LOGINIVARA
“He wouldn’t let me into his manor, yet he brought this thing here and even gave her a room? Who the hell is she?”
The rants and screams filtering into my ear forced me awake. I stirred, my eyes fluttering open and the first thing I saw was the face towering over mine while staring at me in curiosity.
Our eyes went wide at the same time and then a loud scream erupted from our lips.
The lady towering over me stumbled back while I fell off the bed, frightened by that rare view.
I was finally able to take in the woman’s features. Black curly hair, held up in a bun, brown eyes and a really pretty round face… she reeked of what I would call old money.
“Who are you and why were you looking at me like that?” I asked, my breath heavy.
The lady tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, trying to regain composure. “What way?”
“Like… some artefacts…” I trailed off, my eyes wandering about and with each look, my eyes kept widening.
“The auction tonight! You've got a wild streak, Ivara. I'm taking this slave.” The memories slowly began creeping into my head. Realization dawned on me and I jolted, panic surging through me.
The last thing I could recall was being at the auction hall, then Alpha Xlynor entering. Somehow he looked exactly like the man in my dreams. In fact, it certainly was him. Then the bidding and him taking me.
“No, no, no…” The words tore out of me as I stared around in horror. It couldn't be! I didn't literally go from frying pan to fire?
Suddenly, the world blurred as if it was only me present. I brought my nails down to my skin. This had to be a dream. I couldn't possibly be sold to a Dark Hounder… not a dark Hounder, their deranged Alpha!
But it was true. The bigger and more elegant room proved it. The maids scattered around this room for reasons best known to them proved it and the lady? Fuck it!
Tears burned at the corner of my eyes as I stumbled to my feet, my legs wobbling and my heart thudding loudly.
Hell? Torment? Misery? Death? I couldn't tell what exactly awaited me in Dark Hound, but it certainly was going to be one of the above.
I shivered at the thought.
From the rumors I had heard about Dark Hound, my life was going to get worse. Worse? There was a possibility I was going to die today!
I swallowed hard, my fingers trembling as I began staggering towards the only thing that made sense to me… the door.
“Where are you going? Stop, you can't leave.” I heard the maids speak, but nothing they said mattered to me. All I wanted was to leave here.
Seeing I paid no heed to their words, they began rushing after me. I didn't know who had pulled my arm, but it seemed to be Mrs Old Money. I didn't care either way, I shoved her hard then continued my rushed staggering.
My hands trembled as I held the doorknob and turned it gently. To my surprise, it opened. I released the breath I didn't know I was holding. I’d feared it was locked.
I stumbled out of the room, holding the door for support while I stared at the huge wall of the Manor.
The imposing stone walls were adorned with gleaming diamond accents that seemed to shimmer.
The scent of old wood, smoke, and the faint tang of blood filled the air, causing my stomach to churn.
This was all proof that I was really at Dark Hound! Fvcking Dark Hound!
My vision was beginning to clear with my energy replenishing.
I gulped hard while stumbling backwards, my eyes refusing to leave the wall. It would've been better if Prince Eryndor had gotten me. I had heard nice rumors about him. He wasn't like the rest of his pack.
Of course, Xlynor looked the same as the man in my dreams, even the tattoo, but they weren't the same. My Kerion was calmer, sweeter, totally different.
Suddenly, my back met something hard and a bit fleshy, my breath caught in my throat.
I knew that scent… the same scent that overwhelmed me before I collapsed.
I refused to turn my head, hoping it really wasn't who I thought it was, but who was I kidding?
“Move!” The deep husky voice resounded in my head.
I flinched then stepped away, my hands on my chest.
Alpha Xlynor stood there, his poker hardened face glaring hard at me.
“I see you're awake,” he muttered under his breath, glancing at the room I just left.
I didn't reply, I instead began taking slow, fearful steps backwards.
The man behind Alpha Xlynor, probably his guard, stepped forward but just the tilt of Alpha Xlynor's head was enough to make him freeze.
“You're not about to run, are you?” Alpha Xlynor murmured, his droopy eyes boring holes into my skin.
Just like a reminder, I spun around then did the one thing I shouldn't have. I ran. No place in mind, no idea of where I was headed, just doing the best I could to survive my ill luck.
My legs moved the fastest they had ever done since I was born, while my pulse raced so hard that I could hear it. Surprisingly, nobody came after me, not even Alpha Xlynor, which I was grateful for.
I came to a halt when I met a dead end… actually, a balcony.
“I guess you'd have to turn around, Shenka.” I heard Alpha Xlynor's voice from behind me.
I flinched, looking over my shoulders. He didn't run after me. How was he here?
He had his back against the wall, his eyes on his fingers like a lady who had just had her nails done and was admiring it.
If I wasn't the only one there, I would've doubted he was actually speaking to me because he seemed uninterested. Didn't even spare me a glance.
I leaned closer to the balcony, then looked down. It was quite high, and I began calculating the chances of my survival if I jumped and if I didn't.
I glanced at Xlynor. He still maintained his nonchalance, probably believing that I wasn't going to jump.
I stared down at the balcony once more. Jumping wasn't the problem, the chances of survival was.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you,” I heard him scoff. “This is Dark Hound, not your useless pack. How far do you think you can run? It's useless, and I suggest you quit that idea.”
I didn't care. My thoughts were too clouded by survival for me to think rationally.
I lifted the hem of my dress, freeing my legs, then, without warning, I jumped over the balcony.
Xlynor’s POVThe deeper we walked into the dungeon corridors, the colder the air became.Zane led the way, our footsteps echoing against the damp stone as we made our way forward. Zane wore a grim expression while I stared blankly ahead.“Alpha.” The guards stationed along the paths bowed their heads respectfully as we passed, murmuring greetings.I only gave slight nods before continuing forward. We finally stopped in front of one of the reinforced cells. Zane stepped forward and pressed his hand against the scanner, then punched in some keys before stepping back.A click echoed through the hall as the first lock disengaged. Then another mechanism activated beneath the floor, before the heavy door hissed open. The second we stepped inside, I knew she wasn’t who I was looking for.My gaze settled on the woman kneeling in the center of the cell, her head bowed, silver hair cascading over her face like a curtain. Her wrists were chained behind her back with silver manacles. She looked fr
Ivara's POV“Stop it, Ivara. Stop. You’ll kill him, and I know that’s not your intention.” Elodie grabbed me from behind and dragged me away.I dropped the stool, breathing hard. I didn’t even realize I was crying until I felt the tears.Eryndor lay unmoving on the floor, bleeding from the side of his head, and for one terrifying second, I thought I had actually killed him.How could the man I once trusted—the one I foolishly saw as a brother—turn into a monster right before my eyes? The betrayal cut deeper than I expected.A broken sound escaped my throat as tears blurred my vision. It was then that it dawned on me. Nobody was to be trusted in Dark Hound. Not even yourself.“Elodie…” I whispered shakily, and she immediately pulled me into her arms despite her own injuries. Her split lip was still bleeding, and she had a bruised jaw and a cut on her cheek.“We don’t have much time,” she whispered while rubbing my hair. “We need to leave now.”I sniffled. “The hunt already started, ther
Ivara's POV“You don’t want to go with me? That’s strange. You used to want to try things with me, so what changed?” Eryndor’s voice lowered dangerously as he advanced toward me.I immediately stepped back. “Why do you still insist even after I said no? It doesn't sound right.”My back met the cold glass wall. “Don’t come any closer. Xlynor will be coming back soon,” I warned. My pulse spiked as Eryndor closed the remaining distance between us, then lifted my chin with his fingers. The touch made my skin crawl, and I had no idea when I hit him across the face. “Stay away from me,” I hissed. “I mean it. Leave!”Shock flashed across his face, then it was quickly replaced by cold fury. Before I could move far, he sped forward in a blur, grabbed a fistful of my hair, and yanked my head back.“How dare you? Did you forget who you’re talking to?” he snarled. “Did you dare mistake my friendliness for stupidity? How dare you hit me?” he asked through gritted teeth. My eyes watered from the pa
Ivara's POVI thrashed wildly, twisting and struggling against the grip holding me from behind and trying to alert anyone. When that didn’t work, I sank my teeth hard into the palm over my lips.A sharp hiss sounded behind me, followed by a muffled curse as the hand jerked away.Just as I drew in a breath to scream, thick black smoke swallowed us whole, the world spun violently before the fog cleared.Even then, I couldn’t move. My heart hammered against my chest. “Xly… Xlynor?”The second he released me, I spun around so quickly I nearly lost my balance.Xlynor stood there, wincing as he flexed his bitten palm. “Are you an animal? Why the hell would you bite me?”Tears stung the corners of my eyes at that realization. I had genuinely thought I was being kidnapped, and my fear had blinded me so completely that I hadn’t even recognized Xlynor's scent or presence.“Why would you just approach me like that?” I snapped, my voice trembling. “How was I supposed to know it was you?”“You wer
Ivara's POVI couldn’t take it anymore. The strange aura of the men was choking, and it made my stomach twist painfully. I stood up, so abruptly my chair scraped harshly against the floor.“We need some air, Zane.” I muttered, trying to slip away through the only free path on Zane’s side. But the moment I stood and walked towards it, another tall man started walking straight toward me, his eyes locked on me with unsettling intensity.I stepped back, fear spiking inside me. The way they were all staring at me… it wasn’t admiration. It felt like I was prey.Zane must have sensed the tension, because he was on his feet in an instant. He gently pushed me behind him and stepped forward, blocking the man who had cornered me.“You’ve got a problem?” Zane growled. The stranger smiled, raising both arms. “Just wanted to take the seat next to you.”He was lying. I could feel it in my bones. These people had come here deliberately.I pinched Zane’s side lightly, signaling him to leave. At that e
Ivara's POVIt was the night of the Wolf Hunt, and Xlynor was taking me to the festival just like he said. I sat still in front of the tall mirror, my heart fluttering as the maid worked behind me, her fingers cautious as she pinned the last strand of my hair into place. She had styled it into an elegant royal crown updo— braids woven together and tiny black jewels that caught the light. A few soft strands framed my face.My makeup was light—smoky dark eyes, long lashes, and deep red lips that made my pale skin glow. And my gown was floor-length, a daring slit up one leg, with a fitted bodice that accentuated my curves, and chains that draped across it.Xlynor had personally picked everything I wore, so it was all black, but in the most beautiful way. He also sent the maid over to help me get ready.“I think we're done, Miss.” The maid bowed while I nodded for her to leave.I stood, and my gaze traveled across my dress and damn, I looked beautiful… like some dark princess.I turned to
Xlynor's POVEryndor turned at the sound of my laughter, his face twisted.“You sent her to the woods because you thought I was going to get her back when I heard it? Silly you. You think I care about her? I'm only here because of the audacity you had to enter the slave camp and take her. But then,
Ivara's POVI spun around, then fell to the floor in shock. Why did that sound a lot like Xlynor? Like he was behind me. And it sounded way too real. Was I beginning to get delusional? He wasn’t here, was he?The lights came on and my breath hitched. How did that happen? Did I mistakenly trigger som
Ivara's POVI couldn't explain how things escalated so fast. One second, I was enjoying my short freedom; the next, I was caught between trying to escape Dark Hound one more time or staying back.I stepped closer to Eryndor, my eyes blurred by tears. “Why? Why would you do this? Why would you risk y
Xlynor's POV“Escape? This is Dark Hound. It’s impossible. No.” The voice of that silver-haired kept echoing, over and over in my head.“Shut the fuck up! The fuck?” I didn't know when the words escaped my lips as my eyes snapped open, and I sat up straight.Damn it! I rubbed my temple in frustratio
