Ben kept to his promise and came back when he was down speaking to my dad. “Is everything okay? What did he say?” He didn't speak as he sat down and just stared at one spot.“It’s nothing. Just work stuff.”
I should have known something was wrong. His smile was too tight, his eyes avoiding mine just a fraction too long. But I wanted so badly to believe in him - in us.
I placed my hand on his shoulder to get his attention.
“Are you okay?”He pulled away slightly before catching himself. "Just pack business," he said, forcing a laugh. "Nothing for you to worry about."
The way he said it - like I was some child who couldn't handle grown-up matters - made my chest ache. But I swallowed the hurt. Maybe he was just stressed about our anniversary tomorrow.
“Let's forget about that. Tomorrow is our anniversary. Three Year anniversary. I have a surprise planned for you.” He added. My stomach did a backflip and I couldn't keep my excitement as I clapped like a little girl.Three years together. Three years of stolen kisses and whispered promises. Tomorrow was supposed to be special.
“Really?! A surprise for me? What is it? Tell me!” He laughed. “If I tell you, it won't be much of a surprise, would it?” I thought about it. “Screw it. Just tell me what it is.” “Wait till tomorrow.” I didn't have a choice. I didn't want to ruin it but at the same time, I was eager. “Okay, I'll look forward to it.” For the rest of the day, I couldn't get my mind off what he wanted to show me. But then I had other things to worry about. I didn't know what to wear. I didn't even have proper clothes so I called the only person I knew could help me out in this situation. “Helen, hey. I need your help. Ben has asked me out to dinner for our anniversary tomorrow and I don't know what to wear. I don't have anything good. I think he's going to propose.” The way she squealed on the phone let me know that she was just as excited as I was. “Don’t worry, I'm coming over with everything I have tomorrow and I'll make sure you look so beautiful for your proposal.” With that in mind, I felt more at ease. True to her words, she truly showed up with several dresses and make up. “Okay, you're going to try all of them on and let us know which one is best.” I began trying dresses on and even though it was tiring, I was happy because I knew that by tonight, I was going to be Ben's fiance. “Yes! This is perfect. We're going to go with this. Now sit down so I can get your make up done. Its almost time.” All the whole, we already started talking about wedding decorations and dresses. Then an idea flashed through my mind. “How about you go to the hotel first so that you'll be able to get pictures? Then I'll meet up with you later. He doesn't need to know that you're there. We're having the dinner at the roof top.” She nodded enthusiastically. “That’s a great idea. I'll pack up and go there now. Let me know if any updates.” I nodded and then she left. She had made me so pretty and I didn't even recognize who I was. It was a black floor length dress with a slit up to the thigh. It had an off the shoulder neckline with lace sleeves and it fit me perfectly. It was almost six so I was expecting Ben's call any minute. I had made sure to do all my house work earlier so that Gina won't have any reason to call me. I didn't want her to know I was going out. If she did, she'd find some work for me. It was now six with no call from Ben. I tried calling him but it just kept going straight to voice mail. I quickly took off my heels so that I won't feel tired quickly.By six-thirty, my phone remained silent.
By seven, my stomach had twisted into knots. Did he forget?
At eight, when the call finally came, my hands shook so badly I nearly dropped the phone.
"Elinna, I'm so sorry," Ben's voice was strained. "Something came up at work. I have to cancel."
The words hit like a physical blow. "Oh," I managed, my voice small. "I... I understand."
I felt my hopes dashed and my heart sink but I couldn't say anything. I knew that he would be here if he could.
“Oh, it's okay. Take-” He ended the call just then. I sat in the room with my make up and dress, staring at a particular spot. I felt so downcast. I'd really looked forward to spending the say with him. My phone started ringing again and I thought it was him trying to apologize but it was just Helen. I didn't want to pick it up at first but I didn't have a choice. Before I could even say anything, she started speaking. “Ben is such a sweetheart. You should see the big dinner he has planned for you. The roses, the lighting, everything is so pretty.” I was confused. Ben just called to cancel. “Helen, he said he's caught up at work. He just called me to cancel dinner.” She paused. “Maybe he wants to surprise you. Because I'm hiding in a corner and I can see him with the waiters getting the place ready. Why don't you come over and surprise him too?” Why would he cancel with me and then go ahead to still make plans? That didn't make sense. “I think I'll come there and see for myself. Maybe you're being mistaken. Surely , he won't do a thing like that.” I picked up my things and dashed out of the door, making a straight trip for the hotel. I met up with Helen when I got there and to my surprise, she hadn't been joking or dreaming. The rooftop restaurant was everything I'd dreamed of - twinkling lights, roses everywhere, a table set for two. And there he was. My Ben.
Feeding grapes to a woman. Then he leaned in and kissed her on the mouth.

That wasn't the only pain. The other woman was my sister, Lily.
ELINNAFIVE YEARS LATER“I haven't gone to the florist yet. Did you take care of that?”Carlisle looked at me with food in his mouth.“Was I supposed to?”I lost all the strength in me.“Yes! I told you that two weeks ago! I even have you a note to give to the florist. You were supposed to go to him.”He didn't seem as troubled as I was. And it was annoying because it seemed like I was over reacting. Our wedding anniversary was this weekend. Our tenth wedding anniversary and Carlisle said we should come back to the pack because he wanted to celebrate it in the pack.I didn't even think that he would even be brothers to care about it but I was surprised when he did.“You want a celebration?”He nodded.“Of course, it's a milestone and we've been through so much. We should c
ELINNAJust as I'd always dreamed, I got to wear the dress of my choice, not that ugly rag that Lily and her mother made me wear during my first wedding. To my surprise, Carlisle and everyone else had taken care of all the preparations behind my back. That was why they weren't helping out earlier.Everything was to my liking and as my mother walked me down the aisle to meet the man of my dreams, I couldn't help but feel happiness surge through my body. All my kids were grown up now, Chase was ten and the twins were five. They girls had agreed to be my bridesmaids with Helen being my Maid of Honor. She bad flown in to surprise me and I was so happy that Carlsile had invited her.. she deserved to be there with me on my happy day.My mother had blessed me the night before. She was so happy to be here and so was I because she had missed my first wedding and I didn't even think that she would live to see my kids. But here s
ELINNA“What did the lawyers say about Emily? Can they set her free?”He looked at me and smiled.“You’re talking like they're superheroes. Well, in this case, I don't think we have an option. They're still thinking about it. The jury failed to meet on a mutual ground. It's a hung jury basically. So for now, we have to set a retrial."Gosh, that was going to be so much work.“Do they think they can help? I mean, with the way things are going, the public is already outraged that you're helping her to begin with. They think you're going against them. And now, your lawyers are still going to represent her at the trial. What will you do?”He placed his hands on my shoulder.“Don’t worry about that. It will be fine. As long as she's able to get out, I don't think I care. She's just a scapegoat in all this and they want someone to blame. Unfortunately, they can't
ELINNAI cried two times that day.As I watched my best friend from birth walk down the aisle with my mother holding her hand, I couldn't help the happiness that flooded my heart.Helen had been such a good friend to me and I couldn't thank her enough. She had been by my side when I needed her the most and the way she took my kids like her and took care of them just shows how much of a good mother she was going to be.She had a very pure heart and she loved others to a fault. Sam had no idea what Queen he was marrying. She looked very beautiful in this dress and I'm so happy she finally found what she liked and looked confident in..Helen had always suffered body dysmorphia for a very long time. Back in high school, she got bullied and called Fat Helen and then Fat Belly. It got so bad that she had to drop out.I did all I could to fight for her, that it got me Helen's spot when she dropped out. We still talk about it
ELINNAA FEW MONTHS LATER.“Do you think purple suits my skin? I'm having second thoughts about the shade?”I heard Helen grunt from the outside.“If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you were the one getting married. Why are you so worried? You know, anything suits your skin. Come out, the suspense is killing me.”I smiled as I drew the curtains back.Helen gasped as soon as she saw me.“Where did Elinna go, My queen? Elinna, your body has been taken by the most beautiful woman ever! This color is perfect, and the shade too. The way the dress hugs your body? Please, I'm sure the King will be tempted to marry you all over again.”Her commentary made me laugh but then her last statement stuck with me. I actually wanted to have my wedding again because what happened years ago was not a wedding. It was a joining of desperat
ELINNAI didn't owe anyone an explanation as to why I gave Lawrence so much authority but for the context, I just had to.A lot of people obviously thought that something was going on between Lawrence and I but they didn't realize that it was strictly platonic. As a secret to take to the grave, I made a sacrifice for Lawrence just to make sure that he was happy. When he told me that he was in love with me and that he had always been, I didn't know what to make of that. He was my best friend and he was my closest Ally. Feelings always complicated things and I knew that it was already very uncomfortable for him to have these feelings since he was supposed to be serving Carlisle and not falling for his wife.So when the Three Sisters asked me for my request, I made a simple one.“Let all his love for me turn to loyalty. And let him find happiness in another woman's arms.”That's when
