23.2 Wings of Heaven
Serra was to shocked and confused to move. Her eyes were still on the woods. Something struck on her heart, stirring up her thoughts.
Then Serra turned around and saw the aftermath of the battle. The ground was bloody and smelled of blood and guts. Dead bodies were scattered around like a debris: decapitated heads, arms, and legs. Entrails were pulled out like ropes and weapons littered around.
She flew and landed on Rila's body. Her wings vanished and her sword stopped burning. She dropped it cupped Rila's bloody face. She could feel no drop of life left on her sister. She's dead.
She cried and remembered what she said the night before.
No matter what happens tomorrow, know that I love you.

She bolt upright, her eyes still closed. She have dark circles under her eyes since she did not have enough sleep that night, her mind wandering somewhere. The wind now colder mixed with the misty scent of the river. Serra sat on dark corner of the guardhouse, her knees on her chest and she buried her face between them as she cried. The guardhouse is where they put someone who has committed crime in the village. The guardhouse was quite big, but not as big as the storage houses. There's nothing on the inside of the house, just the four corners of the room and on the floor were stem and scrapes of wheat that forms like a bed on the ground. The house was dark but there's a hole on the upper side of the wall where streaks of light pass through it, illuminating the room. The patrols bring her there after Mira left. Maria was preparing their dinner, sautéed potatoes and carrots - again. The sound of the oil as it sizzles in the hot pan sounds pleasing and soothing to Serra's ears. It was like music. The smell of carrots and potatoes dances in the air inside the cabin. Serra was used to that smell as she grows up eating it. Questions boiled up inside Serra's mind making her head felt like cracked in pain. Why did the Reapers run? Are they afraid of the light? Of Maria's power? It doesn't make sense since fire can only scare them. The Reapers will not just leave without killing everyone. But the greater question that really bothers her was her blood.
