SALOME

The sound of glass shattering against the wall made me jump, but I kept my eyes glued to the floor.

It was a heavy glass whiskey bottle. Luna Mariam had aimed straight for Alpha Williams's head, but luckily for him, he was able to dodge it. The bottle missed him by two inches and scattered all over the hardwood floor, sending sharp, glittering shards everywhere.

Still, Alpha Williams Sphere said nothing. He just stood there, wiping a stray drop of liquor from his cheek, his face completely blank.

I stood in the corner of the grand living room, holding my tray tight against my chest. My heart was hammering, but I forced my breathing to stay steady. As a maid in the Alpha's palace, I had learned to mind my business even when there was a brutal fight going on between the Alpha and his wife. If you want to survive in this pack house, you become invisible.

But honestly? Inside my head, I was reeling. Luna Mariam was incredibly violent. She was always hitting him with hard objects, throwing vases, books, chairs—whatever she could get her hands on. And I still wondered why they were still together.

No, the Alpha is not a weak man. I knew that for a fact. I could tell from the way he shouted at the soldiers during training, making grown men tremble. I saw the way he controlled the entire Northern Pack with just a growl. He went to wars and stayed in the middle of it all, fighting on the front lines without a single hint of fear. So he was definitely not weak. That was why it shocked me so much why he allowed Luna Mariam to treat him so bad. Any other Alpha would have locked a mate like her in the dungeons, or at least roared her into submission. Williams just took it.

"You need to end the hockey game!" Mariam screamed, her voice cracking with pure rage. She stepped into his space, her chest heaving, pointing a manicured finger at his chest. "Stop playing hockey! It is affecting our marriage! You care more about that stupid puck and the Blackwood Alphas than your own pack. Than me!"

Well, that was the excuse she gave for today's violence. Every day had its own reason. Yesterday, it was because he returned from the pack borders too late. The day before, it was because he hadn't tasted the dinner she ordered the cooks to make.

Alpha Williams closed his eyes for a brief second, inhaling deeply. When he opened them, he didn't look at his wife. He looked across the room, straight at me. His voice was calm, deep, and completely steady, hiding the storm that must have been raging inside his wolf.

"Clear this mess, Salome," Alpha Williams ordered.

"Yes, Alpha," I whispered.

I immediately moved closer to do it. I knelt down near his boots, carefully picking up the largest pieces of the shattered whiskey bottle, trying to ignore the thick tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Mariam was panting above us, her face red, looking down at her husband with sheer disgust because he refused to yell back at her.

"Are you ignoring me, Williams?" she hissed, her voice dropping to a dangerous, low purr. "I am talking to you! Look at me!"

Williams didn't move. He kept his arms crossed over his broad chest. "We will discuss this in the office, Mariam. Not in front of the staff."

"No! We will discuss it now!"

I saw her arm blur in my peripheral vision. She reached for the side table, grabbing another heavy glass bottle—this one full of decorative bath salts.

Another bottle was thrown towards him.

Williams moved to dodge it again, but I was already in motion, trying to scramble backward out of the way. I wasn't fast enough.

Instead of hitting the wall, the heavy bottle landed right on my face.

Smack.

The impact was blinding. A sharp, white-hot explosion of pain burst across my cheekbone and temple. The bottle cracked against my skin before dropping to the floor, and I collapsed sideways into the pile of broken glass I had just been cleaning up.

"Ah!" I gasped, clutching my face as warm, sticky blood immediately began to pour through my fingers. Sharp stabs of pain pierced my palms and knees as they pressed into the glass shards on the floor.

The room went dead silent.

"Salome!" Alpha Williams's voice didn't sound calm anymore. It was a roar that shook the very foundations of the palace.

I looked up through a blurry, tear-filled gaze. For the first time, Alpha Williams looked absolutely terrified—and furious. His eyes had gone completely pitch black, his wolf surging to the surface. He didn't look at Mariam; he dropped to his knees right into the glass next to me, his large hands hovering over my bleeding face.

"Don't move," he commanded, his voice trembling with a raw emotion I had never heard from him before. "Salome, look at me. Keep your eyes on me."

"I-I'm sorry, Alpha," I choked out, tasting copper in my mouth. "I'm sorry, I'll clean it..."

"Shut up about the mess," he growled softly, gently pulling my hands away from my face to inspect the damage. His hands were shaking. Why were his hands shaking? I was just a maid.

Behind him, Luna Mariam scoffed, though she took a step back, clearly startled by the sudden dark aura radiating off her husband. "Oh, please. It's just a scratch on a servant. Williams, we were having a conversation!"

Williams stood up slowly. The air in the room grew so heavy it became hard to breathe. He turned around to face his wife, and the sheer malice on his face made Mariam’s breath hitch.

"Get out," Williams said. It wasn't a shout. It was a deadly, vibrating whisper.

"What?" Mariam stammered, her arrogance finally faltering. "Williams, I am your wife, I am the Luna—"

"I said, get the hell out of my sight before my wolf tears you apart," he snarled, bare fangs flashing under his upper lip. "If you ever step foot in this wing of the palace again, I will strip you of your title myself."

Mariam paled. Realizing she had finally pushed him over the edge, she grabbed her silk purse and stormed out of the room, slamming the heavy oak doors behind her.

The moment she was gone, the Alpha dropped to his knees beside me again. Before I could even protest, he scooped me up into his arms, lifting me effortlessly against his broad chest. I winced as the movement shifted the cuts on my body, but the heat radiating from him was overwhelming.

"Hold onto me," he muttered, pressing me close as he strode out of the living room and down the hallway toward the medical wing.

"Alpha, please, I can walk. I'm getting blood on your shirt," I whimpered, feeling incredibly dizzy.

"I don't care about the shirt, Salome," he said, his grip tightening around me, his heart hammering wildly against my ribs. "Just stay conscious. That's an order."

  • BATTLE ON THE ICE   CLEAN MY BABY UP

SALOMEThe next morning, the sound of my alarm didn't ring to wake me up—it simply reminded me that the sun was rising. I hadn't slept anyway. If I wanted to earn back my pride, fix the disaster I caused for Williams’s team, and stand tall as a true Luna, crying in bed was not going to cut it. Ice hockey had broken me, so ice hockey was going to rebuild me.I threw on my heavy gear, laced my skates tightly, and stepped out onto the cold rink before the streetlights outside had even turned off.Practice began, and this time, it was non-stop.Day after day, I pushed my body past its absolute limits. I skated until my thighs felt like they were burning with lit matches, until the chilly air scraped against the back of my throat like sandpaper. My former failure played on a loop in my head every time I touched the puck. Twice, my legs completely gave out on me, sending me crashing hard onto the brutal ice, my lungs screaming for air as black spots danced across my vision.Twice I collapse

SALOMETwo nights. Two whole, agonizing nights, and Williams hadn’t spoken a single word to me.The silence in our house was heavier than the defeat on the ice. He didn’t yell, he didn’t curse, and in a way, that was so much worse. He simply acted like I was a ghost floating through his living space. I understood his anger. I really did. My pride had cost his club their standing, dragging them down to fourth place for the playoff qualifiers. It was all because of my desperate, stupid quest to fight Miriam, to show her I was better, and to force Williams to take my side. Now, he was further away from me than ever.Sitting on the edge of the bed on the third evening, my mind raced. The distance between us was killing me. I needed to bridge it, to break through the icy wall he’d built around himself. I initiated the idea of seduction. Maybe with sex, I could win his heart again. Deep down, I believed the love was still there, buried under all that disappointment and frustration. I just n

  • BATTLE ON THE ICE   THE RUIN

SALOMEThe victory on the ice had faded by the time the evening shadows stretched across our bedroom floor. Williams had been quiet during the drive home, his hands gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly, his mind clearly burdened by the news.As night fell, the tension in our room was thick enough to cut with a blade. Williams stood by the side of the bed, his dark eyes locked on me with a mixture of intense worry and frustration."Salome, please listen to me," he said, stepping closer and reaching for my hands. "Miriam has played this sport for years. She’s ruthless on the ice. You’ve had one good day of training, but an actual game is entirely different. I don’t want to see you get hurt out there.""I’m not backing down, Williams," I replied softly, stepping back so my spine hit the cool wall near our closet. "I’m playing."He let out a low growl of frustration, moving toward me until there was no space left between us. His large hands came up to frame my face, his thumb

  • BATTLE ON THE ICE   THE FIRST ONE

SALOMEWilliams looked at me for a long, quiet moment, his deep blue eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and hurt. But seeing the tears streaming down my cheeks, he didn't push me. He let out a long, heavy sigh, pulled his shirt back over his broad chest, and quietly moved to his side of the bed. He pulled the covers up, turned his back to me, and within thirty minutes, his heavy breathing told me he had slept off.I lay awake in the dark for a long time, staring at his broad, motionless back, feeling an overwhelming wave of regret washing over my heart. The next morning, the soft golden light of the sun woke me up. I blinked my eyes open, expecting to find the bed empty as usual, but Williams was standing right beside the mattress. He was wearing a casual gray sweater and dark pants, carrying a wooden tray loaded with hot pancakes, fresh strawberries, squeezed orange juice, and steaming tea. He carefully set the tray down across my lap and gave me a soft, cautious smile."Good mo

  • BATTLE ON THE ICE   THE PUSH

SALOMETen o'clock at night came and went, and the room remained dead silent. Alpha Williams still hadn't returned home.Sitting alone on the edge of the large bed, staring at the empty doorway, a cold clarity finally settled over my heart. Miriam was right. He didn't love me. He didn't care that I was hurt, and he didn't care that he had left me in the hands of a woman who hated my guts.I need to stop thinking about the sex, I told myself, biting my lip as a sharp sting of tears tried to form in my eyes. It was true—the intimacy we shared was the best feeling I had ever experienced in my life. The way he held me, the way his hands explored every inch of my body, and the raw passion that shook the room made me feel complete. But I needed to let it go. I had to stop letting a few hours of physical pleasure blind me to the reality of my pain. It was time to focus on my own life and protect what was left of my heart.I thought about my old life. Back when I was a simple maid scrubbing f

  • BATTLE ON THE ICE   WALKED HOME ALONE

SALOMEThat night inside the cold guest room of the hockey facility was easily one of the worst nights of my entire life. The moment the door clicked shut behind Williams, the fake, gentle smile vanished from Miriam’s face. She didn't offer me a glass of water or check on my bruised, aching neck. Instead, she pulled a chair right up to the side of the bed, crossed her legs, and began to tear my heart into little pieces with her words."Did you really think you were special, little maid?" she asked, her voice dripping with cruel satisfaction in the dim light of the room. "Do you think the way he touches you in that bed is something unique?"I pulled the blanket up to my chin, my throat throbbing violently every time I swallowed, but I kept my eyes fixed on her."He loves me," I whispered, my voice raspy and broken.Miriam let out a harsh, mocking laugh that echoed off the bare walls. "He loves your body because he is a wolf, Salome! Do you know how many nights Williams fucked me from b
