Chapter 2

Alpha Josh POV

He was in my office going over paperwork and plans for the Kings arrival the following evening. He heard a knock at the door then hushed talking. My Beta Al came to knock on my office and said there was a rogue girl with a baby seeking help. 'Great! Just what I need right now.'

"She is asking to speak with you, Jay. Said if you only see her, you will know who she is and she's not really rogue." Al said

Josh looked at his Beta and rolled his eyes. "I can smell she is a rogue from here. Why would me seeing her change that?"

"What would you like me to do, sir?"

"Send her on her way. I don't have time to deal with a rogue when the King will be here tomorrow." Josh says while pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

As his Beta walked out the room Josh sat back in his chair and let out a sigh. He sat there for a few minutes just pondering to himself. 'Ugh! What else could happen or go wrong before tomorrow?'

He sat up with his elbows on his desk and took another look at the list of things to get done before tomorrow.

They had all the rooms prepared. They didn't have a lot left to do. Just had to prep the meals, decorate the dining hall, and ensure the band was on time. They were never on time.

Why they had to go overboard he had no idea. He always noticed the king turned his nose up to elaborate festivities on just a routine visit.

Josh shook his head to get out of his own thoughts. He got up from his desk and made his way to the kitchen.

Once he entered everyone stopped what they were doing and waited to see what he would say.

"Where is Jane?" He asked the staff.

"In the pantry. Counting everything in preparation for the King, Alpha." The head cook mark said while point to the corner of the kitchen where the pantry is.

Josh made his way over to the pantry and opened the door. With his head down he spoke "Jane I have the list of remaining tasks for you."

Jane jumped and let out a gasp. "Alpha! You scared me! How may I help you, sir?"

He held the paper out towards her and had a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips when he spoke. "I have the list of remaining things that need to be done. I would like you to go over them and let me know if there is anything else we need to do."

Jane took the paper from his hands and scanned it over quickly. " We have already started decorating. Should be finished tomorrow morning by 10am.

The cooks and kitchen staff are already prepping the meals.

I have already told the band that if they are not here on time, I will be throwing then in the dungeon myself!" She finished that last part with a huge smile and handed the paper back to the Alpha.

"Jane... We don't have a dungeon." He said smiling.

"They don't know that." Jane said make making both laugh.

"Thank you, Jane. I don't know what I would do without you" Josh said with sincere gratitude. He then turned and walked out the kitchen back towards his office.

On the way back to the office he could still smell the rogue scent that made him let out a low growl. As he sat down in his office chair something kept nagging him about it though. She was brave to come here to ask for help. Why? No rogue in their right mind would seek an Alpha for help. So why did she?
