Rex’s POV

“Rexford, you need to keep your promise.”

My mother’s voice cut through the dining hall like a blade. She didn’t raise her tone, but it carried the kind of weight that left no room for negotiation. I sat across from her, the polished mahogany table stretching between us like a chasm I could never cross.

“I handed over the CEO position to you in exchange for one thing. Marry Rachel. That was two years ago. You’ve graduated now, and this weekend, you’re getting engaged. That’s final.”

I clenched my jaw, my fingers tightening around the glass of water in front of me. My throat burned From the fury building inside me. My mother has always controlled my life and she thinks she can play around with who becomes my life partner.

“Alright, Mum,” I said finally, forcing my voice steady though it shook inside. “If that’s what will make you happy.”

She smiled, satisfied. “Good boy.”
