Kaelia's POV

Both turned to look at me. Demi’s smile faltered a bit when she saw me, and her eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

“Kaelia,” He looked relieved to see me, “You okay?”

I stepped closer to him and rested my hand in the exact spot where Demi's hand had been.

Freddy rubbed my hand.

“I'm fine,” my gaze shifted to Demi, “I just thought I should join my husband for a bit.”

I cocked my head and asked in a sarcastic tone, “You don't mind, do you?”

We had a stare-down for seconds, then she smiled and raised her glass. “Of course not. We were just talking, catching up. You know, like old friends.

I nodded, “Mm. I've heard a whole lot about old friends lately. Fuck off.”

I felt Freddy tense beside me. Surprised, pretty boy?

Demi laughed, to mask her embarrassment, “Well, I’ll let you two have your moment. Freddy, we’ll talk later. And Lilyanna, take a chill pill. We've all had a taste of him.”

I wanted to pull her back by the hair, snap those spaghetti straps that held her dress in

KAELIA'S POV As I listened to him speak, a big black fly buzzed over my head. It hovered for a while, then settled squarely on my nose.My heart lurched, and my body turned rigid for a while as my brain tried to process the fact that an insect was sitting comfortably on my face.I started shaking - more like shivering - as I tried not to scream.“Freddy,” I hissed in a trembling voice, “ Get it off me now.”He moved closer to me and swatted the fly away gently.“Easy, Lily, it's gone.”The fly buzzed off, and my cheeks flushed with embarrassment.“Don't even make a sound,” I said when I saw his amused face.“Wouldn't dream of it,” He said, but his smile betrayed him.“Let's go. If something else lands on my face, best believe I'm peeling my skin off trying to get it out.”We stepped out from the shed, the cold night air hitting my face.My eyes narrowed against the wind. Freddy's hand hovered over mine, not quite touching it.I didn't know if I should slap it away or hold it.He tur

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 24

KAELIA'S POV From across the room, I watched Freddy and Demi's interaction as the fizz of my sparkling water stung my tongue. As I leaned on the makeshift bar, I thought about how perfect they looked together. They looked like a power couple.I could never.Demi's red dress stood out in a sea of muted colours. Freddy's smile was stiff as Demi laughed and touched his arm, sliding her hands up and down his biceps. But he didn't push her away. My grip on my glass tightened until my knuckles became white. I forced myself to look away and focus on something else. Why did it hurt so much? Why did seeing them like that make me feel pain in my chest?A couple Freddy had introduced me to earlier smiled at me as they passed by, and I smiled back.In this dress, Sundae has chosen, I knew I looked every bit like Mrs. Montgomery. But inside? I was unravelling. The whole thing with Demi and Sundae was affecting me more than it should have.“Enjoying the view?” A man's voice broke the train of m

Freddy's Pov Silence hung over us for moments after she said that name. I know it was only a matter of time before Sundae told Lilyanna about our past. She wore it like a shield, that girl.Lilyanna’s blue eyes were trained on me, waiting, expecting an answer.“She told you about it?” I asked, chewing on my food.“The real question is, why didn't you tell me?” She said “Lilyanna, answer me.”She looked away, staring at nothing in particular, “Well, she didn't exactly tell me. She left her phone out for me to see.”I rubbed my temples. Sounds exactly like something Sundae would do.“Lilyanna, what you saw on Sundae’s phone - it's not what you think.”Lilyanna stared back at me, waiting. I ran a hand through my hair, searching for the right words to say.“That photo… It’s old. Years old. Sundae and I - we had a brief thing, long before you. It was a mistake, the most toxic thing I’ve ever been in.” I paused as bitter memories flashed in my mind - Sunday trying to jump off a cruise bec

Freddy's Pov The late afternoon sun cast rays into my office at the Montgomery Grand, but the air was not light.I stood behind my desk, fist clenched, towering over my operations manager, Elisha Gunau, who looked like he would rather be anywhere else. “You forgot to double-check the financials for the European merger pitch?” I said in a low, dangerous voice. One thing I took seriously was excellence, and he had just disappointed me in that aspect.Elisha looked down, red-faced, a vein bulging in his neck.“Elisha,” I continued, “Do you have even the slightest idea what that cost us? The investors were breathing down my neck because your numbers were off by two percent! Two percent, Elisha! That’s enough to tank a deal this size!” I was fuming. On a very good day, I would have let this go with a strict warning and probably no salary for the month, but I was not in the mood to be merciful.Elisha stammered, twisting his hands together, “I'm so sorry, sir. It was an oversight. I…”“I

Kaelia's POV The smell of his perfume was a sharp contrast to whatever cheap stuff Landon was wearing. My blood roared in my ears at the realization of what was happening.Freddy was standing just behind me. He had not seen my face yet, because I was standing with my back to him, listening to the sound of his voice.“Good day, Landon.”“I didn't expect to see you here this evening. Is everything alright?”“Yes. I'm just checking on operations.”I didn't need to be told that it was strange the way I stood, my back to the CEO of my workplace - even Landon gave me a weird look - but I didn't care.I was not going to risk turning for anything.“Checking on operations. You know how it is.” He said. He sounded harsh and irritated, different from the Freddy I knew at home.“Anything I should know about?” Freddy asked.Landon's eyes darted to me briefly. “Just, uh, handling some guest issues. I should check on one in the east wing right now. Excuse me.”As Landon turned and walked away, I f
