CHAPTER FOUR

Pain shot through me as Christabel, our maid tried to remove the piece of glass stuck in my palm. Tears flowed down my cheek as I gasped for air. I placed my second palm on my face. The thought of something bad happening to Fabio ran across my mind. Knew it won't be easy and that I would suffer more in Lorenzo's hands. Not when Viola and the rest are angry at me.

To be honest, I never wanted this to happen at all. I shouldn't have shown up at the dining table at all. I shouldn't have. This was all my fault. If I hadn't shown up, all of this wouldn't have happened. Something pricked through me as I snapped out of my thoughts. I looked down to see Christabel with tissue paper and a pin. Looking at her side, I saw a first aid box.

"It would hurt a little, bite into this." She said folding the tissue and she urged me to open my mouth. I obeyed and bite into the tissue. Then she brought the pin closer to my palm. I blinked my lashes when fear engulfed me. It was time she pressed it on me and I took it away.

I can't bear the thought of a pin getting into my skin.

"It would get infected if I don't do the needful." She said.

"No, I don't want to. It would hurt." I muttered.

"It won't. Please ma'am let me do this."

"Are you sure you can handle this? I don't want to get injured." I asked her. What if she doesn't know how to go about it? What if? Oh no! I brought my palm closer to inspect it. It looks kind of deep. I pray it doesn't get deeper.

"Oh, I know your fear now. I can't do this. I have been doing this for the past five years, ma'am. I won't hurt you." She soothes. I became calm and she took my hand slowly. I shut my eyes and clenched my teeth on the tissue.

Fuck.

It hurts.

"It's done now. You can open your eyes, ma'am." She announced and I fluttered my eyes opened immediately. I couldn't see clearly as tears had already clouded my vision. I wiped it away with my other palm. Removing the tissue in my mouth, I sighed in relief. It doesn't hurt that bad anymore. Christabel took care of it and she plastered it.

She left the room and now, I was on my own. Fabio had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance. I was about to follow but I got chased back by Lorenzo saying I shouldn't move an inch. I would not rest knowing Fabio was in that condition all because of me. If he wasn't defending me all of this would not have happened.

Maybe I would just be resting right now. I sucked in my breath and prayed Fabio was all right. Because if he doesn't, I would get blamed for all of it.

I stood on my feet and opened the drawer in search of my cell phone just to remember that it was in the car. I slipped into my slippers and rushed downstairs careful not to hit my swollen palm on anything. When I reached the first living room, I remembered the key. The car key.

Oh shit. The car key. I rushed back upstairs and opened the door to the room. I rummaged through the nightstand looking for the key to the Lamborghini. Jeez, there are so many keys. How was I going to know the one which suits the car?

Without wasting time, I grabbed some keys. I rushed down again. I was getting to the entrance when I was stopped by two guards.

"I am sorry ma'am but you can't leave." The guard said.

What? Why can't I leave?

"But why?" I asked.

"It's an order from Boss Lorenzo."

Lorenzo told them not to allow me to leave. What the heck is wrong with him?

"You are kidding right?" I asked to be sure.

"No ma'am. That is the order given to us." They said and walked away. A frown finds its way to my face. I turned and walked back to my room. I sat down again and pondered on what could happen to my father-in-law.

I drifted to sleep when I couldn't leave the house.

The sound of the door made me jump out of the bed in fear. I turned to the door just to see Christabel bringing in some food on a tray. She set it on the table next to the couch. She turned to me.

"Oh, I am sorry I woke you up. Did you sleep well? Does it still hurt?" She asked.

I rubbed my neck nervously. "You didn't. Thank you. But you can take the food with you back to the kitchen." I told her.

"But..."

I didn't allow her to talk. "I will wait for my husband."

"Alright ma'am but it is already past 11:00 midnight. I don't think Sir Lorenzo or Mama Viola is coming home. They are all still at the hospital waiting for Sir Fabio to recover." She said.

"Wait, what? It's past eleven?" I widened my eyes and look around and my eyes landed on the wall. So I slept for six hours. Oh goodness. It's dark already when are they all coming home? I motioned to Christabel to leave and she did. She left without taking the food along with her.

I searched around for my cell phone and finally saw it on the bed. I grabbed it and dialed Lorenzo's number. It wasn't going through. I tried again and again but it was futile.

"Where are you, Lorenzo? Where are you?" I panicked.

I walked closer to the window and peered downstairs. Then the gate slide opened. A car entered. He was back from the hospital. I paced around and after a few seconds, he entered.

He was looking all haggard and pale. I moved closer.

"Lorenzo, why are you..." There wasn't a chance in hell that I could complete that statement. He pinned me against the wall and gripped my neck choking me.
