Maliya POV*
At an early age, I learned that our lives can be completely turned upside down in a matter of seconds. All it took was one word, one breath, or one action to destroy the life you once knew completely. Everything happened so fast. At first, I couldn’t understand whether what was happening was a nightmare or reality. I remember arguing and walking away from my mom over a dress she had just bought for me. I was walking towards the beautiful, luscious green forest she had warned me about time and time again. I was never to go into the forest alone, under no circumstances. But a familiar voice kept calling my name, a voice that I didn’t know. I didn’t know who they were or why they were calling me. Their voices were like a dream, and it led me to take step after step, “Maliya.” It urged, pulling me, “Maliya, Maliya, Maliya.” I pushed the green leaves away and walked into the forest. The voice went silent as I stepped away from the plants to see a large black wolf standing in the middle of the forest. Its eyes were a blazing blue, and slowly the wolf lowered his head, his snout touching the ground. Other wolves slowly moved closer, their golden eyes watching as I froze by a plant. Never have I seen a black wolf before. My mother told me a bedtime story about the lone werewolf who wanted to be stronger, so he made a deal with the devil. Seeing one now frightened me. But the black wolf slowly nodded his head as his large paw took a step closer to me. His eyes stared at me. Usually, when a wolf would attack, they would crouch, and their ears would be back. But this wolf was welcoming me; he wanted me to get closer. I took a step closer to the wolf, my hand out to touch his black fur. But before my hand could reach his sniffing snout, an arm wrapped around my torso. For a second, I was in the forest, and the next, I was being thrown out of it. I landed on my feet away from the forest. My body rolled onto my stomach as I heard the growls. For a moment, my mother’s hazel eyes looked back at me, and then she shifted into her wolf. Her body turned into a large grey wolf that let out a loud and long growl. A growl that scared me to the point of wetting myself. It was a warning. Her wolf’s hair on her back was standing up, and her body was crouched for attack. Only then did I realize that the wolves in the forest were not friends. They were the bad guys that, mother warned me about. The wolves pushed forward until she was at the edge of the forest. The black wolf didn’t look fazed or frightened. Instead, he looked sad as his blue eyes looked at me and then looked back at my mother. His wolf let out a sigh as he then turned his back to my mother, and with his back turned from her, all other wolves that were once watching me were no longer attacking my mother. Her wolf had stopped growling and let out a screeching yelp. And as quickly as it started, it was all over. The yelps, the cries, and everything went silent as the wolves ran away before the warriors could arrive to assist her. And on the ground at the edge of the forest was a grey wolf covered in blood. Grey fur was everywhere in the forest, and blood covered the plants I had touched earlier. I was closer to her missing body as the warriors arrived. And as I reached out to touch a strip of wet fur, I let out a loud wail. My body painfully jerked awake as my eyes opened up. Placing a hand over my heart, I tried to calm my breathing. “It’s a nightmare; it’s only a nightmare.” I tried to tell my fast-beating heart. But it was more than a nightmare; it was a MEMORY. Slowly, my sweaty palm closed into a fist as I squeezed my eyes shut. I wanted to forget the memory; I wanted to forget the image of my dead mother’s torn flesh. I wanted to forget my uncle’s glaring eyes as he looked down at me that day. I wanted to forget his voice when he accused me of her death in front of the crowd that only knew me as a bad omen. Warriors and pack members all cried when the doctor declared her dead. And their sadness had turned into hatred towards me. My mother always kept me in her room, so I didn’t know that the pack had judged me by my uncle’s words. My uncle said it was my fault that my mother had died. That I had shifted and called out to the black wolf to help me attack my mother. Even though that was a lie, I didn’t fight against his word; he was the Alpha of the pack. And I knew, if I had stayed away from the forest, none of this would have ever happened. Without my mother to protect me, my uncle and the pack agreed I was useless; I was too young to be a warrior. And people could barely stand to look at me, so I was to be placed in the cells. Some of the women spoke against this action, but my uncle’s words were final. We had this conversation every day, and every day it was the same. She looked at me and sighed softly as she shook her head, "Jane, just eat." I shook my head and walked towards the door. "What are you doing?" She asked as I opened the door, surprised to find it unlocked."Stop!" Amanda yelled and reached for my hand. I pulled against her hold and shook my head, "Okay, I'll get the doctor. But you have to eat your food!" She said, taking deep breaths through my nose, I nodded my head and walked towards the bed.Amanda held her promise and went to find Dr. Linn. I ate as much food as I could as I sat on the bed and waited for the Doctor. I pushed the plate away and then finished the milk carton. It took a while, but Dr. Linn entered the room with a small smile, "Someone has been telling me you want to leave." He said and raised an eyebrow. I nodded my head eagerly as I looked towards him, "Well, let's see if you are ready." He said.Liya growled as he took a step towards us, but she al
Raymond POVWalking out of the pack's hospital, I could feel Aero's sadness; neither he nor I felt comfortable leaving our mate in a bed by herself. I rubbed the back of my neck as I tried to control my confusion and anger. Even though she couldn't talk, her action made it clear that if she could, she wouldn't have. I could smell the fear coming from her, and I knew she was afraid of me. She only concentrated on me when the anesthesia was in her system. Never in my life have I asked or wanted a female's attention, but I wanted hers. I wanted to memorize her face, I wanted to hear her voice. There were so many things I wanted to do; I wanted to tell my pack that I was her mate, not someone who forced their mark on her. I was her true mate, and she was mine. 'Do you think she is upset with us?' Aero asked sadly. I only frowned and looked at my house behind the pack house. 'Why are we keeping her a secret? Why can't we say she's our mate?' He asked.Walking towards the wooden steps, I we
He gave me an encouraging nod, so I did what I did to Raymond. I wrapped my palm around the back of Dr. Linn's hand and held it as I stared up at him. Dr. Linn looked taken aback as he looked over to Raymond, who softly growled. He moved his hand from mine rather quickly, and I tilted my head. Looking at my hand, I wonder why I didn't feel the sensation that I did with Raymond. Was that a mate thing? I closed my eyes and groaned softly at the pain that was starting to soar in my body. "The medicine is almost completely out of your system. I would like to see if you can eat on your own and swallow fluids. But, first, can you open your mouth very wide for me?" He asked.Slowly, I nodded and opened my mouth, softly trying not to reopen the wounds. But Dr. Linn didn't seem to mind as he pulled my mouth completely open and shoved something over my tongue. Pain shot through my face as I tried to touch the wounds at the edge of my lips. Whatever was in my mouth was gone now, and Dr Linn wa
"I'm Alpha Raymond." The man said and offered his hand, and I looked at his hand and then back at him. He swallowed loudly and placed his hand down, "I wanted to personally apologize-" He started to say, but growled, "I want to." He stopped again as canines extended from his mouth. His body shook as a growl fell from his lips, "I'm sorry." He said after a moment. His hazel eyes turned light as he looked up to me, "I am so, so very sorry." His eyes glowed and were almost pure gold. His wolf, but before he could stare at me anymore, they started to dim back to his hazel eyes.Raymond waited for me to say something, but I only looked at him. After a moment, I reached out and touched his hand. I could feel my heart flutter, but nothing more as I gave it a small squeeze and released him. Raymond, however, looked as if he had just gotten the biggest prize. A smile fell on his lips and then fell off when he looked at me, "You didn't feel that?" He asked, I slowly shook my head and lifted my
Maliya POV When I woke up again, there was no tube in my mouth. The beeping was lower than before, but the pain was still there. I tried to control myself from wincing as I slowly opened my eyes.Everything was a haze as my eyes adjusted to the light. The first thing I saw was a tall box beside me, a green line moving up and down.Looking down, I could see something clipping my finger and tubes in my arm. Then, I looked around to see that I was in a pure white room. There was a thin blanket that rested over my legs and stomach. Even though it looked like two sheets were under it, I was freezing. I slowly lifted my head and winced, trying to control my breathing. After a moment, I sat up on the bed.My hands fell on my sides as I felt the heavy bandages over my skin. One on my hip, on my legs, on my arms, everywhere. Slowly, I leaned back and looked at the cube that was around my finger. After lifting the weight twice, I was bored with it. I leaned my head back and winced as I tried
Aeron's POVOnce my mate calmed down, I lowered my head and took in a few breaths. I placed a hand against the back of my neck as I stood up. So much rage has been inside of me ever since the doctor told me what she had endured. He had to use tweezers to pluck each silver strand he found. Using a heated blade, he also had to cut the dead skin that was left hanging on her back. The internal claw marks are what I was furious about. Doctor Linn knew better and allowed a woman to stitch up those wounds. "Alpha, if I may ask, who is this woman to you?" Dr. Linn asked once he disposed of the syringe, "If you don't know her mate, then there are no ties between you and this woman." He said. I watched him carefully as I looked at the woman. Slowly, I leaned back."I feel responsible for her," I said and turned towards my mate.Oh, how I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs that she was my mate, she was my everything. But I knew better than to declare her a Luna when she wasn't even awake.
