Some weeks later

Angelo’s POV

“Boss we have to evacuate the building” Enzo called out to me, helping me walk out of the warehouse that had just been blasted by a mini bomb and most of my men killed after being shot at.

In my kind of business, getting attacked and almost killed is a thing of normalcy unless you have no foes, which is nearly impossible.

Coming here, I hoped to close a long time business deal with one of my foreign distributors but it seems like we were given the wrong information concerning the location or the foreign distributor just want to have us killed.

“I can walk down there” I winced, a tiny bullet had grazed the side of my torso but then again it is nothing compared to what I have faced before. “Just let me walk alone” I said again to Enzo but he is hell bent on supporting me to the car.

“We have to leave before the securities arrives” Enzo replied still dragging my body weight alongside his.

“They work for us, Enzo.. don’t you forget that” I replied

We finally got to the car after what felt like hours, Enzo helped me in, while he took the driver’s seat speeding away. I had lost a handful of my men due to the blast and I and Enzo had just miraculously made it out alive. Whoever launched the attack was after my life and I could not count this as another wrong operation.

“Where is Roberto?” I asked, wincing in pain while I clutch my dudes trying to suppress the pains I was feeling.

Enzo stared at me through the rear view with worries written all over his face, he had successfully overtaken more than five cars on the road, driving on the highest spear there is but even at that it still feels like he wasn’t fast enough because with each time passing, the pain grows worse.

“I saw him leaving the moment the shooting started “ Enzo replied overtaking another vehicle again.

“He left?” I asked “he left in the middle of an attack” I said again in total disbelief.

Roberto is my half brother and the only reason why I had let him into the family business is because before Pa Rossi died, he had made me promise to take him along even though he was an illegitimate child of my father and hearing that he left after pleading to be part of the inner operations left me amazed.

“I have always known he didn’t have the heart for it but he kept on pleading to be amongst us” i sucked my teeth with a little bit of irritation tasting the metallic taste of blood on my tongue.

“He took the shipment with him” Enzo revealed.

He might not have the heart for the business but at least he has the sense to secure the goods. I nodded my head in approval while I continue to suppress the pain that I got from the bullet wound.

*********

Few days later

I stared at Mrs Scardoni’s widow from across the table, the woman did not look like she was mourning but that is none of my business because, all I wanted was for her to give me a detailed analysis of how she is going to pay the funds I had loaned to her husband before his death.

I am not heartless, I give to the helpless when need be but this lady does not look like a helpless widow in need of help “so what are you saying about the money?” I questioned her raising an eye brow.

“My husband is dead….”

“I know that already, the whole city is aware of the death of your husband so I do not see the need of repeating that information here over again” I cut her off not willing to hear any excuse from her.

“We do not have the money” she said finally, looking away.

“You do not have the money..” I repeated slowly “you do not have the money or you do not wish to look for a means to pay up what you owe” I growled making her panic.

Her body movements had gone from being calm and collated to becoming shaky. She was now almost on her knees “I do not like ladies kneeling down in front of me” I said smoothly sipping a glass of whiskey that was in front of me.

“Let’s talk” I cleared my throat, intertwining my fingers on the table while she adjusts her outfit “how do you plan on refunding the loan your husband took from me ? I am very sure you did not come all the way here to just tell me tales” I said watching her movements.

“My daughter could work for you to pay off the debt we owe” she pleaded.

“… and then what happens to the other people you owe?” I ask but she remained silent “does she also have to work for them too, sharing her body into bits just to pay off the loan”

“I have a better preposition for you” I took another sip of whiskey “the proposition is, I get married to your daughter while I clear the debt of everyone your family owes but she has to agree to it because I will not force her hand in marriage”

Mrs Scardoni smiled widely after hearing the preposition, I know it is not what she expected but at least it is better than the deal she brought to me “my daughter will not have a reason to say no to you” she replied.

“Okay then, when you are done communicating the details with your daughter contact me” I said taking a final gulp from the glass of whiskey and then I handed her a private card leading to one of my many buildings in town which also had the address on it.

Just as she is about to leave my office, Roberto walks in staring at her blankly. He struts into the office and then takes a seat on one of the chairs. “I didn’t know you now go for older women” he said sounding stupid but I waved him aside not willing to bother myself with whatever high he was on.

Milene’s POV"Did you kill him?"My voice trembled as I stood,my hands shaking. He had , just before reaching for the door. Silence filled the space between us.He didn’t turn immediately."He betrayed me," Angelo said at last, without looking over his shoulder. The words dropped like a blade. That was it. No denial. No explanation. Just those three damning words. He turned his head slightly, just enough for me to see a bit of his expression, unreadable. Cold even."Milene, there are things in this world you don't understand," he said softly. "Things I do to keep people in line. To keep you safe.""Safe?" I spat, the word bitter on my tongue. "You think killing someone makes me feel safe?""It makes sure no one crosses me again. No one touches what’s mine."And there it was again. What’s mine.As if I were just another object in his collection. A trophy wife, bought and shelved."He was a traitor," he added, voice low, almost too calm. "That’s what happens to people like him I

Angelo POV “You know what comes next after the lord” I start laughing The man shivering in front of me “I really did deliver it...” “Why didn’t they see it” I roared “This is exactly what betrayal looks like” the fool keeps staring at me like loyalty alone can save him but loyalty without action or result is nothing “Enzo give me …” I say and immediately I was handed my gun “I swear, please I swear on my lif..” “Don’t bother to swear on your life” I cut him off. “You don’t have that anymore” he starts talking and blabbering, I think something about having a wife and family or something, it doesn’t matter. Bang. “Clean up this area” I said flatly and immediately, my men start cleaning the area, dragging the blood covered body out of the room, they are used to this already, they know where exactly to bury the bodies or burn if necessary “Enzo” I called, not turning to look, I didn’t need to. “I want a detailed report on how the gem got missing” ‘Yes boss’, he replied immediate

  • Auctioned to the mafia land   Chapter 8

Milene’s POVDisappointed.. that is the word to describe my current situation. Pretending like I knew what was going on while trying to figure things out is one of the hardest stunts to pull. The rumbling of my tummy reminded me about breakfast. Mara had long left me, so I had to make my way to the dinning which was not hard to find. I met one of the workers setting the cutleries in the dining room.I made my way to one of the seats while she continued “Breakfast would be served shortly..” she said. After breakfast, I decided to clear my head. The walls of my room were starting to feel too tight, too close. I needed to move, breathe, think.Mara had reminded me of the meeting with Carlo. So I needed to go see him at the garden, but instead of heading there, I decided to just wander around the hallways, tryung to figure out the maze like building myself until I eventually got lost.At first, I thought I could find my way back easily. But every hallway looked identical with gold accents

  • Auctioned to the mafia land   Chapter 7

Milene’s POVThe soft morning light filtered into my room, but I didn’t feel rested. I had barely slept too much on my mind, too many questions. What exactly had mum gotten us into or should I say me?A knock on the door jolted me out of bed. Before I could answer, Mara stepped in.“Mr. Moretti requests your presence downstairs,” she said. “He wants to introduce you to the staff.”Introduce me?I nodded silently and slipped into the clothes, she laid out a simple white blouse and tailored black slacks. It was modest but expensive. My hands traced the lines of the stitch and from it I felt out of place. I am supposed to be used to clothings like this but I had long abandoned them because of the debts. I could also so I wore more tailored clothes like this to tea parties than I did roaming around my father’s mansion.Mara led me through the hallways again, I followed her close and the sound of our steps echoed in the hallways. As we entered the main foyer, I saw them, the staff. Lined u

  • Auctioned to the mafia land   Chapter 6

Milene’s POVThe silence inside the car was heavy, almost suffocating. Angelo sat beside me, typing something on his phone with an intensity that made it clear he was used to being in control of everything.I kept my gaze out the window, watching the city blur past. The farther we went, the fewer buildings I recognized. The streetlights became sparse, and the roads smoother, more private. My mother’s words echoed in my head: “He’ll bring you home after the event.” But something in my gut said that wasn’t entirely true.“Are you hungry?” he asked suddenly.I startled, looking at him. “No,” I replied too quickly. My voice sounded thin.He gave me a brief look — unreadable — then tapped on the console in front of him. “Stop at Le Doré. Pick up dinner,” he told the driver.“Yes, sir.”I folded my arms, trying to steady myself. “Where are we going?”“To my house. For now.”“For now?” My fingers curled into my dress. “My mother said I needed to go with you to an event.”He tilted his head,

  • Auctioned to the mafia land   Chapter 5

Milene’s POVWhat is he talking about? I looked at my mother for answers but she turned away smiling widely at this stranger whose name seemed familiar but sketchy.“Go with him to where?” I whispered to my mother but she just ignored me but I could swear that she heard me. I should have known that there was something wrong when I walked passed the doors and then saw how empty the place was, I should have known that there was something sketchy when the guards in the compound were more than the cars parked in it.“Why is he asking if I am ready to go with him?” I asked again but this time around my voice is a little bit audible and my mother finally spared me a look, I could also feel the gaze from the stranger.“I told you to talk this over with her before coming here, thought my words were clear enough” he barked sending chills down my spine..“I ...I did” my mum stutteredI have never heard my mum sound this scared or even stutter “I think she is acting up because she is nervous” sh
