FLAVIA'S POV

I woke up feeling annoyed and very frustrated, after having little or no sleep last night thanks to Louis and all the awful things he said to me last night... First, I didn't want to go to the so called event with him but he practically forced me.

Then he embarrassed me at the event because I was talking to someone. To be fair, I actually went too far while flirting with Carter but it was only because Louis had his eyes on me. I mean, I am only his wife on paper, so he shouldn't be bothered by my actions but I guess I was wrong.

Although I think it will be best to stay away from him for a while, but unfortunately for me, as soon as I got to the dining area, there he was, already sitting, scrolling through his phone as he sips his black coffee.

I sat at the far end of the long dining table, totally ignoring him as I served my breakfast. The fact that he refused to say anything to me or even apologize for how he treated and spoke to me last night is very annoying, which is why I have decided not to follow him to his next event, contract or not.

"You should let your assistant know I won’t be attending the charity luncheon next week."

"That wasn’t a request." He said without sparing me a glance.

"Neither was last night, but you dragged me away like a caveman. I think a public appearance together so soon might raise questions, it's better to keep things… quiet."

"Is this you still sulking or are you looking out for me?" He asked as he finally looked in my direction.

"And you’re still assuming I care enough to sulk or care about your reputation." I stared at him. "Well, this is me not wanting to be seen around with a caveman." I clarified.

He sets down his cup of coffee, leans back in his chair. "You're really committed to making this year hell, aren't you?"

"I’m committed to surviving it."

He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but then he decided against it, before returning to his phone. I ignored him as well and we ate the rest of our breakfast in silence and just as I was just rounding up with breakfast, my phone started ringing.

"Hi babygirl." I said as soon as I picked Jazmine's call.

I am so glad that she called because the silence here is deafning and it's driving me crazy and Louis is too annoying to talk to.

"Someone seems excited." She pointed out. "So tell me, how was the event? Was Louis drooling all over you?" I wish that was the case.

"Not exactly, although something unexpected happened. I will tell you all about it later." I can't afford to tell her anything about what happened last night when he is sitting right in front of me.

"Oh, he is there right?" I nodded like she could see me. "Anyways, I called to tell you about the office space we talked about."

"Okay, have you seen any nice office space?" I asked curiously because to be honest, I don't think I can stay with Louis without going out daily for work, I will literally lose my mind.

"Yeah, I saw a place but I don't know what you think. Check you phone, I sent some pictures." She pointed out.

Without ending the call, I checked our messages and I saw the pictures she sent, including the location. I love the location, it's close enough but the space itself is small, too small. "Ummm, I like it but it's really small. It's not worth the price." I was hoping it will be perfect but it's not.

"Well, I guess we will keep looking."

"Yeah, I am sure we will find the perfect office space soon."

"Of course, anyways, I have to go now. I will see you during the week, I can't wait to hear what happened at the event or you can call me later when you are free." I can't wait to tell her either because I am honestly still surprised at his behavior.

"Yeah, me too. Take care of yourself." I ended the call and looked at Louis but he seems to be engrossed in his phone.

He is not even eating his food, just his black coffee. Maybe he is not exactly hungry, I finished with my food and I stood up to leave. "Get dressed, we are going out in two hours." He said casually like we had a prior agreement.

"I don't have any plans of going out today."

"Me neither, it just came up and it's important."

"Okay, where are we going?" I asked curiously.

"It's not your business, just get ready."

"Just so you know, I don't appreciate you ordering me around. You have to tell me in advance and also tell me where we are going, I am not your puppet." I said frankly.

I mean, he is fond of telling me what to do and ordering me around without proper notice and I don't appreciate it.

"Don't be ridiculous Flavia, I am the one paying you. So, when I say jump, you say how high?" He grabbed his phone and walked right past me. "Two hours." He added on his way up the stairs.

I stood there watching him leave, without knowing what to say. I mean, he is right. He is paying me to be his wife, and according to the contract, it includes following him to places but he doesn't have to be rude about it.

"This is going to be difficult." I murmured as I made my way back to my room, I need to get ready and I have no idea what to wear but at least, he gave me enough time this time around.

I plopped on my bed and I decided to give Jaz a call since I have enough time to get ready.

"Hey girl, what's up?"

"Nothing much, I am in my room now. I was having breakfast with Louis when you called earlier." I pointed out.

"Oh, I see. Now give me the gist, I have been dying to know what happened."

"Well, the party was really fun and I met a lot of people. I met one guy, Carter. He approached me at the bar and he was flirting even though he knew I am Louis' wife and I didn't stop him. It felt so good to have someone fun to talk to, so I just indulged him but Louis was mad." I summarized.

"But of course, what were you expecting? You are his wife and it's disrespectful for you to be with another man when he was right there with you." I mean, she's right but I just wanted to annoy him, besides I had no idea that he was going to react that way.

"Well, I just wanted to get a reaction from him but he went to far. He practically dragged me out of the party in front of everyone and shoved me in the car, he was quiet through out the entire ride but when we got back home, he went off." I paused a little when I remembered how mad he was. "I can't even remember everything he said but he was really mad." I clarified.

"Wow, I didn't expect this type of drama. I was hoping you would tell me how much he loved your looks and maybe he ended up kissing you or something even more fun." She teased.

"Stop it Jaz, nothing like that can ever happen."

"Never say never, I mean he reacted that way for a reason right? It could be jealousy, I mean, seeing his beautiful wife having fun with another man can trigger jealousy. Which means, he like you and that can be the beginning of something beautiful."

"Don't be funny Jaz, he only got mad because his ego was bruised, nothing more. It has nothing to do with jealousy or likeness, besides we are always at loggerhead, there is no way something like that can happen." I pointed out.

There is no need to nurse that idea because it's highly impossible, besides he had me once and now he is acting like he doesn't like me, so I don't even want anything with him.

"Whatever you say girl."

"I mean it, we are always fighting and we even fought this morning before he asked me to get dressed and follow him out."

"You guys are going out?" She asked curiously.

"Yes, I don't know where but I need to get ready." I pointed out.

"Wow, I see. Anyways I can smell love in the air, maybe fighting or playful banter is you guys love language." She suggested and I started laughing.

"Love language indeed, anyways, I have to go now. Talk to you later, take care." I ended the call and I stayed back thinking about all her nonsense, there is no way Louis likes me.

I decided to start dressing up, I showered first before doing a simple nude makeup and I decided to wear a black ripped jeans and a beautiful white top to go with it. I have no idea where we are going but this will have to do.

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 17 ~ THE CRACKS

LOUIS'S POV I hate when the house is quiet like this. There is something unsettling about silence after a fight, like the tension is still clinging to the walls, replaying every word with sharper edges. I could still hear her voice, thick with anger. Her eyes... God, those eyes had looked at me like I am a monster in a tailored suit.I shouldn’t have snapped at her like I did.I ran a hand down my face, bracing myself on the kitchen island, glaring at the orchids like it was their fault. It wasn’t about the damn flowers, not really. It was about everything else. About how she started leaving her scent in the rooms, her softness in the air, her damn laugh in places where silence used to live and I didn’t know how to deal with that.Flavia wasn’t supposed to… matter. I told myself that the contract was business, that she was just a solution. A temporary fixture to cover up the mess left behind by Emily and the looming eyes of people, media and my workers. And yet, here I am, angry over

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 16 ~ THE RULES OF LOUIS

FLAVIA'S POV I never knew flowers could feel like landmines. The orchids on the marble kitchen island were a soft shade of lilac, delicate and perfectly arranged. I reached out instinctively to adjust one of the petals, only slightly because it looked like it was leaning the wrong way."Don’t touch that." Came a voice from behind me and without turning around, I knew it was Louis.I froze. "It’s just a flower, Louis."His footsteps were clipped against the marble floors as he entered the kitchen. "That’s not the point."I turned around slowly, watching him stand there in a blue jeans and a black polo shirt buttoned by the neck and he looks so cute as usual, I love seeing him in casual outfits as well as cooperates, he looks good either ways. It's Sunday and he is not going to work."What is the point, then?" I asked curiously. He narrowed his eyes at the vase. "I had it arranged a certain way."I blinked. "So? I just nudged a petal.""You moved it. The alignment is off." God. Is he

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 15 ~ NOTHING MORE

LOUIS'S POV The corner office buzzed with the low hum of city life, even from the twentieth floor. I sat behind my desk, scrolling through figures on my screen, but not really seeing any of them as something lingered in my mind."She hugged me." It was brief, warm. Sudden and then she pulled back like she touched fire.I should have forgotten it by now but I can't get it off my mind. The soft knock on the door didn’t startle me, it was sudden and unexpected but only one person knocked like he owned the place."Come in." I said, without looking up.Tommy strolled in with a cup of coffee in each hand, he placed one on my desk before slumping into the chair opposite me. His suit jacket was unbuttoned, tie loosened like always. "I heard from Lidia that Flavia came in this morning," He said casually, before sipping his coffee. "You showed her the vacant floors?"I didn’t reply reply because I can already tell where this is going."You did, didn’t you?" He grinned. "You gave her a space,

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 14 ~ ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY

FLAVIA'S POV It honestly still feels like a dream, I can't believe that I now have an office to myself. Even now, after leaving Louis's office with my documents in hand, on my way back to the building to meet Jaz, it still feels like a wild dream. As soon as the car stopped in front of the Prime corner suite, I stepped out. "Wow, fancy." Jazmine teased as she saw me stepping out of the car. "Who's car is that?""Louis, he asked his driver to drop me." It was a little weird going to his office today because I can still remember what happened the last time I was there.I was practically eating in his office, created a scene and then he offered me contract marriage and with recent development, I am not entirely sure if I am still mad at him or not."Oh, I see. This is getting really interesting, an office space, a black card to furnish the space and then a car to bring you here." I already know what she's driving at but I don't want to give it a thought because I am honestly confused."

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 13 ~ THE OFFER

FLAVIA'S POV The silence in the car wasn’t the comfortable kind, it was thick, drawn-out, and padded with all the things neither of us wanted to say. His hands rested lightly on the steering wheel, his knuckles relaxed albeit the tension simmering just beneath the surface.I watched the city blur by through the tinted window, resisting the urge to fidget with my seatbelt. "Where are we going Louis?" I asked impatiently."This is the third time you are asking in the last five minutes and my reply hasn't changed, you have to wait and see." I really don't understand what the suspense is about, we are already on our way and he can as well just tell me."Fine, I don't know why it's so difficult to say, but it's fine." After last night’s debacle and this morning icy breakfast, I thought we were back to ignoring each other, but I guess not. Wherever it is we are going should better be worth ordering me around for.I stayed quiet and watched as he drove into an unfamiliar part of the city
