New job?

When I get to the door of the gym I can hardly feel my face because it is so frozen. As soon as I open the door I feel the warmth of the gym. I walk in and the warmth welcomes me. I take off my hood seeing Rose at the counter, as soon as she sees me she smiles happily, I approach her and hug her.

-Hello- I greet her when we separate smiling.

- Hi little girl, come in, here- she says and gives me some candies. I smile wistfully, hug her again and give her a kiss on her forehead since I'm taller than her. I enter the gym eating one of the candies. It is full. I walk up to Bob who is training a hazel-eyed brunette boy, he will be about seventeen.

-Hi- I say still holding the candy in my mouth. He smiles at me and hugs me.

-Rose is already spoiling you- he says pretending to be angry.

-No way, not at all- I say and we both laugh. The dark-haired man looks at us a little bit surprised.

-Oh, this is Jack, Jack, this is my niece Kara- he smiles and holds out his hand to me, I accept it. He's a little taller than me. Bob gives her some exercises and sends me to the treadmill.

I spend twenty minutes running to warm up. Then he sends me out to do sit-ups, squats and push-ups. Some people stare at me but I ignore them.

When I'm finally done I put on my straps and gloves to start on the punching bag.

An hour later I find myself sitting on a bench toweling off my sweat and drinking water.

-That's all for today- he says.

-Okay, not bad- I reply. I go to the bathroom where I wash myself a little bit so my mother doesn't notice that I've been training -Hey, do you know if someone is offering work- I say when I get out of the bathroom.

- My wife has a coffee shop nearby, when I get home I'll tell her and I'll tell you - he replies, I nod and say goodbye to him and Rose to go home.

When I arrive I don't see her so I leave my backpack on my bed and take a relaxing shower. I go out in my pajamas to the kitchen where I prepare a salad and pasta. I have a quiet dinner watching Stranger Things.

I look at the time and see that it's ten o'clock, I should go to sleep or tomorrow I won't be able to get up on time. Just when I fall into bed my cell phone rings with a notification.

He says to stop by tomorrow. Uncle Bob.

I read the message next to the address. I turn off my cell phone after thanking him and say goodnight to let myself fall into the arms of Morpheus.

The alarm clock rings and I drag myself to the bathroom where I wash my face with cold water to wake up completely. I put on jeans with a black sweatshirt. I let my hair down under a black beanie. I decide on my dr martens. I quickly pack my backpack and grab what I need. I leave my room and make myself breakfast. Once finished I run to the bathroom where I quickly brush my teeth and rush out of the apartment. I take the bus that leaves me a block away from the uni. I walk there and head to my first class.

The classes pass quickly and now I am walking towards my aunt's cafeteria. I don't know what it's called, neither the cafeteria nor her; she just gave me the address. A few blocks later I arrive and I see a very nice cafeteria and the truth is that it is quite crowded. When I see the name of the coffee shop my heart stops for a second. Matthew's is the name of the coffee shop, my eyes glaze over a little but I won't shed any tears. I walk into the coffee shop where I see a green-eyed blonde at the counter serving. I approach her, she smiles, she must be my age.

-Good morning, welcome to Matthew's, what can I get you?

-I come on behalf of Bob- I answer politely and she nods smiling.

-Wait here for a second, I'm going to call Martha- she disappears down a little hallway and a second later a very pretty lady appears, blue-eyed and brunette.

-Hi, you must be Kara, right?- she asks once she gets to me and the blonde girl goes to attend. I nod and she hugs me.

- I'm Martha, Bob's wife, I've heard a lot about you, how are you- she asks when we separate.

-Good and you?- I answer and she smiles broadly at me.

-All right, Bob told me last night that you were looking for a job- she says and I nod -Come on, come on- she says and we go into the hallway and she opens the door at the back where there is a small office. - You have the resume, you don't need it because you are hired- she says and winks at me. I give her the resume and she reads it and then puts it away to take out the contract. I read it and sign it. -Then you start tomorrow- she announces happily, and we stand up and hug again.

-Thank you so much, this means a lot to me- I say with tears in my eyes.

- It's nothing, love- she replies kissing my forehead. We leave and I say goodbye to both of them and go home happy. I receive a video call from Aby.

-Hello- I greet her happy when I pick up the phone.

-Hi, so happy, what happened? - she asks "alarmed". I roll my eyes.

-I already have a job!

-And where did you get it?

-At my aunt's coffee shop, my uncle Bob's wife.

-Wow, that sounds great - she shouts - So how was your first day as a newbie?

- Nothing out of the ordinary, I haven't talked to anyone yet- I say with a shrug.

- You have to socialize Kara, otherwise, when you're eighty years old your friends will be me and the cats -she says, and we both laugh.

- Now I'm in the bathroom of the cafeteria, all very stressful because today I had to stay two more hours - I hear some knocking in the bathroom - I have to go, I'll talk to you later, I love you - he hangs up without letting me say goodbye. I get home and leave the keys in the bowl at the entrance. I hear my guts roar for lack of food. I go to the kitchen where I grab a slice of pizza I hadn't seen before, I eat it in a matter of seconds.
