Victoria quickly recovered, smoothing her skirt as she sat stiffly on the edge of the bed. "My daughter," she said, her voice strained but firm, "is very private about her body. She needs privacy, even now."

Liam gave a short nod. "Do what she says. Check everything else."

The doctors continued, checking my vital signs, eyes, and reflexes. Finally, the lead doctor cleared his throat.

"She’s improving, Mr. Smith. The worst is over. With continued rest, in about a week, she can likely go back to her normal life. Everything is stable now."

A sharp sigh of relief filled the room. Everyone relaxed, except the Vaughns. The look they gave me, even with the doctor’s positive report, was way too cold.

“They definitely know,” I thought.
