Eight: LISA

Kayden and I finally arrive at his house, his car pulling up in front of his mansion. He switches off the car's engine and we alight from the car.

In silence.

Throughout our drive until now, we have not said anything to each other. Not even a single word. I saw him giving me a few glances, but that was it.

I wonder what is happening, but I do not like the shift in energy between us. It is like some kind of heavy tension weighing down on my mind.

He opens the door of the house and we enter. We get to the sitting room and I watch him plop down on one of the long sofas. He bends his head, one of his hands rubbing over his forehead. I join him on the sofa.

"Hey," I call softly. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah. I am fine."

His voice is so low and gentle, but there is a relapse in it that has me feeling anxious instead of being settled with just his response. I want to push further, but before I open my mouth, my words get caught up in my throat when Kayden's head lifts and his green emerald eyes
