I am utterly perplexed. Amber is my master and, as her familiar, I would do anything to protect her. Our bond is unbreakable because of our contract and because I genuinely care for her as a friend.

But now things have changed. The little human lying on the couch is my mate, and even though she tried to kill Amber before she fell unconscious, my heart still pounds for her.

When she makes a noise in her sleep, I force myself to look away. Every instinct is telling me to pick her up and hold her in my arms. Even if she is an Alpha werewolf, she seems so vulnerable and small in my eyes. It makes me want to protect her…even if she hardly deserves that. Fuck. What is the matter with me? She is supposed to be the enemy!

“Uhh…” Ashlee sits up on the couch but pauses when she notices her handcuffs. It’s special ones that will prevent her from shape-shifting. Eris put them on her, and they are apparently magic-infused. “Where am I?”
