ELINNA

Ben kept to his promise and came back when he was down speaking to my dad.

“Is everything okay? What did he say?”

He didn't speak as he sat down and just stared at one spot.

“It’s nothing. Just work stuff.”

I should have known something was wrong. His smile was too tight, his eyes avoiding mine just a fraction too long. But I wanted so badly to believe in him - in us.

I placed my hand on his shoulder to get his attention.

“Are you okay?”

He pulled away slightly before catching himself. "Just pack business," he said, forcing a laugh. "Nothing for you to worry about."

The way he said it - like I was some child who couldn't handle grown-up matters - made my chest ache. But I swallowed the hurt. Maybe he was just stressed about our anniversary tomorrow.

“Let's forget about that. Tomorrow is our anniversary. Three Year anniversary. I have a surprise planned for you.” He added.

My stomach did a backflip and I couldn't keep my excitement as I clapped like a little girl.

Three years together. Three years of stolen kisses and whispered promises. Tomorrow was supposed to be special.

“Really?! A surprise for me? What is it? Tell me!”

He laughed.

“If I tell you, it won't be much of a surprise, would it?”

I thought about it.

“Screw it. Just tell me what it is.”

“Wait till tomorrow.”

I didn't have a choice. I didn't want to ruin it but at the same time, I was eager.

“Okay, I'll look forward to it.”

For the rest of the day, I couldn't get my mind off what he wanted to show me. But then I had other things to worry about.

I didn't know what to wear. I didn't even have proper clothes so I called the only person I knew could help me out in this situation.

“Helen, hey. I need your help. Ben has asked me out to dinner for our anniversary tomorrow and I don't know what to wear. I don't have anything good. I think he's going to propose.”

The way she squealed on the phone let me know that she was just as excited as I was.

“Don’t worry, I'm coming over with everything I have tomorrow and I'll make sure you look so beautiful for your proposal.”

With that in mind, I felt more at ease.

True to her words, she truly showed up with several dresses and make up.

“Okay, you're going to try all of them on and let us know which one is best.”

I began trying dresses on and even though it was tiring, I was happy because I knew that by tonight, I was going to be Ben's fiance.

“Yes! This is perfect. We're going to go with this. Now sit down so I can get your make up done. Its almost time.”

All the whole, we already started talking about wedding decorations and dresses.

Then an idea flashed through my mind.

“How about you go to the hotel first so that you'll be able to get pictures? Then I'll meet up with you later. He doesn't need to know that you're there. We're having the dinner at the roof top.”

She nodded enthusiastically.

“That’s a great idea. I'll pack up and go there now. Let me know if any updates.”

I nodded and then she left. She had made me so pretty and I didn't even recognize who I was.

It was a black floor length dress with a slit up to the thigh. It had an off the shoulder neckline with lace sleeves and it fit me perfectly.

It was almost six so I was expecting Ben's call any minute. I had made sure to do all my house work earlier so that Gina won't have any reason to call me. I didn't want her to know I was going out. If she did, she'd find some work for me.

It was now six  with no call from Ben. I tried calling him but it just kept going straight to voice mail. I quickly took off my heels so that I won't feel tired quickly.

By six-thirty, my phone remained silent.

By seven, my stomach had twisted into knots. Did he forget?

At eight, when the call finally came, my hands shook so badly I nearly dropped the phone.

"Elinna, I'm so sorry," Ben's voice was strained. "Something came up at work. I have to cancel."

The words hit like a physical blow. "Oh," I managed, my voice small. "I... I understand."

I felt my hopes dashed and my heart sink but I couldn't say anything. I knew that he would be here if he could.

“Oh, it's okay. Take-”

He ended the call just then. I sat in the room with my make up and dress, staring at a particular spot. I felt so downcast. I'd really looked forward to spending the say with him.

My phone started ringing again and I thought it was him trying to apologize but it was just Helen. I didn't want to pick it up at first but I didn't have a choice.

Before I could even say anything, she started speaking.

“Ben is such a sweetheart. You should see the big dinner he has planned for you. The roses, the lighting, everything is so pretty.”

I was confused. Ben just called to cancel.

“Helen, he said he's caught up at work. He just called me to cancel dinner.”

She paused.

“Maybe he wants to surprise you. Because I'm hiding in a corner and I can see him with the waiters getting the place ready. Why don't you come over and surprise him too?”

Why would he cancel with me and then go ahead to still make plans?

That didn't make sense.

“I think I'll come there and see for myself. Maybe you're being mistaken. Surely , he won't do a thing like that.”

I picked up my things and dashed out of the door, making a straight trip for the hotel.

I met up with Helen when I got there and to my surprise, she hadn't been joking or dreaming.

The rooftop restaurant was everything I'd dreamed of - twinkling lights, roses everywhere, a table set for two. And there he was. My Ben.

Feeding grapes to a woman. Then he leaned in and kissed her on the mouth.

The world tilted. I couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.

That wasn't the only pain. The other woman was my sister, Lily.

ELINNA“Do you think Carlisle would have noticed that we were gone by now?” We had been walking for four hours now. And I was hungry, tired and sleep deprived. To make matters worse, I didn't want to tell Lawrence that I didn't know where we were going. Initially, I did but after a while, I lost the way and right now, I think we were walking in circles. “Is it just me or does that tree look familiar?” I didn't dare turn around to look at him because I knew that we had surely passed through this place and I had lost the way. Maybe if we just keep walking around like that, we'll eventually realise where we're going. I pray we find that fast before Lawrence realizes that something is wrong. “Lawrence, is there water somewhere in your bag? My throat's getting kinda-”“Here, let me check.” I was panting heavily and my body felt like falling to the ground but I just couldn't help it. He handed me the water and I tipped my head back, downing as much as I could like a camel out in th

CARLISLEI'd just woken up when I heard a knock on my door. The book I'd been reading last night fell from my hand and I ignored it to open the door. It would most definitely be Gomez coming to tell me that we had something to do today. At this point, everyday was a weekday to me because I always had something to do. “Good morning, My King.” I was surprised to see Alex at my door but with the way he was holding his laptop, I could see the urgency in his eyes and I moved away so he could walk in. “What’s going on? What news do you have?” He set his laptop down and began to type on it and then he turned the screen to me. “Lawrence asked me to look at footage of the accident because he wanted to know who had caused the accident. He didn't think the police would take it seriously, especially with everything that's going on. I just got hands on the footage.” The footage was exactly five minutes. Halfway through the clip, my heart sank because that was when Elinna's car got stuck and

ELINNA“Lawrence-”He laughed but it wasn't coming from a place of amusement. “Scarlett, you are a wonderful person and you've shown me more love than I thought was possible. You and the King made me realize that there are still good people on earth. I just wish things were different.”As I looked into his eyes, I didn't want to believe he was saying what I thought he was saying. “Lawrence, what do you mean? What are you saying?”“In a way, I wish the King was right. He saw it coming from a mile away but I think he wanted to deny it for the sake of peace. The King will have my head if he finds out about this though. I love you, Scarlet. I love who you are behind closed doors, away from all the glam and noise. I love who you are when no one else is around. I know it's never going to happen and we're never going to get our own story but if I didn't say anything to you, I felt like I might die.” As he finished talking, I felt very dumbfounded. I'd never not known what to say before bu

ELINNAHere I was with myself at three in the morning, trying to navigate the deep woods with injuries from the car crash and a headache. After my conversation with Ice, we had both decided that it was best to take that step rather than just sitting and letting things happen. Before I left, I called Keisan and told him that I was going to be going away for a little while and they may not see me. “Where are you going?” I opened my mouth to tell him.but then I remembered that he was still a demon and that meant that he could still be manipulated. And they could still get to him. If that happened, then I was as good as dead..Then, I called Gomez and did the same thing..“You called me and told me. Why didn't you tell Carlisle?” I was silent because I didn't want to talk about what happened. It was embarrassing and I didn't know if he would take his brother's side. But of course, he already knew what happened. “Carlisle told me what happened. You know he didn't mean all those thing

CARLISLEAs I got back home, I plopped down on the couch and just tested my head. On the entire drive back here, my mind was filled with crazy thoughts that wanted to consume my insides. I knew that the accusations were insane and Elinna had assured me time and time again that she would never cheat on me. Fact was, even if she didn't, I trusted her and I knew that she surely won't cheat on me. But I couldn't deny the fact that I felt like something was going on behind the scenes and I wasn't aware of it. The fact that she had gone off with him without informing me or anyone, the way she was worried when he was unconscious which is honestly understandable and the fact that the fight that they had made her a shadow of herself..I didn't even know what the fight was about so I couldn't even take sides. They could be having relationship issues for all I knew. Pain shot through my heart as I said those words. I didn't even want to imagine it. Gomez had been standing on the stairs and l

ELINNA“The King just left and he didn't seem very happy. Is everything okay?” I didn't even bother looking him in the eye because of course, he knew everything was not okay. I didn't even know what to do. The only support I had at a time like this was now gone. How on earth would Carlisle think about something like that? Or maybe it was something that I had done that would make him feel like that. But still, I thought he trusted me. I guess right now, the only option was to run back into the arms of the man I was accused of having an affair with. “The King thinks we're having an affair.”.His facial expression drops into one of despair and fear and he takes a few steps back as if that would help anything. “H-How- Why would he think such a thing?”.I slowly stood up from the bed. “It’s nothing, forget about it. We have more important things to worry about.” I knew this issue was important too but at least, we knew that Carlisle was angry and we knew who were up against. As fo
