Heartbreak.

“So, what’s going on lately?” he started.

“Mm, nothing interesting, I’m just spending most of my time with Paul now,”

He blinked and took a sip of his latte. We were at the café, sitting against the window, talking like the old times. However, there was something unusual in the air between us. The familiarity of knowing a person was missing, it was like he was a stranger who I’ve met and known partially.

Looking around, I realized most of the café was occupied by the same customers, the regulars. The woman typing on the laptop, the two old couples, a man with a hat and the young couple by the stand.

“What about you? How is your life going with Sophia in it?” I said, hoping it didn’t sound like I was jealous.

“She’s,” he paused, “It’s going the same as yours. She is going through some hard time and I am glad I’m with her, you know, to help her out of it or at least get through it.”
