Chapter 2 First Sight

"Hey Matt can we take a break? I'm dying over here." The male groaned, throwing down the sword in hand. Ashton was now 18, only a matter of time before he'd have to take the throne, and only becoming more rebellious as he aged.

With a light chuckle, Matt leaned on a wall. "Fine. That's enough for today, but don't tell your father. He'd kill me if he found out I let you out early." These words cause cheers of excitement from Ashton.

The younger male collapsed to the ground comfortably, giving a sigh of relief. "Hey have you heard about the treaty agreement? Father won't tell me anything about it." He asked curiously. The other male shrugged. "Its just another Heaven and Hell treaty. Nothing new that you need to worry about. Besides. Your father is terrible at bargaining especially when he can't use you as collateral."

"Wait he's trying to marry me off again? Does hell not have a suitable bride." His words sarcastic and mocking. With a laugh Matt spoke. "No. Infact the king of Hell doesn't have any children. He's too young to want any let alone marry. I heard he doesn't take female company anyways." He shrugged.

Ashton looked up at him and cocked his head. "That's an option?" He asked, almost desperate for the answer. For quite some time, the prince had been pressured to choose a woman to be his wife and despite his continued plee to never marry, the king was adamant. Now having given up on his son's ability to find him a bride, he took it into his own hands.

After nearly an hour of the prince and his guard arguing about the viability of the king's plans, the older angel spoke softly. "I know you don't want to do this, but you know he won't give you much of a choice." He sighed. "Behave while I go keep an eye on your father during the treaty. Demons are nothing you want to be messing with." Matt left without another word, causing Ashton to jump to his feet.

He was never allowed in on any political business, the committee having no faith in his ability to speak to other royalty. Ash was incredibly curious to what the Demons were really like. Were they as evil as everyone made them out to be or were they actually just like everyone else? This was a question that would lead him to peaking out the training room door, hoping for his first glimpse of the demon king.

The castle was quiet despite the multitude of visitors and guards purched at the ready. The Demon king lived up to his name, with blood red hair and piercing black eyes, he in no way looked friendly. To other Demons he was a casanova, taking more than a few lovers, but refusing to marry. He stood tall and fierce as he stared the Angel king dead in the eyes. "Well well. What do you plan on bargaining with this time? You have nothing to offer and you time is running thin." He smirked, his voice sultry and deep. The angel king stared daggers at the other, showing no falter. "We have plenty of riches and power to lend if need be. There's no reason why the treaty should end." He spat back.

Ashton watched the two in wonder from the training room door, being careful he wasn't seen. The two kings argued for what seemed like ages, only for it to finally end when the Demons kings eyes seemed to catch on something. It was a few short moments before Ashton realized the other male's eyes were fixated on him with something he couldn't necessarilycomprehend. "Fine. We'll continue the treaty. For now, but you only have so much time left Michael. It won't be long before your heir takes your throne." The demon smirked, taking his eyes off the young angel to meet the other king.

Ash's eyes widened and he quickly hide behind the door. What was that? Why did he look at him like that? How did he even know he was there? There was something bubbling inside him that hadn't felt before, but be couldn't tell if it was fear or something else entirely.

While the King of Hell had left, the castle felt off and gloomy. It wasn't incorrect that the king was growing older, and he was tiring quickly despite the power he held. As was said, it was only a matter of time before the king gave up his throne.

However nobody thought it would be as soon as that night.

When the next morning came, there were screams and tears flooding the halls. The king had been murdered in his sleep. There was no weapon and no culprit. Everyone had been acounted for in the castle. With no murder weapon, no witnesses, and no suspicions, the guards were at a loss.

When word got to Ashton, he felt a mix of sadness and relief. He would taking the throne. He would be able to make his own rule. However, he would also have to renew the treaty on his own and it was only a matter of time before Hell got word of the kings death.

He would have to face the Demon king and with a new treaty and contract needing to be made, he would be doing it alone.
