Author's POV

Emerald was watching outside the window of the car, smiling and admiring the peaceful streets.

"What are you looking at?"

Ruby asked her curiously.

"Nothing, just watching how peaceful life is... It's so beautiful, I don't know why people hate it... I love my life."

Emerald smiled at her, and Ruby felt so good after listening to that; she was finally living.

"And I am so excited to work."

"Just don't scare my employees away."

Ruby chuckled and asked her driver to stop.

"This is not your office."

Emerald got off after Ruby.

"I need to meet one person here. He is not giving me a sign off for the plot, he has kept me hanging between fights of him and his brother... Bastard is too cocky."

Ruby huffed and entered his office.

Emerald followed her and saw the man sitting on his chair. He was not too old but around his late forties.

"Ms Ruby, please have a seat."

Emerald sat down and watched them silently as they started talking.

"That's enough, Mr Johnson... Please sign off on the document... My money and work both are stuck because of your stubbornness..."

Ruby requested.

The man just smiled.

"I am busy, Ms Ruby... Please talk to my assistant and schedule an appointment for the sign. I need to read documents and I don't have time for that."

Emerald got up and followed Ruby out when she stormed out angrily.

"Ruby, what happened?"

"He is fucking crazy... He always does this. It's been fucking six months, my work is on hold because of him... He has read these documents, and everything is fine. We are not taking up his space, everything is measured and verified, but he has grudges with his brother, and he is taking it out on me because I accepted his job and not his."

Ruby said frustrated.

"I am tired of this shit!"

Emerald gritted angrily when her sister's eyes filled with water.

"Where do you need a sign?"

She asked, and Ruby handed her a paper.

Emerald grabbed it and went back inside. Ruby followed her, confused.

Emerald entered the office again and smiled at the man.

"I need some water!"

"Sure!"

He looked at her, confused, but offered her a glass.

Emerald smiled sweetly and hit his head with the same glass. He groaned in pain and she slammed his head on the desk.

"Scream and I'll put the remaining glass in your throat..."

She threatened as she pressed his bloody head hard against the desk.

"Sign it!"

She kept the paper in front of his eyes and forced a pen in his hand.

Ruby's mouth was hitting the ground, she was too stunned to speak because the woman in front of her was Queen, not Emerald. She didn't know she still had that in her.

The man quickly signed the paper and Emerald snatched it away from his reach. She let him go and smiled at him again.

"See what you make us girls do!"

She watched his terrified face innocently.

"You wouldn't tell this to anyone... What will people think, that two girls beat you up in your own office... I guess you have a reputation. Don't let them laugh at you."

She waved goodbye and dragged Ruby out with her, who was too stunned to speak.

"What the fuck did you just do?"

Emerald turned towards her.

"Which you couldn't do!... You are dumb, who the hell requests nowadays?"

Ruby's eyes filled with water when she saw old Emerald, who used to call her dumb and scold her. She hugged her tightly and Emerald frowned.

"Girl, what's wrong with you?"

She pushed her back.

"Don't hug me. I don't like physical affection."

"Sorry!"

Ruby stepped back.

"You are such a bitch."

Emerald flipped her hair.

"I am, so what if I don't have my memories with me... Don't worry until I am with you."

"Is this how you are going to work for me?"

Ruby asked terrified.

Emerald shrugged.

"But your work will be done..."

"God knows how I forgot that you are a villain, not a hero... God bless me!"

She huffed and sat inside the car.

"Do you have good-looking men in your office?"

She asked Ruby while fixing her hair.

"What kind of a man do you want?"

Ruby chuckled.

"I don't think anyone can handle you."

"Tall, handsome and strong... Smart and sensible... And good in bed!"

She laughed.

"Men I met have disappeared mysteriously, and I don't have any friends. Don't you feel anything for me? You'd better have a good-looking man in your office, or else I'll kill you."

Ruby laughed.

"You are such a drama queen... There are men, only if you don't scare them away..."

Emerald chuckled.

"That's their test... The one who has balls will stay... I need a man, not a boy..."

"Wish them luck!"

Ruby huffed dramatically.

Ruby was happy watching Emerald living a normal life.

Not really normal because she had become the centre of attraction in the office, a few people recognised her, but Ruby shut their mouths. Days passed and Emerald was enjoying her work.

Emerald had charmed her spell in the office, people were liking her even though she was strict with the work.

It was just Ruby who was struggling to work with her because her ways are too wild.

One day, Ruby entered her office and saw her staff wearing whatever clothes they wanted. Girls were looking like influencers.

She frowned and stopped the girl passing by her.

"What's going on here?"

"How exciting, right?"

She cheered up.

"Emerald is a bitch but she is so cool... She has discontinued the formal attire, now we can wear whatever we want... Girls are going crazy!"

Ruby sighed and went to Emerald's office.

"Oh my god! What are you doing?"

She gasped when she saw a man beaten up black and blue on the chair, his mouth stuffed with papers.

Her minions were playing with the man, hitting him with paper balls and drawing on him with markers.

Emerald was sitting on her desk and grinned when she saw Ruby.

"Ohh, you are here... We got the permission on papers!"

Ruby was flabbergasted.

"You are beating people black and blue in my office... He can sue us!"

Emerald chuckled.

"He is an attorney himself..."

Ruby gasped.

"Emerald!"

"What? He asked me for some benefits, I gave him... Now he won't ask for any."

She mocked and looked at the men she had hired to beat the man.

"Boys, show our respected attorney a way to his car... And don't forget to give him the footage of his greed."

Ruby grabbed her head, realising she still have mafia blood running through her veins. Those qualities can never leave her.

"You changed the dress code of the office?"

"Yes, it was so boring... Let people wear whatever they want... Are you a jailer or what?"

Emerald scowled and jumped down from the table.

She was breaking each and every rule possible.

"Emerald, it's called professionalism..."

"I can't recall the definition of that!"

She shrugged innocently.

"You will give me a heart attack one day."

Ruby huffed and sat down on the chair.

"You have such a weak heart."

She laughed at her.

"Anyway, my head is throbbing. I need to rest..."

She placed the pass on the desk.

"Can you attend this conference for me?"

"If you let me go to the club tonight."

She smirked.

"No!"

Ruby shook her head.

"Then no!"

Emerald threw the pass back at her.

"Emerald, clubbing and drinking are not good for you... Oh my god, this girl!"

She banged her head, frustrated, against the desk.

"Okay, fine! I'll go to the conference. Why are you so dramatic? Gosh!"

Emerald took the pass back, knowing she was troubling her sister a lot nowadays.

"Don't open your mouth there. Go, sit like a good girl, take the key points and come back. Okay?"

She pleaded.

"Don't beat up anyone in the process."

"Okay!"

She grabbed her purse and walked out.

"Good girl and me?"

She scoffed.

She went to the conference not knowing who was coming there.

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

Every stone, every hallway, every echo of that place carried the weight of what had been done to them—every wound they endured, every injustice that had carved itself into their story. Without Emerald beside him, the castle had become a living ghost, suffocating him with memories he wasn’t strong enough to face.So he had walked away.Yet today, he stood in front of it again. The familiar walls stared back at him like they recognised him—like they remembered the man who once ruled them. And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
