BaoBao warned Alice of the attacks from above, instantly calculated probabilities and rates, then concluded that Violet would not escaped unscathed even with Ethan's protection and Violet's fire ability. Alice chose to accept death, then threw Violet back using her water ability.
Ethan witnessed Alice's death with wide disbelieving eyes. Numerous icicles and spears impaled her. Parts of her were cut off by swords. Tears had already begun to flow before his brain has registered her death.
His heart wrenched as the gory sight consumed his mind. It somehow felt like a painfully familiar scene. His voice that felt stuck in his throat, gradually came out as strangled moans, before he yelled out loud in agony. His eyes became blood shot red, and power surged from his body. It broke him free of the force that had been controlling his body.
He roughly pushed Violet off of him and scrambled to Alice's mangled body. He ran through and broke any spears and weapons that were in his way. He fell to his knees by her side and shook his head in denial slowly. He reached out to her half-intact face but attacks flew towards them again.
His hand froze in place as rage filled him and rampaged within him. /They dared to hurt her! My Alice!!!/
He clenched his outstretched hand into a fist.
Just as Stephan prepared to counter the attacks again, strong winds blasted through the entire area, so strong that Stephan had to hold onto Violet and use his ice ability to anchor themselves to the ground.
Ethan activated his wind ability to throw everyone up high in the sky, including Rosalyn. Ethan's opponent from earlier and Rosalyn were thoroughly shocked that they could not counter his wind at all, resulting in them losing total control over their bodies. Upon this realisation, they got slammed down into ground at a high speed that broke all their bones in their body. Everyone passed out in pain.
Ethan turned his head to glare at the remaining Blessings on the ground with his bloodshot eyes. He hurled countless water slicers at them. He did not stop even when they became minced meat. Only when the ground got churned up with their flesh and bones and there was no sign of their existence did Ethan turn his focus to Rosalyn.
Ethan withdrew his hand back to his side and slowly made his way to Rosalyn. She was the only one he spared by controlling the force of her fall to result in numerous fractures throughout her body. Ethan trapped her head in a water bubble to wake her up.
Rosalyn woke up to intense pain and suffocation. Just before she drowned, she was released from the bubble. However, she was not given a break. While she was still coughing out water, she felt her forehead and legs being grazed by several sharp things. It was not as painful as her fractured body but it was still painful.
She then felt something impale her right thigh in an agonizingly slow speed. She shrieked. She wanted to know what was the cause of her pain but it was too painful to even move. She could only see a pair of feet in front of her. So, she weakly pleaded, "Please, help... Me..."
Ethan did not bother to reply her and proceeded on to impale her shoulder in the same manner. He did not take a break and immediately moved on to using a dull ice sword to saw through her knees one at a time.
By now, Rosalyn's muddled mind cleared up and she realised what was happening to her.
After she lost her legs, snot and tears already covered her face. "Who are you?! Why are you doing this to me?!"
"You made the wrong decision." He started to manipulate a dull ice spear to slowly pierce through her right arm. It pressed against her skin with a gradual growing pressure before it broke through her skin, broke her bone, and came out from the other side. It was slow enough for Rosalyn to feel every little sensation of the spear piercing and sliding through her arm. Not only was it physically torturing, it was also mentally torturing. She shrieked the whole time and begged him to stop. She had had enough of being pierced at this agonisingly slow speed.
Ethan moved on to her left arm with her pleas falling on deaf ears.
He then went on to her left thigh. By now, she was ignoring the pain from falling from a great height and shaking her head vigorously while crying out loud.
"You could have killed anyone else but her." He positioned the next spears above her forearms.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please just give a a quick dea- Ahhhhh!!!"
"A quick death? I have to make you feel the pain she went through... Many times more..."
"No!! Please... Please... Please have mercy!" But Ethan went ahead and pierced through her other shoulder.
"You didn't seem to have any for Alice." Ethan said coldly as he created the next spear for use.
"I'll make it up to Alice when I'm on the other side! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Let me off- Ahhhh!" She felt her stomach pierced through the middle of her back. The breaking of her spine made her lose the feelings she had in her bottom half of the body.
Ethan squatted down and tilted his head to look at her dead in the eyes. It shocked Rosalyn to the core. His eyes were wide, unblinking, and filled with derision and hate. "Don't say her name. You're defiling it." As he said the last sentence, she saw from the corner of her eyes that a spear was coming dangerously close to her cheek. She went into full blown panic and screamed, "NOOOO!! PLEASE! STOP!"
He ignored her cries and forcefully pierced through her cheeks, breaking her jaw in the process of it. Rosalyn felt her mind break along with her jaw. She now laid there in a motionless and semiconscious state. Tears kept running from her red sore eyes as if her tear duct was broken. Blood covered the ground as it continued to flow from her wounds.
Ethan stood back up and waited until she was on the brink of death from bleeding out before creating a vacuum bubble around her body.
When Ethan started Rosalyn's torture, Violet shivered in fear. Ethan's ruthlessness scared her, but she knew that Rosalyn asked for it. Besides, she believed that there was nothing she could say or do to stop Ethan at this moment. Ethan looked almost unrecognisable to her at this very moment. Her heart ached with guilt and sorrow at the loss of Alice. When Stephan saw her tearing up and was in extreme discomfort, he hugged her tightly. Violet responded by burying her head into his chest and covering her ears.
Stephan looked at Ethan with cold but sad eyes. He also found Ethan's ways overbearingly torturous and had not expected Ethan to feel so strongly for Alice. However, he could not judge or blame him because he could empathise with Ethan. He knew that he would do the same if Violet was in Alice's place.
When the torture was complete, Stephan watched Ethan make his way back to Alice with heavy steps.
Ethan went onto his knees beside Alice's body. Gaping wounds littered her body since the ice dissipated. He brought his trembling hand to her ruined face once again. The back of his fingers lightly brushed against her half intact left cheek. It was as if the fact that Alice has died finally sunk in as renewed tears began flowed uncontrollably.
"I'm sorry." He choked out. His heart and guts felt wrenched together. "I'm sorry..." He withdrew his hand from Alice's face and crouched down low to place his forehead against the ground. Suddenly, he punched the ground with his hands which caused cracks to spread through the ground in a large area.
He lifted his face to the sky and yelled in agony.
He recalled how he had fought so hard with himself to get to Alice's side. "Why?!!!" His voice was filled with anguish.
/If I had broken free a moment sooner, I may have been able to save her.../
"Alice... Alice!!!"
/I want to see your smile again! I want to practice with you day in and day out! I want you by my side! I already miss you.../
He made a silent oath as he screamed again in agony.
/I promise to find you again in my next life! I'll never stop fighting to protect you! I'll fight myself if I have to! I'll fight against the heavens if I have to!/
Standing by the side, tears fell from Violet's eyes as her body trembled from her silent sobs. Stephan continued to hold her in his arms with his face twisted in pain.
The exam concluded. Because of that huge fight, it was the first time there were very few survivors. News about Alice's death travelled and reached her hometown. Not wanting Alice's life to go in vain, the king used this opportunity to shake everyone's belief in the current state of affairs.
Ethan obtained permission from all relevant parties to bury Alice's remains at the spot where they spent the most time together. From then on, it became his personal training spot. Everyone learnt through the hard way to not get too close to that area unless they wished to incur his wrath.
Years passed.
Other countries that knew of Violet's tragic generation had spent the years planning and waiting to attack, thinking that this was their golden chance. Instead, this gave Ethan's family a chance to shine with their superior physical and magical abilities. It was indeed a one sided massacre, except with an unexpected ending. This war, coupled with Ethan's family supporting the king's belief, drew more people onto the kinder path. It was the first step towards building a more compassionate society.
Ethan, however, remained unmoved. He felt that it was all meaningless. It all came too late. He sat by Alice's grave, spacing out with a sullen look, reminiscing about their past again.
Finally, he looked down and gently brushed the soil like he was caressing Alice's face. "All these are only possible thanks to you..." He whispered. Tears welled up in his eyes. "If only you were here to witness it... I miss you..."
"Luna? ...Luna? Are you okay?" Luna kept her eyes closed and her face was slightly pale. The pain of dying had been intense this time round and she felt that it was truly quite a horrifying way to die. She'd rather bleed out like she did in her original world and in the previous world. "...Luna?" BaoBao was slightly worried. /I'm fine. Just... give me a while./ BaoBao kept quiet and let Luna rest. He knew how weary she must be feeling since she still talked to him telepathically. Luna drifted off to sleep. Around 2 hours later, she woke up to find herself in darkness. She was momentarily confused until she remembered that she had died. BaoBao appeared by her side the moment he knew that she was awake. "Luna? Feeling better?" Luna nodded. "How did this world go?" "You avoided forging a friendship with Violet and the others where the original soul was completely dependent on them. You avoided being the on
Luna woke up feeling incredibly weak. Her lips were dry. Her throat was parched. Her stomach hurt and growled at the same time. She laid crumpled on her side near a big tree. The surroundings were vibrantly green and warm sun rays filtered through the dense canopy. /Am I.../ Her stomach growled and hurt at the same time again. /Actually dying from starvation?/ Yet another sharp pain coursed through her through her stomach. /When was the last time this person ate...?/ With that, BaoBao quickly transferred all of the original soul's memories into her. The original soul was born as a white rabbit shapeshifter in a peaceful and quiet village filled with herbivores. She was named BaiXue due to her snow white fur. They have low fighting capabilities but excelled in escaping, especially when they were in their animal forms. The original soul had 4 other siblings, half of them were also rabbit shapeshifters, while the other ha
[FenFang is approaching.] BaoBao informed BaiXue. /At this time? If they were predestined to meet and FenFang was the one who nursed the original soul... I can already see how this would pan out and disrupt her revenge plans./ BaiXue frowned. /No wonder this original soul needed help./ She looked in the direction that FenFang would be coming from. Perhaps she could learn something new from FenFang that the book did not contain. So, she stayed where she was. After a short while, a young elegant beauty emerged from the plants. Her long luscious creamy white hair and sky blue robes swayed gently in the refreshing breeze. Her deep dark brown eyes immediately locked on to BaiXue. Even in her rush towards BaiXue, she looked as glamourous as ever. "What happened? How are you?" Her voice sounded like clear gentle bells. BaiXue looked at her flatly. "...Food." Her voice was weak, and she panted, as if talking itself took a lot ou
Over the next few weeks, BaiXue followed the foxes for them to show her the ropes, before she would be allowed to act on her own. They showed her the locations of various villages and the fastest routes to take. They also put her through self-defense training, but it was minimal and far below her personal standards. BaiXue was slightly taken aback by the area that was under their radar. The foxes knew of villages in the entire forest, all the way out to the coast. The nearer ones took them less than a day to reach. The furthest ones tooks days for them to reach. Still, there was no sign of the female lead's village. BaiXue wondered if it laid beyond the mountain that was on the other end of this forest. They had never tried to cross the mountains before, even though it was around FenFang's dwelling. The mountain was treacherous to cross and had stronger people living on it. The foxes did not want to take the risk for FenFang. BaiXue realised that the original s
BaiXue changed into her rabbit form to pretend to be another normal animal in the forest as the mob walked past the foliage she was hiding among. "Are you really planning to let them be?" The paranoid woman asked the man who seemed to be leading the rest. "Of course not, how can we let such a dangerous thing live and threaten our peace?" As the mob left the area, BaiXue hopped closer to the hut to check on the family. The father was trying to comfort the crying mother in his arms while the pretty baby looked at her parents with confused teary eyes. BaiXue hopped back to her camp. /It was not made clear in the book but it seems that this may be the norm for people who change into mystical creatures. MengYao and FenFang were not the exceptions. FengJiao and her village were the odd ones./ [The world's consciousness fill in all the missing details of the book to make it a complete world.] BaoBao explained w
BaiXue caught up to the family in no time then led them to her hideout. "Thank you for helping us but... Are you sure that it's safe so close to the village?" The father could not help but ask. "Sometimes the most dangerous place can be the safest place to hide at." BaiXue explained. Besides, she was confident in the spot that she chose. It was close enough to the village to be considered as a part of the village territory but far enough for people to not bother walking through. "Who are you? Why're you helping us?" The mother asked. "Someone else wanted to offer their help but could not so here I am." She did not want to reveal the existence of the writing to anyone else but did not want to lie to good-natured people, so she said it in such a way. "How long do we have to hide here for?" The father asked again. "Until someone strong arrives." She left it at that and closed her eyes to relax against a tree. Although she looked like she
She left when the moon hung high up in the sky. She ran without stopping. The moon eventually descended and the sun took its place by the time BaiXue reached the rock dwelling. While BaiXue dutifully reported all relevant information to FenFang, BaiXue caught the little changes in FenFang's expression that indicated some surprise and newfound understanding. /She knew that there was something fishy with that village. How? Why?/ BaiXue wondered to herself. "So you know where his loved ones are held at?" FenFang clarified. BiaXue nodded. "Go. Summon MengYao and save the family at the right time." BaiXue immediately took off to do as instructed without bothering to take a rest. She needed to gain FenFang's trust as quickly as possible. She wanted to hasten her trip to the mountains. After all these time, she had only found one other clue and it was at another coastal village with high rock formations. Similar
Upon reaching the mountains, she easily noticed the difference between exploring the mountains and the forest. Naturally, the animals that lived on the mountains were different from those in the forest. It was also much easier to run into animals or people living here. /The original soul could cross successfully? She must have learnt to be really stealthy from all the errands she ran for FenFang, by the time she was tasked to cross the mountain./ BaiXue commented with a slightly impressed tone. Although it might have been a problem for the original soul, it proved to be no problem for BaiXue, thanks to her speed and BaoBao's surveillance. She avoided any encounters with people or real animals and scaled the mountain easily while inspecting it. When she found nothing, she started to lure animals away from their t
