The Next Day.

The Welcome Gala shimmered like a dream dipped in gold.

Crystal chandeliers scattered warm light across the ballroom, reflecting off silver trays carried by gliding waiters.

Soft orchestral music floated through the air, mingling with the low murmur of powerful voices– industry giants, venture capitalists, innovators from across the world.

Kiara stood near the tall glass windows, the lake’s evening lights mirrored behind her like scattered shards. Her gown, a sleek emerald silk, hugged her figure with quiet confidence. She felt the tiniest tremor in her fingertips, but her posture remained flawless.

She belonged here. Even if she still whispered it to herself to believe it.

A hand slightly tapped her shoulder.

“Ms. Storm?”

Kiara turned.

A woman in her fifties, elegant and warm-eyed, smiled at her.

“I’m Elara Morel,” the woman said. “Director of the Innovators’ Board. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you. Your submission was exceptional.”

Kiara’s breath hitche

The other ladies who were obviously eavesdropping, caught Cora’s words and they chipped in their comments. “Well, I hope that he divorces her soon. That bitch is a monster for killing her own baby!”“Have you heard? Rumor has it that she lied about the baby’s gender. Turned out it was a girl and not a boy.”“Oh my goodness! Really?”“I heard it from my Mom who’s good friends with Killian Reid’s mother. It’s true that Sophia lied about the baby’s gender. As you all know, the old master Reid prefers male heirs.”“That’s right. So to look for an opportunity to discard the baby without looking like the evil person she was, she framed Kiara for it. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.”“She’s very cunning indeed. Killian Reid made a mistake from the start. Everyone thinks that this is all punishment for his infidelity.”Cora sighed. “Keep it down, Girls. Don’t wake my babies up. Killian isn’t a bad person. I bet he was manipulated by that bitch!”“Right.” One of the ladies giggled.

“Mommy, I just wanna say goodbye to my friends.” The little girl pouted, her lips trembling. “I don’t wanna leave yet.”“Come here, baby.” Aubrey hugged her. “Mommy has no choice. We would have stayed but your Daddy wants us to leave, so what choice do we have?”“Kiara, I’m sorry about this.” She let out a half-hearted laugh. “Ara can be a handful sometimes. I also want to thank you for being kind to the kids. We’re leaving soon. This might be our final goodbye.”Kiara stood up, unable to hide her sadness. She was heartbroken for the little girl, and couldn’t deny that she was going to miss her.“Take care. Goodbye, Baby.” She patted the girl’s hair before joining Greg inside the car. As they drove away, she could hear her little voice, filled with sadness. “Mommy, I wanna go with her.”Greg rolled up the car’s windows despite the fresh morning air breezing in. He appeared moody again.Kiara didn’t break the silence. She didn’t know whether speaking might upset him further, althou

She wiggled her brows teasingly, reaching to tap his chin. But Greg didn’t even crack a smile. Instead, he brushed past her and moved her gently but firmly aside. “Kiara, not tonight.”His words were flat and clipped. So unlike him. Kiara blinked, stunned for a fleeting second. But she quickly masked it with a dramatic gasp. “Ouch. Wow. Rejected by my own husband.” She placed a hand over her heart. “Should I go file a complaint? Or maybe cry to the robot? It listens better than you lately.”No response. He grabbed a fresh shirt from the closet. Kiara followed him again, refusing to give up. “Greg, you’re really upset because they liked me, aren’t you? Come on, it’s cute. A little bit of husband jealousy never hurt anybody.”This time he didn’t push her gently. He stepped away sharply, creating distance. “I said not tonight.”Kiara’s smile faltered, just for a heartbeat. Then she forced it back, trying again. She didn’t want to believe that he wouldn’t melt. “Hey… I’m right here

Baffled by the girl’s suggestion, Kiara held herself back from expressing her shock.“Hehe, I was joking.” Ara looked away, the mischief in her eyes disappearing. “But I’d really love to call you Mommy.”Kiara returned to the bedroom. She didn’t have time to lose, and quickly washed up and got ready for work. She cooked a light fast breakfast then notified the housekeeper through the phone to come over. The girls insisted they’d stay and even promised not to break anything, and Kiara had no choice but to leave them in the house. The housekeeper was coming soon anyway. She arrived at work, but her mind would wander back to the Villa now and then, wondering if Aubrey had returned or if the girls hadn’t left yet. Aubrey didn’t come back. However, The next day, Kiara woke up to the same sounds coming from her living room. This time around, there were four kids in the house, all invited over by Aubrey’s daughter. “Good morning, Beautiful Miss. Meet my new friends Joy and Liam. They’

“Kiara, I heard that your company is venturing into the hydro-electric field recently. My husband is a supplier and although he’s new in this business, he does his job with integrity. I hope you can give him a chance for collaboration.”After the gathering ended, Kiara’s mind was still unsettled even as one of the ladies slipped her husband’s business card into her hand. She left the place, knowing she wasn’t supposed to think too much about the rumors. While driving out of the hotel though, her phone beeped with a text message. From Aaron Anderson. [My very good friend, Kiara Storm. Would you do the honor of attending my babies’ naming ceremony? Cora insists that you come. No need to turn me down. Greg has agreed that he’ll come with you.]Kiara scoffed, staring at the message and the arrogance in his tone. She didn’t respond but dropped her phone and continued driving. When she arrived home, the Villa’s lights were all turned on making her wonder if the housekeeper had come.

“How did you know the plot of the drama I’m currently starring in, Kiara?” Maya exclaimed.Kiara groaned inside and replied, “Check the message I’ll send you now.” She ended the call and forwarded the girl’s photo to Maya.“OMG!” Maya’s scream echoed through the speakers as she called back seconds later. “That girl! She looks just like me– No, she looks exactly like me when I was little!”“And she talks like you too.”“Really?” Maya exclaimed. “Where did you get her, Kiara? Tell me where!”“Not until you answer my question first.” Kiara chuckled, finding Maya’s reaction way weirder than she’d anticipated. “Did you give birth in secret? Wait, when you went for that shooting for over a year, what exactly happened? Was this the secret you were hiding?”“Of course not!” Maya gasped. “Come on, Kiara, if I had a baby like this, I would proudly show her to the world and wouldn’t care what my fans might think. But I’m curious about this baby. She looks so much like me. Do such resemblances e
