Tension hung in the air as Jenny sat at her workstation, hands poised on keyboard, yet mind a thousand miles away. Her mind replayed what had occurred the previous night over and over again. She had attempted to drive them out, concentrate on work, yet everything weighed her down. Every glimpse she caught of someone passing by her office, every sound she heard, seemed to bring back memories of that night. The evening she had bared her soul to Saben, her boss, her colleague the man she had gone out of her way to avoid but never felt as in tune with.

Her phone rang on the desk, and she was jolted back into reality. A quick peek at the screen informed her it was a text from Zina.

Zina: Good to have you around today. Call if you need anything!

Jenny smiled, her shoulders easing slightly. Zina had been kind, and that had eased her conscience some, but she couldn't shake the impending worry about Saben. She didn't know what he was going through, but she sensed the air between them would be

Even though she felt relieved after talking to Saben, there was still a thick, lingering shame that clung to Jenny like a second layer of skin. It wasn't merely a matter of the weakness she had shown, or the things that she had poured out in inebriated blurriness it was because Saben, her boss and her lover at work, had taken care of her. He had stuck around, guarded her when she was lowest, and hadn't even winced. She sat back down at her desk, attempting to concentrate on the task at hand, but couldn't get him out of her head. His eyes, gentle with compassion. The way he'd given her room to speak, to tell him without hurry. The gentleness in his tone. But under it all… under the warmth and his placid nature, there was still the reality that he was her boss. And in that instant, Jenny felt she had passed a point one that could not be undone. She had trusted him, but she hadn't trusted herself yet.It had been too much. She had been too vulnerable, too exposed. It wasn't a blunder it

Saben stood before his bedroom mirror, towel still draped loosely around his neck as he accessed his clothes. His thoughts were still reeling from last night. Jenny's weakness, the time they shared, the way she appeared to soften before him it had all been so much to take in. But as he comb-separated his damp hair, he sensed a change within him. He had to admit, he was attached to her. A whole lot more than he had anticipated. He was so deep in thought that the sudden ring on his phone shocked him. He peered at the screen—Eliana Wolfe. His little sister.Sighing, he answered the call, anticipating whatever ribbing was in store for him. Eliana had been persistent about his non-existent "love life" of late, and now, after his late-night escapade, he suspected she was going to have a field day.Saben: "Hey, Eliana. What's up?" He attempted to be nonchalant, but the subtle wariness in his tone betrayed his mind.Eliana (teasing): "Oh, not much, just curious who the new girl is. You know,

Saben had scarcely entered the peaceful, familiar corridor of his family's house when his mother, Sabrina, emerged from the kitchen, her eyes dancing with mirth. She leaned against the doorframe, arms folded, and smiled knowingly."Hmm, where did you sleep last night? Why just now go home?" she asked, her tone teasing, an undercurrent of curiosity.Saben stood still for an instant, taken aback by the question. His gaze snapped towards his mother's face only to be met with the playing smile at the edge of her lips. She was always perceptive, and everyone knew she knew him better than anybody else. He could not even conceal his own feelings from her even if he wanted to.Saben brushed his hair back, as if trying to bear the burden of the conversation before it could even start. "I. uh, stayed at work a bit longer than planned," he said, his words stuttering against the watchful eye.Sabrina raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I see," she said, her voice heavy with sarcasm. "Stayed at work, eh? Was

The sunlight coming through the blinds the next morning felt almost alien to Jenny. It was as if an entirely different world had emerged—one she wasn't ready to enter yet, perhaps, but one that she needed to confront regardless. Her head ached from the drinking the night before, and when she sat up in bed, the full force of what had occurred seemed to brood over her like a cloud. She could feel the lingering shadows of Saben's presence beside her—his unspoken comfort, his calm hand in hers—yet now that the instant was gone, she did not know where they were. She looked over at the bench where Saben had slept, half hoping to see it vacant. But there he was, still snoring, his hand on the pillow beside him. His face was easy in sleep, no longer the stern, unreachable man of the office, but someone who appeared almost vulnerable, as if the night had mellowed him as well.Jenny's mind was knotted. What had happened last night? What was this. chemistry between them? It was too early to cons

The soft light of the streetlights outside the window filtered through to Jenny's apartment and cast long shadows throughout the room. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the soft hum of night outside. Jenny lay awake, her head still on the pillow, her body sore from the activities of the night before. She had never felt so exposed, so fragile.Saben had stuck by her word. But the weight of his presence beside her, the taut silence that threatened to bubble in her atmosphere, was near enough to suffocation. He had been so kind to her, so tender, but she couldn't deal with the whirlpool of emotion that churned now in her heart. She glared up at the ceiling, her hands tracing the edge of the blanket involuntarily."I never thought I'd be here," she breathed aloud.Saben moved in the shadows of the corner, as if he'd heard her. He didn't respond immediately, but the fact that she could even detect him breathing, steady and untroubled, made her feel more exposed. He was present. He
