Chapter 1: Save Your Heir
REBEKKA Activity was bustling in the clinic as I held my mop close to my chest and weaved through the crowd to make my way over to the bedside of one of the pack warriors who had just vomited blood on the tiled floor. I put the mop down and cleaned up the mess and was about rinsing it free when I heard my name. “Rebekka! Get over here!” Doctor Purcell yelled as he struggled to hold down a combative patient. I dropped the mop and the bucket and ran over to him, “Yes, Master!” “Hold him down, I need to pull out all these shards!” He commanded. The man on the table eyed me wickedly as I tried to hold his hands down by his side, with a little shake he sent me stumbling backwards and I fell to the floor. I wasn’t even strong enough to hold down an injured pack warrior. “Get out of the way, mutt!” a vicious voice called out to me. I stiffened and looked up, shifting out of the way quickly. The man that spoke to me, along with two other men, were covered in blood and were pushing a gurney hurriedly into the pack clinic. On the bed was the most handsome man I had ever seen! He was shirtless and covered in blood but even that did not dampen how hot he looked. I felt a tightness in my chest as I gawked at him as I got to my feet, Who the hell was that? The initial excitement was replaced by a wave of fear, when I saw his injuries. Why was he bleeding so much? I didn’t think I had seen so much blood in my life. I felt sick. I just stood there as he was wheeled in and Doctor Purcell left the patient he was treating to give all his attention to the hot injured man that was just brought in. I shook off the fear and confusion, I was in a clinic and one day I was hoping I might be able to work here as a doctor, I should not be scared of the sight of such blood or injury. I went about my normal duties of cleaning up after patients and changing soiled sheets. Later that evening, as I was returning from a supply run, I saw a line forming up outside the clinic. What was this about? “Excuse me miss, please why are you lining up here?” I asked the last lady on the line. She eyed me head to toe and then smirked, “Are you sure that you are in this pack at all?” She looked at my uniform, “How can you work in the clinic and have no idea what is going on?” I was caught off guard by her aggression, “What is going on?” I asked innocently. She rolled her eyes at me, “If you are so curious, go to the town square!” she replied. I left her side and made my way over to the town square, today had just been weird. Firstly, we got a huge influx of pack warriors, it looked like they had been in some kind of fight or battle, with whom I had no idea. We were not through dealing with that and now there was a line forming up outside the clinic, was some rare disease going around? The voice of the alpha’s messenger boomed loudly and interrupted my thoughts, “Loyal members of the Half Moon Pack, today, your heir, the son of the great alpha Michael needs your help. He has been poisoned with wolfsbane by devious witches and is near death!” I gasped in shock, the alpha’s son was dying? How? Where? Something pinged in my brain and I remembered the young sexy man that was rushed in by those three menacing men. Could that be the alpha’s son? My heart began to thump in my chest. “He has a rare blood type and as such we need to find a donor for him or else he will die. Save your heir’s life… go to the clinic now and get tested, there awaits a huge reward for whoever shall save his life!” Before I could finish processing what I had heard, I was already running back to the clinic to join the line. How could I be aspiring to be a doctor like Master Purcell in the future and yet allow the alpha’s son to die under my nose? I couldn’t let that happen, I doubted that a low born like me would amount to any good but I was determined to do my best to save his life. I joined the queue and waited impatiently for my turn. Kaitlin glared at me when it was her turn to draw my blood, “What the hell do you think you are doing here?” “Please test me,” I said and bowed curtly. “What good could your blood be to anyone?” she added. “Next!” she shouted, looking past me. “Please test me, Kaitlin, please!” I refused to bulge. “Get away mutt, you are holding up the line!” the man directly behind me shouted. I winced but didn’t bulge, “Please Kaitlin,” I pleaded. Doctor Purcell came over with an annoyed look on his face, “What’s the matter here?” “Dad, Rebekka joined the queue!” Kaitlin ratted off. Doctor Purcell eyed me then looked at his daughter, “Just test her, this is urgent.” “But…” she began to protest. “Just do it and be done with it,” he cut her off. “Give me your hand!” She said in annoyance. Kaitlin jabbed me with the needle and drew my blood, I winced in pain, looked like she did it intentionally to hurt me. She put a drop of it on the yellow Stardust leaf and then gasped when it turned deep red. “Dad!” she yelled. I looked from the leaf to her face, “Please, what is going on?” Doctor Purcell ran over, as soon as he saw the red leaf his eyes widened and he looked at me, “You are a match!” Before I could show my surprise, two guards moved forward and grabbed me and led me into the clinic to a room and a bed, adjacent to me was the alpha’s son, Lord Stephan. Everything happened so fast. One minute I am getting tested and the next I am being laid down and prepped. The last thing I remembered before passing out was the drip being hurriedly fixed into my left hand and then everything faded into blackness.151 - A STEP CLOSER TO THE GOALDAMON POV“Is it over?” Rebekka whispered. There was dust everywhere and everyone was sprawled on the floor. My eyes quickly darted to where the Wendigo had been. All that was left was a dark scorch mark on the floor. “I guess so,” I said tightly as I got up.“Damn it!” Stephan growled as he too got up, “There is nothing left…”“Yeah, no shit,” I chipped in.“How am I going to explain all this to the alpha… how can I blame Vane when there isn’t any Vane left?”“I’m sorry,” Rebekka said.I rolled my eyes and then sighed loudly, “Fuck you man. She saves your life and you don’t even thank her?”“Damon, not now,” Rebekka said, turning to face me.“Of course, you would jump to his rescue,” I faced her.Stephan dropped to his knees, once again, his lips as well as his finger tips were blue – once again the bastard had escaped death.Claude just stood there silently watching the day break, “Tonight will be the Winter Solstice Festival. We have to let them kno
150 – A PATH IN THE CHAOSTHIRD PERSON POVThe tremendous shockwave didn’t just hit, Rebekka, Stephan, Damon and Claude, a small pulse of it shot far past the borders of the half-moon pack and travelled miles until it reached Lady Cecile who was soaking in a hot tub in their new hideout. Thanks to Stephan finding out their last headquarters, the witches had to move again and this was not something that Lady Cecile was happy about and that was why she beset the Wendigo on Stephan and all those he held dear.If things worked out the way they were supposed to, it should have killed all his friends and then killed Stephan, if luck was also on their side, it should have also killed the Luna and the alpha. But Lady Cecile knew that the beast being able to kill alpha Micheal was a bit of a stretch and she was just satisfied with it taking his beloved heir from him after making him witness all his friends die.Damon had unwittingly supplied her the perfect candidate to conduct the spell with,
149 – ICE COLD HEARTS AND FLOWING BLOODREBEKKA POVLord Stephan was pacing back and forth in the lobby of the clinic when I came to meet him. I was glad that he was looking much better than he was in the morning.“Damon filled me in on how to neutralize the creature, we have a plan to trap him, all we need now is your blood,” he said.“Okay… how are you feeling?” I asked, my face was twisted with worry. Everything that he just said flew in one ear and out the other. His gaze softened, “I am fine, Rebekka, we will talk all about it after it is done, okay? Right now, I need a vial of your blood.”I sighed deeply, “I have to come with you,” I said.“What?” he stared at me in confusion, “No, all we need is your blood, you don’t need to be there.”“Actually…” I reached for the book where Damon found the Wendigo and flipped the pages and showed it to him, “It states that the Blood of the Goddess needs to drop directly from the pulsing vein to the beating heart of the beast.”His eyes scann
148 – CATCHING A WENDIGODAMON POV“Commander Vane? What did he do? What is going on?” Claude was staring at Stephan with suspicion in his eyes.He did not seem to have gotten over the fact that Stephan was all bruised and fucked up.“Are you coming along or are you going to stand there asking plenty questions?” I asked impatiently. The sooner we found Vane, the quicker we could put this whole mess behind us. The only good opportunity that this situation provided for me for the chance to pin all the spy stuff on Vane’s head.He was in no position to defend himself and besides, it all fit perfectly in a neat bow but Stephan’s suspicious ass was not buying it entirely. “Damon is right,” Stephan said, “Let’s get moving.”Claude and I exchanged a look of surprise, “I am right?” I asked in surprise, “Wow, look who is now agreeing with me.”“Shut it!” Stephan barked, “You are only here because we need you to find your chief, you know him best, where would he go to hide.”I shrugged, “No i
147 – TRACKERS STEPHAN POVNo, no, no, there was no way that that creature was Vane, it was not possible.Vane was as loyal as they came, no way he was running around killing comrades and members of my pack. But Damon could not be making that up, he was an ass but he was not stupid, he knew the cost of such an accusation and besides, he seemed to be aware of the fact that silver blades were fucking useless against that thing.“We have to get you to the clinic,” Rebekka was saying.I ignored her, “You saw it yourself?” I asked Damon. He scoffed, “Guess you experienced what I did, just way worse,” he looked me over, “You couldn’t kill it, could you?”I gnashed my teeth, one whole night spent going from the hunter to the hunted, I came closer to losing my life last night than I did to stopping that creature. The thought that it was still out there, drove me insane.“It is worse than you think,” Damon said.I winced as I struggled to my feet, no way I was going to sit on my ass and have
146 – LIES AS TRUTH REBEKKA POV“Yes, you were right, your blood can break the curse,” he continued to speak.A wave of relief washed over me, I was right, he knew all along, “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get out there.”“Did you listen to anything that I told you? I stuck him with a silver dagger in the heart and it didn’t slow him down.”“Yes,” I said eagerly, “You just said that my blood can break the curse, let’s use it to do so.”Damon squinted as he stared at me, “Have you ever been in a fight before? Vane or the Wendigo is not exactly going to sit there waiting for you to come cure it. We should wait until the day when he is back in his human form, then he will be easier to deal with.”“No, we cannot do that,” I snapped, “Lord Stephan is out there right now, that monster is hurting him and if what you said is true, he has no way to kill it.”Damon still remained unfazed but there was a faraway look in his eyes, “If the alpha son is anything like I think he is, he would
