilian “ the doctor approached her

“ please follow me “ He said

“ Memory loss??..” Lilian couldn’t just catch a break.

“ he had major internal bleeding and he had a surgery to fix that but the problem we are facing is from the impact he had to his head in the accident. We are not sure if he would suffer any memory loss until he is awake. I would access him when he wakes up. Is there anyone you would like us to call" The doctor was still speaking

There was no one. Ben was an orphan and didn’t have anyone except from her .Lilian couldn’t catch a break . Everything was just going wrong for her.

" Doctor Samuel!! He's awake" A nurse rushed to inform the doctor
